  1. I can't remember exactly the context for the original making of the server; so I won't comment on why there was never a thread posted about it but that certainly seems odd. I understand that, but you don't seem to appreciate the differences between these 'communities'. The reason the forums don't look "very active" is because people generally don't care about it. First of all there isn't much to discuss really, any important shit is posted by one of the admin team and is posted to an entirely different section of the site, so what are we left with at that point? Free agent posts? Well there's already a thread for that. What about free players for the day? Again, that is already in place on a companion group on PS4, something that has devolved into a bunch of "free"s which is hilarious to look at personally. Plus you have to factor in the fact that Kenu has made it abundantly clear that he wants english to be default language of choice on the site (more often than not, other languages can be used ofc), something that in all honesty probably actively stifles people's enthusiasm to post threads. Feel free for people to criticise me on this as it's just me hypothesising why certain things are as they are. Additionally for things like voice channels and such, I won't argue that there is a place for it but I think you don't appreciate how many people prefer to use psn chat (atleast from my experience) so while there is kind of a niche use for them, I would imagine the vast majority of players here would rather use psn chat than a pc / mobile based VOIP. I think your comment about "hop in or stay scattered" is off the mark a little, if you want to see true activity look at the NHL gamer psn community, it looks like a feeding frenzy late in the day Overall though, I'm more than willing to try and get discord up and running for this community, but I think you need to be aware that it will never get anywhere near full participation from people in the community (although I'd love to be proved wrong). Also the comment about scheduling, it's easy as piss right now, you just click on the team you're against, and their captain will be in full view, click on the link and you're in the PM screen with their details already filled in. Edit: Fixed it so that new members can now post in the discord channel, dunno why it was set so they weren't able to.
  2. In that case then I may as well post the old one, wasn't sure if the admins were cool with a non-expiring link being publicly available, anyways here it is: https://discord.gg/ZUMrB3s [Updated] Most of the teams that have played in elite/pro/lite are already available as roles for members to quickly spot who is a part of which team (think Gzell did the tedious work for it originally, although my memory could fail me on that). The points you raise @Depch were the ones I originally brought up however I don't think you have considered the fact that not everyone actually uses this site (aside from coming on to make their player card and such), as well as the fact that it's probably not in our best interest to fragment where people come and go as this can ruin the 'sense of community' I suppose. Therefore I don't think people will use discord as a straight replacement (something it seems you are trying to achieve by copying across some forum sub-divisions).
  3. We originally did set up a discord but it fell out of favour just from lack of activity and it not really being that useful if I remember correctly, it's still up but I'm not sure what the staff want to do with it (if anything). General chat usually happens in the chatbox though. As for actual important information the staff put up forum posts and blog posts.
  4. He is welcome to join us if he so desires

  6. Northern Ascendancy [Previously Unknown] (Elite Division): Swedish team looking for players that can play defence and the wing, message me here for additional information.

  8. Possibly a bug that could be affecting more players, but it seems as though my points totals are not being calculated properly when being placed into the skaters stats table. I'm missing 4 points out of 40, and it seems that these 4 points are being omitted in the sum calculation from one particular game. (http://nhlgamer.com/match.php?matchID=3651)
  9. Well the unbelievable happened, the game actually started up in windowed borderless mode instantly... the future is here boys
  10. Probably people in pro or lite I'd imagine
  11. Northern Ascendancy is looking players in the following postions: RW / C / LD / RD / G... basically everything. The team is currently in the Elite division. We have players in the LW, C and RD spots, but the more players the better ofc, especially in regards to rotations and shiz. Language: Anything, I don't care, just be aware english will probably be used for general communication. Out of the current players though Swedish is the most prevalent. It should be noted however that if enough interest is not gathered, the team will become inactive for the upcoming season. Aside from that though, if you want to contact the team please feel free to PM here or message me on PSN (the username there is the same as it is here).
  12. Idk if everyone thought Torts would fail, his time in Vancouver was admittedly bad but that team really wasn't 'made' for him, I still don't know what drugs Vancouver was doing when they hired him Still though, even when he was early into his stint with Columbus he actually put in effort changing his style in an attempt to make it 'modernised', plus it helps that Columbus' roster is more in line with how he actually approaches the game. Also, I'm totally okay with you jinxing it so that Chicago can win again
  13. Alright, my bi-monthly bitching is here. So, the goal any of interface should be ease of user interaction, in other words the input sheet should be concise, no unnecessary extras, and should be as quick to fill in as possible. With that in mind, let's have a look at the current stats input page: I don't think there's many problems with this, in a perfect world I'd say there's no need to put in the opponent's stats as well as yours as it just slows down the whole process, alas I understand why it could be deemed somewhat necessary due to some teams having manipulated stats in the past to put themselves in a more favourable light. That said however I would argue why punish the clean teams by forcing them to input both sets of stats? Furthermore I would argue one stat that probably should be here is passing percentage. Okay, time for my pet peeve. Why on earth are usernames not available here? Seems like something that wouldn't exactly be too hard to put in as it's literally just pulling a name from the same sheet where the player names are coming from, aka: here. Anecdotally speaking I know at least a couple team captains who don't even know what names their teammates use in game, due to them changing it from time to time. Why not make it simpler and just show all the information possible? It would stop people accidentally putting in the wrong players. That final point leads me on to another criticism of the star selection, why do we both (aka: both teams) have to put every player / star selection in? Wouldn't it be easier to have each team fill in the stars, based on where their team came? (Ie: If team A had 3 star selection, team B could just leave all the stars blank on their stat sheet. / If team A had stars at 1 and 3, then they would put the respective players in the 1 and 3 slot, whilst leaving the second slot for team B.) This hopefully would cut accidental fuck ups to basically nil, and then in turn we wouldn't have people complaining about people not updating their player name (The mere fact that this is a complaint is beyond absurd to me). Now for the next page of stats. (Side note: Sorry to HC Solhem, this isn't me rubbing it in, it was just the only game where I supposedly had this still open ) Again, in the drop down box there should be usernames, then player names IMO. Furthermore, I should make mention of the fact that if a player leaves a team during the season, a weird hyphen appears. I'm nitpicking here so bare with me, but I feel as though the stat sheet should be as streamlined as possible so any nitpicking should be welcomed at this point. WOG, DP, PS, EN and SC. Penalty shot I feel should be placed with the drop box, along with the other means of scoring already placed there (eg: Even strength, PPG and SHG). The other side boxes however just seem redundant to me, we can't see them in the standings so we can only see who scored a DP goal in the post match report? That seems immensely flawed. I understand you want as much information to be recorded as possible but some things are just not worth going into the demo and looking through every goal, just to check if one of them was a DP goal. Furthermore, what's up with the net chart? In what way could that ever be generated? Additionally, I'd wager quite a few teams haven't even paid attention to the side columns enough to even realise they were there. I'll hold my hand up and say I didn't even realise the drop down box made a distinction between even strength and 4v4 / 3v3. Am I particularly sad about this however? Not particularly due to the fact these stats are seemingly lost once you go away from the post match presser. My favourite part about the stats is this little bit, legit, what's the use? As far as I can see this falls under my previous point about the stats just falling into a pit once you progress away from the post match page. You can't find it anywhere on the stats page, both for teams or players, so my question is what's the point in making a distinction between the penalties if you're not going to track it fully? Especially when some penalties are straight up missing (Eg: Someone noted a few days ago that cross-checking isn't in the list). Basically, in conclusion I think the stats are somewhat fine but they are effectively wasting time for the individual inputting the stats as some of them are just straight up not being tracked. Furthermore, I feel as though some information that should be available during the stats stage, simply isn't there. TL:DR, the stats aren't broken and some may view me as just bitching about pointless shit, but for something that every captain has to do many times a season, any opportunity to save time and reduce the chances of unintentional fuck ups should be taken. As such: (+ Denotes add, - denotes remove) -Need to add stats for both teams, make it so you only have to add your own -Penalty drop down box and class all penalties as the same, not counting minute duration ofc -Need to add full star selection on both sides of the stat sheet, make it so only one team reports 'their' stars -Unnecessary types of goal condition, see penalty criticism for same reasoning +Passing percentage statistic in opening page +Usernames for players available at all times
  14. Damn, Bumer with the bold prediction that Muki win in 7, but Synergy win in 9 with the help of 2 WO wins
  15. Check out NOR's latest video, I feel it covers a lot that is discussed here
  16. Why? What's the point of withholding information if you're 'clean'? Surely it's better to allow people to come to their own conclusions with all the evidence possible? As opposed to being spoon fed a reaction and bandwagoning off of that?
  17. Ah okay, I feel the same way tbh
  18. Maybe I'm missing something but in this case why would it even matter? It's literally aimed at Swedish eashl teams?
  19. You're right in it being a long way, but the 'way' in this case may as well be the circumference of the earth, truly, it is that far fetched. No, the first step is the game actually being competitively geared. Just because you can setup up 'comp' leagues, doesn't mean it's somehow on it's way to being an esport. Why are people so hung up on this? Seriously, look at other esports and tell me with a straight face that nhl is in any way similar. When EA actually adds things that raise the skill ceiling, stuff like actually being able to consistently control your dude and not having the game decide to dictate where you can skate to. On top of that they should atleast attempt to punish rng based plays, then and only then can you begin to talk about esports. At the moment anyone that talks about this trash game becoming an esport just seems as though they're deluding themselves into thinking this game is something that it's not. Edit: 'Serious esport' would put it on par with CS, LoL and Dota since they're the main ones being discussed in the general public, right? You're telling me that nhl has a chance to compete on a stage that large? You cannot be serious.
  20. You make it sound as though the NOR players were just along for the ride, but what do I know? Yes, you are correct in there being amateur leagues irl, but irl however there is a gargantuan skill gap. If you set a team of nhlers against an amateur team they'd win 99/100 (barring some insanely crazy shit, think Gudlevskis vs Canada a few years ago). Can you say the same about nhl game teams? I'd say no. If you set a team that is placed in division 3 against one on division 1, sure the division 1 team would win more often than not, they certainly wouldn't go 99/100. I get you want an esport out of this game but it just simply isn't balanced for it. There's too many rng elements, too many scenarios where you can't control the outcome (eg: your guy decided to just miss shit randomly). You can't just set up arbitrary divisions, make a pay wall and call it a job. The game has to be ready for it, are you really gonna say with a straight face that this nhl is esport ready? Current esports (I'm gonna list the main ones): CSGO, LoL, DOTA and Overwatch I suppose although it suffers from blizzard trying to force it. A recurrent theme within all of them is that a.) the player base is insane b.) the skill gap between an actual pro and someone is huge c.) each and every game has limited rng elements (in csgo there are rng aspects but they're not large enough to confound together and allow one team to win because of them). Nhl doesn't have a.), I'll concede that player base doesn't necessarily mean it couldn't be an 'esport' but it's a correlating factor. B.), I stand by this, the skill gap in nhl really isn't that large , atleast if we're talking in comparison to actual esports. C.) This game has more rng than hearthstone...
  21. So we're not allowed to publicly question decisions? I'm curious as to what you think respect actually means. It doesn't mean blind obligation, it doesn't mean copious amounts of compliments need to be spewed out. It simple means that someone should be viewed as a person, not as an infallible figure head. Just because someone holds a 'position' higher than one's self, that doesn't mean they're inherently better equipped to deal with situations than someone further down the totem pole if it were. As such, any questioning should be welcomed. Of course at that point we're talking constructive questioning. The fact you are calling for a fucking better way to voice displeasure than a well thought out post makes me question what the fuck you're on about. What would be a better way? Internal questioning? Well in that case we'd end up at the same position, a public post detailing the same information, just now worded differently. The goal would remain the same, to spread this information to as many people as possible and to gauge a reaction. " What is your opinion and thoughts about it? " - Svamp " Don't forget to vote on the poll! " - Kenu " We are suggesting 3 game-days per week, unless the community is strongly against it. " - Kenu " This is up for discussion, it is only our suggestion. " - Kenu " The thing is though, that our opinions are not the absolute truth, so we want to hear what the community wants and how they respond to these ideas. " - Kenu Note: This isn't meant as a slight against Kenu in anyway so don't even try and take it that way, it's just an example that while Svamp may be a little pissed, at the end of the day what is exactly 'wrong' about how he handled it? I respect Kenu, he's trying to accomplish something (that I assume in his head is grand) and as such I would assume everyone here could agree that that warrants respect. Blind praise however? Hell no. If anyone here thinks that respect means you can't even question someone critically then you need to read a fucking dictionary. Personally I don't like the way Kenu goes about things but then again, that doesn't fucking matter, because at the end of the day on a person to person basis I respect him. We may have vastly differing opinions on certain things but I've always tried to be cordial, explain my thoughts as clearly as possible, as well as be as respectful as possible, that doesn't mean however I shouldn't be able to write pieces that effectively completely negative to his decisions. We're here to build a site yes? So stop blowing smoke up everyone's ass and actually work through issues instead of just playing hot potato. A competent CEO surround by yes men is likely to do worse than an incompetent CEO surrounded by people that can actually critically think about shit. Again, this is an example so don't try to make this out as though I'm describing the NHL gamer staff through some cryptic code. Oddly enough on a side note, if we're talking about being respectful, would calling the league commissioner a cunt be classed as respectful? Furthermore, if people want a reminder, this whole "division" system has been talked about for almost a year now and still it's 'a work in progress':
