  1. Well, the experts were right - FCM did finish 15th, hah! 😂

ECL 7 was a really, really tough season for us. We didn't even come close to meeting the expectations we had set for ourselves. That said, as a team we take some pride in being able to finish the season - even when it looked like we wouldn't be able to. Thanks for having us, Elite.

Anyway. Not completely related to our Elite relegation but - let's be honest here - somewhat connected to it, we have a short message to present:

To quote the great Bilbo Baggins from Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring: "I regret to announce — this is The End". After 8 tournaments (ECL 1-7, OEHL 4) and over three years of jokes, mining and great (well... good) hockey - Falun Coal Miners is folding and will therefore not be participating in the upcoming ECL 8.

All players on the FCM roster are now to be considered Free Agents. Snatch them up quickly if you can - those who will continue playing, that is - because they are terrific people with good hockey minds. I can personally vouch for that.

Who knows, perhaps FCM will even be back some day. You never know.  Until then, thanks to everyone who has suited up for the Red, White 'n Coal!

Good luck to all the teams and players out there and a special "keep it going for ECL 8" to TIKI TALK, Gotham Knights (Refuse To Lose), Silver Sword Griffins, Northern Stars, Sjukstugan, Synergy Hockey, SIKA, Dynasty, Northern Ascendancy - who are now set to become the last nine teams to play in all ECL tournaments.

    We dug coal together ⛏️

    Thanks @Kenu!

Glad you guys can check it out, took many long hours to compile - haha. I would like to add that the individual stat RECORD BOOK hasn't been updated for some time so there might be inaccuracies there. Which is to say; perhaps a few of the records were broken since I made it.

The "historical" lists for both teams and individuals should be 100% though. Would also like to give shoutouts to @MartindalexC and (I believe) @Panarinz who worked on and added stuff to this.

If anyone wants to pick up the torch and keep updating it, go ahead! @Juizki perhaps? :)

  3. ECL 7 Elite - a.k.a "the season where nobody believes in us… again"

So, a lot has happened for the Coal Miners lately. That's why I'm going to tell you an incredible story, kids. The story of how I met your m... iner. Jokes. Fun. Laughter.

Anyway, stuff HAS happened over at Coal Miner Central so to get any (hello?) and all readers up to speed, here's a quick rundown:

    Anyway.

Once again us Miners are deemed a hopeless case - not prepared for what is to come in ECL 7. In response to that I'd like to quote my personal Lord and Saviour; Richard B. Riddick on two occasions.

First: "Don't know how many times I've been crossed off the list and left for dead, so this, this ain't nothing new. So yet again, we play for blood".

I'll get to the second quote soon.

But if you thought putting us at the bottom of the rankings was going to make us lay down and die, well… I hope we won't. That would be awkward. (Haha.)
No, it won't. But you know what it will do? It'll put us right back in the position of being the plucky underdog, which is where we prefer to be anyway. We're used to working underground for eight hours a day so striking from below suits us just fine.

    The second quote?

    See for yourself...

OH AND WAIT, I almost forgot… here is our lineup for this season:

Falun Coal Miners looking for versatile forward ahead of ECL 7 [Elite]

With the recent departure of "minokin-", FCM is now on the lookout for a high-level, versatile forward to join us ahead of ECL 7 Elite in October. If you can play all three forward positions, that's a huge plus. Regardless if you've played in Lite, Pro or Elite previously, send us a message and let us know why you should be the next player to join our roster! Nationality doesn't matter but a basic knowledge of English or Swedish is required.

Please include myself and @LastMandalorian in your message ⛏️

🎮 FCM ANNOUNCEMENT: Sunday Night Stream 🎮

At Coal Miner Central - yes, that is what we call our headquarters - we enjoy consistency. We value keeping a roster together for an extended period of time, we enjoy knowing exactly when the shows and movies we like are released and we like it when there is a set schedule for when to tune in to our favorite streamers. As we were discussing the matter, a realization dawned on us… perhaps other people enjoy consistency too?

    Yes we know. Clever, huh?

Anyway, in the name of consistency we are introducing "Sunday Night Stream", live every week on our Twitch channel CoalMinersTV. With this new weekly feature, you won't have to feel bad if you miss out on an ECL Elite game on Monday or some Pro Clubs action on Tuesday, because you'll know: "Oh well, I'll at least catch some FCM action on the Sunday Night Stream".

Sunday Night Stream will always go live at 20.00 CEST on Sundays and feature gameplay from NHL 18/19, FIFA 18/19 or whatever other games we decide to play. Sometimes there'll be competitive games (ECL, for example) broadcasted as well but usually, this weekly feature will be a relaxed-type stream where we can hang out and talk hockey, football, gaming and coal mining.

Oh and, there'll be a professional streaming webcam present - so you'll be able to see and interact with whoever is streaming on CoalMinersTV.

The premiere is THIS SUNDAY (July 22nd) at 20.00 CEST and the destination is, as always, https://twitch.tv/CoalMinersTV

    See you there!

How many players do you play with?

Nice! 112 vs. FCM - classic battle.

We try and play with 6+ players, 'ANY' active to minimize bot influence and goalkeeper optional to control or not 😊

  8. INTRODUCING... FC MINERS

So, we happened to start a FIFA Pro Clubs team as well. We're not very good yet - hey, YOU try kicking a ball around a pitch black coal mine! - but we are determined to get better. Like, really determined. "Neymar diving his way to a penalty"-determined.

    Anyway...

...that's why we've decided to issue a public challenge to any and all e-sports teams out there in the community to face us in a Best of-7 series, broadcasted on CoalMinersTV. What do you say gamers - is it time to show those pesky, annoying Mineboys how soccer (*football) is played?

Check the FB post for more details ⛏️🎮

  9. Good topic @jtorro1233. Throwing cheap shots and making thinly veiled threats is not the best way to get your point across, but discussion is never a bad thing.

More info should be coming but here is a little nugget of information NHLGamer actually posted on March 15 that I am not sure everyone saw. It was in the News story "NHLGamer, esports & You":

    Quote

"One discussed topic around the community lately has been the concept of buy-in tournaments, where the teams pay a certain amount to enter a tournament in hopes to get their hands on a bigger prize pool. We will be talking a lot more about this in the near future, but for the time being, let us at least confirm to you today, that this concept is definitely on our road map and you will be able to participate in these kinds of tournaments right here at NHLGamer. "

  10. Just like last year, I created a bracket challenge on the NHL.com website called "NHLGamer Bracket", this time with the password "nhlgamer2018". Creative, I know. This link should work to take you there: https://bracketchallenge.nhl.com/leagues/nhlgamer-bracket

Google "NHL Bracket Challenge" if the link doesn't work or if you can't find the bracket section on the regular NHL website. Join the NHLGamer league and invite everyone you know on these forums to see if you can beat me (most likely) & the rest of the NHLGamer community when it comes to predicting the Stanley Cup winner ;)

Make sure to name your bracket using your Playstation Network gamertag so we know who we are up against! I've already entered my bracket so naturally you'll find me under The_Alpha_Furyan.

    Cheers!

  11. ECL 6 Elite - END OF THE SEASON

    *****

After maintaining a somewhat consistent level during our final two weeks of the season - going 3-1-4 for a total of 10 points in 8 games versus Gotham Knights, Dynasty, Sjukstugan and Carlsberg HC - Falun Coal Miners managed to secure our contract in Elite by finishing 12th overall. FCM's total record ended up being 12-14-4 for 28 points, with a vast majority of those points coming in the second half once the team managed to get up to speed with the level of competition.

Next season you can be sure we will practice harder, come out strong right out of the gate and in the end be right in the thick of it when the playoff spots are decided. This journey of ours... has just begun

To celebrate our ultimate survival, we decided to throw a giveaway/lottery at our Facebook page! The rules were simple, once we got to 160 Likes we would give away a fine-looking FCM t-shirt. Now, we've already hit 160 Likes (yay!) but the t-shirt draw wont be until later tonight, so if you want in - click your way onto this post of ours, follow the instructions and be among the contenders to win the draw:

  12. ECL 6 Elite - Season report

    ***

    ⛏️ Week 1 (1-3-0 vs. NOR, NOS):
After winning our first game versus Northern Ascendancy 2-1 in OT, we were riding high. "Is this what the season is going to be like?", we thought. Spurred on by positive comments around the community, we suddenly realized we had a shot at making a statement as a newcomer to Elite. "We're just as good as these guys right, why wouldn't we be?", we started to believe. Then, after splitting the games with NOR, we came across NOS and got shellacked 8-1 and 2-1. Tough second matchup for sure, and not one we're particularly proud of. Still, the first week left us cautiously optimistic we could steal a few points here and there and maybe fly under the radar.

    ⛏️ Week 2 (0-6-0 vs. SJK, SKY & RB):
"Is this what the season is going to be like?", we thought once more - this time with our cheeks red of embarrasment and our eyes locked in empty stares. FCM got "lit the fuck up", as the cool kids say, in the second week of our Elite rookie season. I mean, we're not talking games that were close either. At least, not that close. Losses by 1-3 and 1-6 to SJK were followed by similar scores (1-3, 0-4) against Written. We simply could not score, nor could we keep the puck out of our own net. After starting the season 1-7-0, our final games of the week versus Rusty Blades were seen as a potential turning point for the season. "We've beaten these guys before - lets get to work on another hollywood comeback story!", we told each other. The results? 0 points through 0-1 and 2-3 losses.

    ⛏️ Week 3 (3-3-0 vs. PTH, SSG & NS):
Panic started to creep in. The way things were going, our 1-9-0 start had all but ensured that we would have no shot at the playoffs, but now another fear started to manifest itself: What if we didn't win another game this season? Screw being relegated, what if we end up with the worst record in Elite history? Would we prove that a team built slowly through player development and friendship just wasnt cut out for Elite or would we do something about it?

Drastic measures were needed and drastic measures were taken. RW iscojr94 was shifted to RD, LastMandalorian from C to RW, PatzyDrake from LW to C and defender Meeertz put at LW with specific orders to crash the net and make us hard to play against. Against Pata Hellalla, we finally tasted the sweet nectar of victory again as we gained 4 out of a possible 4 points. It felt like a new dawn was emerging and that our drastic measures had worked. Then came SSG where we barely escaped with a total 2 points (1-0, 0-3) after scoring just 1 goal throughout the matchup. Then, against Nordic Stars, another incredibly humbling defeat. Nordic Stars dismantled us completely by scores of 5-1 and 3-1 and all the optimism gained after the Pata wins were slowly evaporating.

    ⛏️ Week 4 (5-1-0 vs. Evo, CAT & UB):
The captains gathered for another meeting. "Did we right the ship last week or are further adjustments needed?", was the hotly debated topic. "We did finally manage some wins and changing things up again could mean a loss of security and comfort."

Ultimately, it was decided further changes were required if we were to have a chance at surviving relegation and salvaging what was left of the season. PatzyDrake stayed at C but LastMandalorian was shifted a second time - this time to RD. Meanwhile Berger-88, a complete rookie to ECL competition but with some previous 6v6 experience, was thrown into the lineup with little preparation. In the first few EASHL games with the new constellation, things appeared to be clicking. Still, it wasn't until we surprised ourselves by defeating reigning Pro champions Evolution through scores of 3-0 and 4-0 in the ECL, that we started to realize we might have something good on our hands. We then proceeded to battle our way past Katti with identical 2-1 wins. Finally, we managed to snag one more win against Unlucky Boys in our final matchup of the week.

That was yesterday and here we are now, stuck in the no-mans land purgatory that is spots 9-12 in the standings. Are we happy with where we are? All things considered, yeah I would say we are. With such an up-and-down season, it is safe to say we will never know the answer to the question "Is this what the season is going to be like?" because in Elite there simply isn't a way to predict what any new day or matchup will bring. All we know is that we have four opponents remaining and with our backs to the wall, we are going to make life as difficult as we possibly can for those guys.

  14. ECL 6 Elite

So... we ended up surpassing 60 followers on Twitch. Yay! We also lost in the Pro playoffs semifinals to Unlucky Boys by a series score of 2-4. Boo. But we got promoted to Elite anyway. Yay! Now we have to try and survive a full season against the best teams in all of Europe. Shit.

Anyway, we're back. FCM that is. Falun Coal Miners that is. We are returning to the ECL for a sixth straight tournament! By our count, with Aapon Taikasauva folding, that makes us one of just 11 teams to have competed in all six ECL tournaments - joining TIKI TALK, Gotham Knights (Refuse To Lose), Silver Sword Griffins, Northern Stars, Sjukstugan, Kattiautomaatti, Synergy Hockey, SIKA, Dynasty, Northern Ascendancy.

That is cool! It also suggests we are huge nerds. Which is also cool in a nerdy way.

Anyway, here is our roster for ECL 6 (Spoiler alert: we barely made any changes):

    ------------------------------------------
    G onecorner95
    G IFKPEKING2k15

    LD The_Alpha_Furyan
    RD minokin-
    RD/W Meeertz

    LW PatzyDrake
    C LastMandalorian
    C/W pentsaa
    RW iscojr94
    Berger-I88I
    ------------------------------------------

Finally, we again have a few "unlikely to reach"-social media goals for this season - namely reaching 150 Likes on Facebook (we currently sit at 129) and 100 subscribers on Twitch (chillin' at 73 currently). If you want to help keep the dream alive for a group of delusional guys with virtual ice hockey dreams, you know what to do.

    Much love, gents.
