Right now the Relegation/Promotion Battle is scheduled to be played the same week as Pro quarterfinals, and there's almost a 3 week break between the Pro regular season and RO16 ;)

So basically the Pro playoff dates are messed up, I'd guess Looks like all the divisions have that break so that's probably intentional, but anyways then the Elite relegation just has the wrong dates I guess

You're making a lot of sense, as usual, thanks @Mikka! The relegation games have always been very freely and successfully scheduled by the teams so we may have not paid enough attention to where those should be. :)

Just gonna say it here - thanks LA, for making a decision on the spring seasons ability bans now instead of right before the season starts.

The decision itself is a pretty interesting one, but some decision had to be made. Hopefully this is the compromise between banning everything vs nothing that most people can get behind 👍

Thanks, this was important for us to get done as early as possible after deep diving into the conversations here. Thank you to everyone who contributed!

For context, you can read the League Administration statement here:

  3. It's truly interesting to see how the experiences are very different across the board so far.

I don't personally feel strongly either way, aside from being heavily disappointed by @Meazza1704 stopping a couple of empty netters I thought I was getting when playing without X-Factors in the GCL. 🤣

With the ECL and its qualifiers coming up very soon (ECL regular-season start of April, Qualifiers a couple of weeks before - more details to be released very soon), we will have to make a decision on this matter within a couple of weeks. If people want to or don't want to ban them all - please write your thoughts in this thread. The more constructive and well-reasoned you write, the easier it is to discuss. Would love for those who are playing in the FCL, GCL, SCL, and WECL (or outside of these National leagues) to give this "ban them all" approach a real chance for the next few days and make your conclusions based on experience from playing for a few days and see how it feels.

Based on the recent messages it appears people seem to be pretty split on banning everything and banning just one or two things. I think it's a good idea to discuss what a happy medium could be that the majority would be happy with - or is there such a compromise available?

and let's not forget that in every team there's a boosted player in every match. Yesterday I had an ability that allowed me to shoot very accurately and very powerfully when I was pushed at the moment of a shot. I scored 4 goals like that. So tell me what we're doing? We take the goals away from the guys?

    Thanks for the feedback!

I believe the Grudge Match can now actually be disabled in Private Games, so that shouldn't be an issue anymore.

You know what would be fun ? Arrange a poll before every season in every division to decide how to play the season. That way all the teams can vote what to ban in that division for the season.

If neo division wants to play with nothing banned but lite wants trucu and tipper banned , it doesnt affect other ddivisions way to play 🤷

While I completely understand this suggestion and have thought about it myself, I do think it creates some issues where moving between divisions could be problematic for teams and players. Of course, moving up to a higher level might make you need to study your game and make changes, but if the rules of the games are too different, maybe your playing style from a lower division doesn't apply at all, because you lose or gain some aspects of the game that weren't there before your promotion. This especially applies to the promotion/relegation battle between Pro and Elite.

For this reason, it is much easier to apply the same principles as widely as possible between divisions. That being said, if this was an approach that a clear majority agrees to and wants, of course, it can be discussed. I just don't think it's the right approach for the above-mentioned reasons.

  6. I had a chat with the gameplay producer at EA and they gave me the following facts about truculence tuning for NHL 25:

    • Gold Truculence provides a 25% boost to stamina drain on a shoulder check hit  (NHL 24 it was 30%)
    • Silver Truculence provides a 0% boost.  (NHL 24 it was 20%)
    • Truculence also increases the power of a Shoulder Check, which would naturally drain a bit more stamina than a non-truculent Shoulder Check.
    • The X-Factor should only trigger on Shoulder Checks (not push checks).

    Yep, this is true.

I despice gimmicky grudge matches and other useless features as it's pandering to Fortnite-generation and going further away from true simulation which should always be the direction in a hockey game.

Luckily it seems EA will be fixing the issue with the forced Grudge Matches. I think it's a cool concept, but the way it works currently it hurts the balance of the game and has nothing to do with a true grudge match.

    Did you forget truculence??!!

There hasn't really been a comprehensive conversation around that where we've seen a strong consensus where the majority feels like banning truculence is the right call. At least to me it seems like there's people on both sides of the fence on that. I don't say that to mitigate anyone's opinion or to insinuate that you'd be wrong, but if you read the conversation in this thread, you can see that Big Tipper was clearly the one thing everyone seems to agree on.

I know there have been unofficial votes organized where several abilities were bundled together, including big tipper, but while our goal is not to slowly ban everything one by one, it is important to discuss the problems we have with each ability on an individual basis in order to avoid the type of bias where you buy one ban and get two for free. I believe we ourselves did something of a bundle decision last season with stronger support for 2/3 of the banned abilities and were rightfully criticized at the time for jumping to conclusions on the 3rd one.

TL;DR: Keep talking about truculence if you feel strongly about it, and explain what makes you dislike it (if you haven't already).

  9. After further deliberation and seeing the unanimous motion for the ban of the Big Tipper ability, the League Administration has decided to ban Big Tipper (both Gold and Silver) from the ECL ’25: Winter season. The change will take effect in the Warmup Season from Sunday, October 27th and will also apply to the ECL Qualifiers.

It’s been great to see how the discussion around different abilities has really taken off. We’re getting a lot of different perspectives, many of them well-reasoned. We’ve also seen some interesting concepts for limiting how different builds and abilities can be used on a team basis, with the goal of changing the approach to classes and abilities, and potentially making broadcasts more engaging. I’d love to hear more thoughts on this idea and how people feel about it. My biggest concern is that, while many experienced players think it’s a brilliant concept, it might raise the barrier to entry for new teams and players who are already trying to grasp the rules and restrictions. And while one might suggest to only implement it at a higher level, this would probably create issues when teams move to a higher level and are not used to these restrictions.

    Let’s keep the conversation going!

    Hey,

Last year i was talking months that we need to ban things and nothing wasnt done...

And everyone was this year already thinking that we ban those because of course those are broken every year....

And if people is quiet they are happy the way things are(trucu x tipper banned)

Thanks for your perspective. People must have missed the original communication (12) which stated the starting point is that there are no bans (quote below).

    Quote

Zone & Superstar Abilities - Yay or nay?
For the ECL ‘24: Spring season we decided to ban a selection of Zone & Superstar Abilities. As NHL 25 is a new release, and we haven't had a chance to test it out yet, our initial instinct is to start with a clean slate and not ban any abilities until the community gets to know the new game and has a chance to make up its mind about whether the abilities are working or not. While we have preliminarily set our minds on not banning any abilities for the first season, we welcome the discussion and would love to hear your opinion. You can discuss player abilities here.

Either way, we urge people and teams of any and every opinion to share their thoughts and discuss their opinions. Don't assume that one or two people sharing your opinion (whatever it may be) is enough to make a mark.

Also, I want to emphasize that we are not only having this discussion for our community and ECL season, but any details and videos you can provide regarding why you think trait X is broken, we can share those with the gameplay team at EA and hopefully make a difference and see improvements in the game. This is one of the reasons I keep emphasizing the importance of the constructiveness of the conversation, aside from making yourselves understood in the right context.

  11. For those criticizing the decision, this conversation has been available for over a month and five people have weighed in on the bans. Perhaps the question didn’t reach a big enough portion of the players, but it was communicated from the start that the starting point is that there will be no bans and that this thread on the forums is the right place to argument for what and why it should be banned.

A poll is a good idea on paper, but we want to make sure we are making decisions based on constructive conversations and analysis rather than an opinion might just be echoed by people who haven’t even tried the traits they are voting against.

I’m glad this conversation has now got some more activity, so please keep the discussion active and constructive!

We actually had a Grudge Match happen tonight even with both teams having the setting turned off :x

Is it possible to get a recording of this, or was someone streaming? If possible to get a recording from both sides, showing the search settings and that the Grudge Match still triggers, that would be very helpful to send over to the dev team.

We are rapidly getting to that point now.  About two weeks until qualifiers and four weeks until ECL. Is there an update? @Kenu

As I understand it, the preseason tournament will have no bans. On the one hand, I understand this decision, but it does make me wonder: will the preseason tournament be used as a testing ground, with a decision on bans/no bans to be made once that tournament is over? If so, it is my understanding that tournament is over on November 11th, less than a week before the season is set to start and AFTER the qualifiers begin.

That's... quite a tight deadline. And exactly what I, and those who agreed with my post, requested to not have happen. With the various qualifiers set to begin soon, we as a community really could use a definitive decision on bans/no bans before then.

TLDR, a direct question: Can we expect "No Bans" to be the decision for ECL '25 Winter?

    Thanks for flagging this @l-Furyan-l!

After deliberating, and weighing the pros and cons of instituting X-factor bans, the League Administration has decided to NOT ban any traits or abilities for the upcoming season. We appreciate the desire for some traits like Big Tipper to be axed, but we first want to see how the meta develops and what teams end up favoring.

As such, we will monitor your feedback and the Pre-season tournament, the first ECL season of the year, as well as any changes that EA makes by adjusting tuners and/or in patches. Last year especially they were making changes quite frequently - so we believe tying ourselves to a blanket ban would be a misstep at this point.

  14. 1) First of all, thanks @l-Furyan-l for raising this topic. Any and all confirmed feedback that we can provide EA with as soon as possible will be beneficial for troubleshooting any problems.

    2) Based on what I've read, the passworded private games have had some issues as well, so I urge as many teams as possible to try out some private games tonight to make sure it works as intended. We can of course test that with generic community passwords, but ideally please also agree with an opponent to play a private game and see if the system works correctly.

From what I heard, it may take up to a couple minutes to find a private game with the correct password, so be sure to give the search some time if it doesn't immediately work. Also make sure you both turn grudge match off, as different settings there could hinder you from finding games.

    3) Finally, on the subject of community passwords, perhaps we could use:

    • ECLElite - Elite + Pro teams that might be playing in (possible) the Elite qualifier
    • ECLPro - Pro + Teams looking to qualify for Pro
    • ECLLite - ECL Lite + Core Teams
    • ECLNeo - Beginner level teams

We could of course add one more for Core, but I feel like the level of Core can be pretty high, so I would urge Core teams to try and match up with Lite.

  15. Hey everyone,

As we gear up for the upcoming NHL 25 season, it's time to revisit the topic of player ability bans that we implemented for NHL 24. In the previous season, we took action based on community feedback and decided to ban several player abilities that were considered overpowered.

However, as we transition into NHL 25, we find ourselves in a different scenario. The game dynamics and balance have evolved, and we don't yet have a clear understanding of how these player abilities will impact gameplay. Given this uncertainty, our initial thought is to refrain from imposing any ability bans for the first season of NHL 25.

We believe it's crucial to gauge the new game's balance and understand how these abilities function in the current context before making any decisions. Therefore, the idea is that the upcoming season will serve as a testing ground. We'll closely monitor gameplay, gather feedback from all of you, and assess whether any Abilities are causing issues or significantly skewing the competitive landscape.

This forum thread is the perfect place to share your thoughts, observations, and experiences from the ECL '24: Winter and Spring, during which we played both with and without these banned traits. Did you notice any significant changes in gameplay? Did the absence of these abilities make the game more balanced and enjoyable for you? We value your input and encourage you to contribute to this discussion.

Ultimately, we want to make informed decisions that enhance the competitive experience while preserving the integrity of the game. So, let's have an open and constructive dialogue about our approach for the first season of NHL 25. Your feedback will play a vital role in shaping our league's future.

Of course, before we actually get to play the game, this is just pure speculation, but we want to get the discussion started early.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

I guess a loud minority really can make a difference. Inspiring.

Furthermore, where's the transparency from management on this matter? What was the process like before you arrived at this decision? Why is this being announced literally minutes before teams start playing their games (in some cases even after puck drop)?

This is absolute bush-league for a professional organization with paying customers and I think everyone, regardless of where they stand on this particular matter, expect better than this.

Thanks for writing this feedback @l-Furyan-l - we realize this was not handled to the standard we want to hold ourselves up to. We will be reaching out to Pro and Elite teams to confirm the opinion of each team.

  17. After receiving a lot of feedback on the negative impacts regarding the traits called Truculance, Big Tipper and Unstoppable Force, the League Administration has decided the following:

ECL '24: Spring -  ECL_8_Elite_logo_350x350.png Elite & ECL_8_Pro_logo_350x350.png Pro Bans the following traits (Gold and Silver):

    •  Truculance
    •  Big Tipper
    •  Unstoppable Force

    ECL '24: Spring -  ECL_8_Lite_logo_350x350.png Lite & ECL_Core_logo_350x350.png Core:

    • The first week will have no bans, however
      • A one-week poll has been opened to vote on whether or not to ban the three traits mentioned above or not. You can vote in this thread that you're reading.
      • If the community agrees, the ban of the traits will be active in week 2.

    ECL '24: Spring - ECL_Neo_logo_350x350.pngNeo:

    • There are no bans on traits.

This will be reflected in the rulebook and a news story later tonight.
