First game of the day going on atm. Career high packet loss, 4%.4 points
-
Yesterday was easily the best day for a long time. First game had like 3% packet loss and at some point it even started to feel unplayable first time during the problem. Couple really huge lag spikes. But after that, rest of the evening (maybe 5 games?) went without any problems. 0% packet loss and zero weird occasional micro-stutters. It's so weird idk what's going on. Had phone call with DNA yesterday. They doubt it the problem could be at their end, suggested to check with EAs side. But they at least know about it and will keep eyes and ears open and look into it. DNA also sent me messages later yesterday, both English and Finnish. I put them here: EA is also informed about the problem and they know it and they promised to look into it.4 points

This is an offshoot of my previous thread where I polled people about the problem with packet loss connecting to the Helsinki (Europe North East) servers on DNA, the Finnish ISP. Based on that poll, most players who are on DNA are indeed affected by the problem where their connection to the Finnish servers is weakened by packet loss hovering somewhere between 1 and 3 percent. I feel like the results warrant further steps, and the next obvious step is polling the community about their willingness to honor affected opponents' requests to play both games (home and away) on the Swedish server. This of course excludes the home games of Central European teams who have the right to play their home games on their nearest server. I feel confident that we have pinned the problem down to the North East servers and it does not appear on either the Europe North or Europe Central servers. I understand some teams may have an affected player and still feel like the lower ping tilts the team's preference in favor of playing on the Finnish servers. For this reason, I'm including it as an option in the poll so those teams can also make themselves heard. The packet loss problem is likely not getting fixed in the very near future, and speaking on behalf of everyone I contacted about the topic, we feel like reverting to the Swedish server would be the best workaround until the Finnish servers work smoothly for all players. Obviously, as someone affected by the problem myself, my perspective is perhaps narrow as to the pros and cons of this solution. I just don't see a better one for now unless the community as a whole demands that those affected tough it out and play at least a great number of their games on the Finnish server where they may always encounter the problem. Note that in the poll, "is/is not affected" means whether your team has at least one player in your regular roster who gets frequent packet loss on the Helsinki/North East servers. If you have a player who has the problem but doesn't feel like it affects their game at all, that would still count toward "is affected" in the poll.3 points

I don't think the problem is getting fixed by Monday. It might be a good idea to poll the community about whether the Finnish teams (who are not affected by this problem) are willing to compromise and play both games on the Swedish server despite the slightly higher ping. Maybe I'll start a poll about that today.2 points

I actually noticed the change 1-2 weeks ago. We were playing drafts and I got randomly kicked out from dressing room and EA servers. Ever since I've had those random micro stutters and some times also 2 % packet loss. 1st I thought it was linked to EA servers but as I also have DNA, ISP might be the problem here. For me it has been playable though but I feel a bit handicapped specially if this happens during golden one tee.2 points

Greetings, denizens of SportsGamer! For NHL 24, EA gave us Finnish players a nice little gift in the form of a shiny new server located right here in my hometown of Helsinki. This is the Europe North East server in the private search settings. I was pretty happy about this because it means my connection is practically the same as playing offline. However, there's been trouble in paradise for about two weeks or so as of writing this message. Namely, I have packet loss in some games on said server. It seems to be random, or at least I haven't been able to identify any sort of pattern to it. Sometimes I have it and sometimes I don't. For me, the packet loss tends to sit at either 1 or 2 percent and stays pretty consistent from beginning to end. This causes frequent annoying hitches where the screen pauses for a split second from time to time throughout the game. I would rather not play the ECL season with this problem, so I figured I would poll the community about it, see how widespread it is, and determine if there's anything we can do. I would personally much rather play on the Swedish server where I still get decent ping without the packet loss issue, but I understand most Finns would prefer the Helsinki server as it's closer to us and this problem is probably limited to some players only. Based on my own situation and asking around a bit, it seems the problem is specific to those connecting via DNA which is one of the more common Finnish ISPs. So for a start, I'm looking to find out whether the problem is indeed isolated to said ISP, whether everyone on DNA has it, and how frequent it is for others. Any further discussion about this is also appreciated as I would like to bring it to the league admins' attention and see if we can find a way to work around this problem (provided it is indeed widespread enough and doesn't get fixed by Monday when the season begins). Thank you for your cooperation.1 point

Thank you @Janikka. I was gonna make this thing public today aswell. What I have heard, there is many people with this issue. I have DNA Fiber connection, been working as great as possible. And it was great at least the first month of NHL 24. Something has happened after that, last couple weeks I have had 1-3% packet loss about 50% of games, I wasn't wise enough to track that it was only happening on Helsinki servers. But seems like it's connected to DNA aswell? Gonna make a phone call to there today for sure. It's not first time EA servers is having issues with Finnish ISP. Was it NHL 19 when many people was unable to even enter to EASHL game? Anyway, the packet loss is kinda shitty eventho it doesn't make game unplayable. Before they fix this, I say we should use Stockholm servers as a gentlemen rule in ECL, if there is at least 1 player with DNA. Most fair for everyone since it's not to players to decide what ISP they use when they want Fiber/wired. I have high hopes they will get fixed it asap tho. At least if we spread the word and give them a pressure. And what @OGjahajaha said, couple of my friends have reported that weird occasional micro-stutters aswell. They had Elisa. And zero packet loss. They don't remember what server it was when this happened. But seems like the problem is the Helsinki server?1 point

SportsGamers, Plenty of speculation has been rumbling around about which teams will be filling open spots left by disbanded teams in the European Top 16, and we're here to shed some light on the Qualifier process! UPDATE ON THE ELITE QUALIFIERS At the moment, two spots were left open by the disbanded Tohtorit and Reality Check teams. We have invited a total of six teams from ECL '23: Spring - Pro to participate in the Qualifiers, based on their success the previous season. As many of you have seen, Golden Nights decided to decline their invitation and Purification will be taking their place as the next best team up. Here is a list of the participating teams: Purification RCTIC Renascor Unwanted Deadly Phantoms POGGERS Schedule Group stage: 8.11-15.11. Playoffs (BO5): 16.11. The group stage consists of double-headers against each opponent. The four best teams advance to the Playoffs, out of which the winners of each BO5 series will advance to ECL '24: Winter - Elite. UPDATES ON THE FORMATS OF THE PRO AND LITE QUALIFIERS ECL '24: Winter - Pro holds a total of 17 open spots, meaning that the Qualifier Stage 2 will not be played. The four best teams out of the Qualifier groups will advance to ECL '24: Winter - Pro, whereas the rest will play in the playoffs for the last remaining spot. The winner of the playoffs will clinch the last available Pro spot, whereas the remaining teams will play in ECL '24: Winter - Lite. ECL '24: Winter - Lite will allow for all Qualifier teams to enter the division, as long as said Qualifier teams have proven a willingness and ability to compete in the Qualifiers.1 point
