  1. Another story on a Finnish prospect ahead of the Olympics, this time Eeli Tolvanen of Jokerit:

    Quote

"So what went wrong for Tolvanen?

A closer look reveals the wingers’ point production in the KHL had actually started to slow down just ahead of the WJC, but it appears a sub-par performance in the tournament hasn’t exactly helped Tolvanen regain his confidence."

  2. Since this IS a pre-dominantly Finnish website (and forum) - I thought you guys might be interested in my latest EP story on Finnish Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Kasperi Kapanen:

    Quote

"I feel like I’ve proven that I belong in the NHL. My role right now isn’t that of a Auston Matthews or a William Nylander on that first line – but all I can do is play the hand I’ve been dealt, as well as I can.”

  4. Hi guys,

Hopefully you enjoyed my recent ECL 5 Elite Season Report. If you didn't, thats cool too. I've always approached the topics I've written about here at NHLGamer with a "what would I be interested in reading"-mindset. Usually that lines up pretty well with what y'all are interested in - we do share quite a particular interest in 'EASHL 6v6 gaming' - but sometimes it doesn't and that is just fine. Trying to please everyone is pretty much an impossible task, so in the end you just do your best and hope people enjoy your work.

I have been writing for NHLGamer for about 18 months (this was my first feature) which actually doesn't sound like a lot, but to me it feels like it has been quite some time. Now, if you feel like this is starting to sound like an eulogy - that is not my intent. I am not dying nor am I giving up writing for NHLGamer com.

What I will say is that you probably won't see any major stories or features like the Elite Season Report on NHLGamer from me for a while...

To most of you, a statement like that probably doesn't matter. Again, completely understandable. From the perspective of the average NHLGamer "consumer" - as long as the light stays on and new stories containing the proper information is released, all is good. It makes sense.

However, I'd like to think that some of you out there have come to enjoy my particular approach to writing. I know I have certainly appreciated all the feedback I have received from you all during these 18 months - both public and in PM, both positive and negative.

So, why am I opening up to tell you all of this?

Well, the reason I won't have as much time to dedicate towards writing about virtual hockey is that I am trying my hand at writing about actual hockey. About two months ago, I quit my regular 9 to 5-job to start my own business and try to make it as a hockey writer.

To be honest, making that leap scared the living shit out of me and every day since I made the decision has been a solid mixture of "what the hell am I doing" and "this might actually work". We'll have to wait and see which side of that particular coin ends up on top.

I got to be honest though, writing "for" you guys here at NHLGamer and listening to all of your feedback is what inspired me to believe I was capable of making this journey and I will always be thankful for that.

For that reason, I would really love it if I could have you join me on this thing I am attempting - to have you keep reading the stuff I am writing. Should you find the material interesting of course, that is!

In my current situation - every Twitter follow, re-tweet or direct click on a particular story is huge. Every uplifting word or constructive criticism on something I wrote, a valuable lesson! Anyway, enough talking, here's where you'll find me:

If you've made it all the way down this lengthy post, I'd like to thank you for taking the time out of your day to read it.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all NHLGamers - may 2018 be our greatest year yet!

    Take care,
    Hampus

  5. Falun Coal Miners is looking for an additional G for ECL 6. We will be playing in the Elite division for the first time and until then, we will need to make use of all the practice time, cunning and consistency we can to reach our goal of establishing ourselves as a contender for the next few seasons.

What FCM is looking for in a goaltender:
    - Ability to read the play at a high level
    - Ability to "shake off" bad goals and not go into rage mode
    - Ability to make the occasional breakaway save even when your skaters screw up in front of you
    - Ability to spread a positive attitude among your teammates, even when you are not playing

Why should you apply to join FCM? Let's look at some Pros and Cons
Pros: First-time Elite team, low expectations, potential underdog story, potential for fair amount of games, healthy goaltending battle (1A, 1B style),
Cons: Mostly Swedish dudes with questionable sense of humor, the peculiar defending of #77 (me), the weird fascination with everything related to actual Coal Mining

Should you join us, you will be joining a tight-knit 8-man roster (9 with you) consisting of 4 forwards, 3 defenders and 2 goaltenders where everyone gets consistent playing time. Above all, you will be expected to have a lot of fun with us. Fun is the name of the game for FCM, even when the game isn't that fun.

    Interested?
PM me or LastMandalorian here or on PSN (same usernames).

  6. ALL TRANSFERS BELOW THIS POST ARE TO BE CONSIDERED ECL 6 TRANSFERS

    From the original post:

NOTE: This is NOT the thread to post rumours (joke or actual), those you can post here ;) Any entries that isn't a confirmed transfer or a comment on a particular confirmed transfer will be deleted.

This IS however the thread for Team Captains or Assistant Captains (or members of the team for that matter) to post their new signings, from the end of ECL 5 to the start of ECL 6.

    Suggested format;
    [Team name]
    [Division]
    [Player name]
[Previous team, "FA" if no team]
[Expected role/position and/or statement on the player]
    [Team logo]

    End of original post.

Lets see some of them jaw-dropping transfers! Did I hear something about @Buantso, @DieCutterMC, @Norpee and @pajenc changing teams already?

  7. Great read - you've got a gift for storytelling! If I might be bold enough to offer some advice, try and be as patient as you can. It'll take time to get to the level of play it sounds like you want to be on, there is no way around that. Trust that your teammates want to win and improve just as much as you do and one day you'll find yourself in the very place you are aiming for.

Thanks for the kind words as well. Excited to keep following the journey of this "GM trying to make it"! :)

Ever since EA added the player classes I have stayed away from the Power Forward like it's the plague. So clunky skating wise. Though, when you have to deal with the fat man-lag on most evenings you tend to shy away from the bigger player classes. No need to feel heavier than what you already do.

Can relate. First game ever with player classes I accidentally picked Defensive D. Not sure I have recovered properly since.

I guess the power forward thing still applies in most players' opinion? That's still the most popular choice of build by far.

(Apologies if resurrecting such old threads is frowned upon here. I didn't want to start a new thread.)

While I agree, I feel like we are starting to see a bit more variation. A few jumbo playmakers, hitting snipers and grinders out there. Nothing resembling pure playmakers, danglers or snipers though, haha.

As you are getting ready to watch the ECL 5 Elite finals live tonight on NHLGamerTwitch at 22 CET, featuring terrific commentary from @OxtreeLAT and @janbonator, you might find yourself wondering - what will I do until then? Well, wonder no more as the Falun Coal Miners are set to continue their unlikely underdog journey in the Pro playoffs versus the regular season-juggernaught Unlucky Boys HC.

Catch games 1-3 of the series Live tonight 20.30 CET @ Twitch.tv/CoalMinersTV.

Who knows? We might even surpass our previous records of 47 viewers at one time! Our mothers always told us to aim high so we've decided that we are also gunning to surpass 60 Twitch followers before the end of ECL 5. Our current total sits at 51 so it might seem like an impossible task but we shall trust in the Force and see what happens.

    Tonights lineup:

    #54 @PatzyDrake - #17 @LastMandalorian - #90 @iscojr94

    #77 @The_Alpha_Furyan - #15 @minokin

Hi, LW looking for a team to play with for next ECL... have had some other stuff to do lately but im gonna start to play (or atleast try to) more regularly again.

    Oh boi... :o

This will turn out to be the biggest bidding war since LeBron James hosted that hour-long special called "The Decision" where he announced he would sign with Miami Heat in front of 10 million viewers

Here's a clear problem with the current system. Look at Group 5 in LITE.

Nordic Eagles finished #3 in the group – Seeded #16 to the playoff – They faced seed #17 in the first flayoff game.
RAKETTIPUTKET finished #4 in the group – Seeded #11 to the playoffs – They faced seed #22 in the first flayoff game.

    This is incorrect.

There is a game report (WO) missing in the system, resulting in RAKETTIPUTKET only having 17 GP in the standings. In reality, they got an additional 2 points and ended up as the #3 in the group and was then seeded #12 to the playoffs, facing sead #21. Nordic Eagles, finishing #4 in the group, was seeded as team #16 in the playoffs - that is correct.

  13. ECL 5 Pro Playoffs - FCM report

I'd like to start off by thanking all the viewers who tuned in to CoalMinersTV on Twitch for Games 1-3 on Sunday, helping us set a new record for number of simultaneous viewers (47) and pushing us past the 50-limit when it comes to subscribers (51). A big 'ol thank you to everyone out there :)

As you may have seen, things didn't quite turn out the way we had hoped in those three games. We lost all three games by scores of 2-3 (OT), 0-4 and 2-4 while not looking like the team that managed to fight their way through the first round. Nordic Stars were crushing us, and we knew it.

So, for games 4-7, me and assistant captain @LastMandalorian decided to get back to basics and eliminate all distractions. No witty gameday posts, no promotion of the games, no stream. Just two teams going head-to-head for a chance to make it to the final four in ECL 5 Pro.

To our complete shock and utter joy, it worked. For four games yesterday, this squad of Miners came as close as it ever had to playing perfect hockey. Now, I wont bore you with every little detail, but if you are curious - here is a short recap how it went down.

Game 4:  Things looked grim as captain @The_Alpha_Furyan took a penalty only 14 in-game seconds in (yeah, I know), but we battled back and managed to get up 2-0 in the first period. NS got a goal in the second but we held on for a 2-1 W. 1-3 series.

Game 5: Never did things look more hopeless than in Game 5. NS got up to a 2-0 lead and carried it into the second period. The comeback began in the 2nd period with a behind-the-back deflection goal from series MVP, center LastMandalorian. With 5 minutes left in the 3rd, LW @PatzyDrake timed a long pass perfectly in front of the net and 2-2 was a fact. In the Overtime, NS had a shot ring off the post before "Mando" carried the puck down the left wing and straight-up sniped it bar down. 3-2 OTW and 2-3 series.

Game 6:  Another 2-0 lead after the first period led us to victory in this one. RD @minokin was the first star here with 1+1. Another 2-1 W and series tied at 3.

Game 7:  Our best game of the playoffs. RW @pentsaa led the way with 1+2 and G @Onecorner95 pitched a shutout for a 4-0 W. 4-3 series win.

Thanks to every player on Nordic Stars for a tremendous series. I don't think I will ever forget this experience, lame as that sounds.

On to the next round where we will face Unlucky Boys HC :)

If you can delete this game it would be awesome. I first added the real 5-0 win and then tried to add 2-1 OT loss but i somehow fucked it up and added the 5-0 again.

If you just can delete that game so i can add the loss. Sorry and thanks!

Thanks for the report! Removed the duplicate that didnt have stats. Go ahead and add the rest of the games :)
