  1. This is a monumental decision. In one of those "damned if they do, damned if they don't" situations for the admins, I think they came through for the good of the community in the long run. Teams and individual players need to plan their schedule around these games more if they are to participate. Some of them will never do that if they can fall back on extending deadlines whenever it's convenient for them. Consider any organized tournament of note in any other game. You can't take a rain check on your participation if you've already signed up. Either you get in the games when they start, or you get out. The default leeway for scheduling in the ECL is generous enough. If you can't work with that it's time to look in the mirror. And really, it does come down to planning ahead. There are people playing these leagues with plenty of obligations between work and family who still have a clean record in adhering to deadlines. With several days for rescheduling around the preset time, the fact that it can be done is proven by many over each of these long seasons. Sure, a team may encounter obstacles they had no possible way of planning for despite the backup players and the time given for rescheduling. That is highly unlikely but certainly possible. Even then, the rules need to be a constant which all teams can rely on, and walkover wins against a team with such exceptionally bad luck are offset by the vast majority of these cases in which the team could've done something differently. SKY are obviously one of the consistently best teams in the ECL. Their performance in the first round against DYN was possibly the most dominant between two top teams that I've seen, and they more than deserved to continue fighting for a place in the finals. No one in their right mind wants to see the semifinals decided this way. However, the league schedule needs to mean something. It needs to be worked with and not against. Ultimately, that is the clearest and fairest way for everyone involved, and that is why this needed to happen. League Admins, I applaud you.

  4. Fight for the ECL5 championship is still going on, but the season is over for us and I feel to be ready to dig in a bit to it. Final standings As many might know already, we finished 8th in regular season and forwarded to playoffs against all odds. How did that happen? We had a flying start to the season as we won our first Elite games 2-0 and 1-2. These games against Northern Ascendancy were really even, but we managed to get full points thanks to our solid team defense, goaltending and deadly finishing. After this strong start we faced Northern Stars and Written In The Stars. These games showed us how tough Elite will be. We only managed to get 1 point from these two opponents. Scores was even and did not have big problems, it just turned the way it turned. Aapon Taikasauva was the only regular season opponent that felt really hard to play against. We had difficulties with our scoring at first half of the season. Pucks just didnt seem to go in. Our team defense worked greatly on the other hand, and that saved us a lot of points. It was actually Carlsberg HC games that got us fired up for the rest of the season. Some might remember our games against Carlsberg at ECL4 in Pro division? Carlsberg was marching on in Pro, defeating everything on their path to Pro title. Then this little team Rusty Blades came and took 4 points against them. That felt awesome then. I had a really good feeling about playing against Carlsberg this season. And we did it again, 4 points. This gave a really good drive for our roster. After this it felt like playoffs can be achieved, it will be achieved. So we did end up in 8th place and got our place in playoffs. Opponent was Aapon Taikasauva, the team that was most difficult opponent for us in regular season. Most difficult by a large margin. As a huge underdogs we surprised everyone by winning first two games. Aapot was not ready to play us, as they counted on too much for being so big of an offensive force that they dont have to organize their team defense. After these first two games we saw a whole new Aapon Taikasauva on the ice. They played a really tight defense, used our very own weapons against us. That is the Aapot that are able to hoist the cup, no matter who they play against. But still, I have to admit that it was a bitter one to drop. All in all our first ECL Elite season was a rock solid. And others have noticed it, as I am hearing lots of rumours about Rusty players. Supreex was great at the net as usual. We do defend well, that helps him a lot. Still I do stand behind my words: Supreex is the best goaltender in ECL. Tauri did not play. But believe it or not, he was still a great part of the team. If we ever have to get rid of our mascot Alba, I do know who to call next! Brothers Kinnunen, Kiki and Kinu did well also. Both of them are now tested and approved to be Elite level d-men. Wuorio was as solid as I knew him to be. Good two-way hockey and 14+20 points. Koojii aka Koutsi, important piece of our team solid just like Wuorio. 17+17 points and after a hard first half of the season in faceoffs he managed to get fow% to 45,9. And Dirty Kantor aka "Hidden Gem" and "Who?". He did have a monkey(or was it ape?) on his shoulders at first. Then everything just clicked and he got it really going. 25+23 in 30 games. Thumbs up. Just a little something about the season. Anxious to get the next one started.

  7. Well...I don't speak often but sometimes it's unbearable. Let me give you a fitting example. I played with Inter Iceland in the second round of the Pro Playoffs. We could not get our "main formation" set for three of the total six games played in this series. Actually two positions were filled with players who were not a part of the regular season whatsoever. - Did we try to prolong the affected games? No - Did we ask to play another time after starting off with two straight losses? No - was it the reason we lost the series? Probably not Of course this series does not get anywhere near the attention that Elite-Series get. But the rules are the same for Elite, Pro and Lite, aren't they? This is not supposed to be an offending reply. I just think that if you have the chance as a GM to get six players of your team to play, even when it's playoffs and not your best of six ... well just do it. Give some other Player on your team a chance. Winning isn't everything but wanting to win is

  13. People can talk about respect for the league and respect for the game all they want, and how it is ridiculous that LA gives out WO’s at this stage in a ”competitive eSports league”, but respect for the league is a two-way street - you and me, as players, should respect the league enough to have the games played within the allocated time period.

  15. Oh well, ggs. I will start by saying that this wasn't in any way Flyerkungen's fault. Guy's getting all the shit thrown at him even though he was busting his ass off trying to get the games played. Did all he could and does not deserve any of this shit. (Martindale, eat shit) I arrived from my infamous trip to Miami on Saturday/Sunday night(was great!) and we were ready to play from Sunday onwards. Btw Johtajavirtanen took my spot on LW against Dynasty. So we missed two potential gamedays in semi-finals first week(Wednesday/Thursday) because come on, no one plays on weekends. TWO DAYS. Then we were available on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. At this point unfortunate scheduling things got into play as SJK:s goalies couldn't play before 22cet on couple nights and we had some workshift problems aswell. Everything was negotiated peacefully and both teams had zero problem on agreeing to play today. I understand that it is over the deadline and a punishable action on some situations. But seriously. In ECL semi-finals, when both teams have no problem with the situation and have ABSOLUTELY no desire for walkovers. This was clearly LA:s attempt to brush their soft imago, which is understandable and NEEDED to get people respect the rules. But in my personal opinion this was not the right circumstance to make that move. Yeah, I can take the blame on myself for missing 2 gamedays while sipping pina coladas. I thought we had appropriate amount of time left to finish the series which was 4 _potential_ gamedays. There's just always unfortunate surprises. I won't argue that this wasn't the right call according to the rulebook. I just believe that this was not the right call according to the circumstances. Good luck SJK

  16. NHLGamers, In the case that occured between SJK eSports and Written in the Stars in the ECL Elite semi-finals, the following outcome has been agreed on: No extra time will be given. Before the ECL 5 Playoffs, the Staff took heavy criticism for lack of clarity in terms of deadlines. Not only in ECL 5, but in previous ECLs as well. Since the beginning of the ECL 5 playoffs, extra effort has been made to improve the clarity of that information. Therefore, the statement "Each pairing, Elite or Pro, must be finished within 7 days from today, meaning last evening to play games is December xxth. Don't expect any extensions!" has been included whenever possible (including in all Elite playoff news communication). Furthermore, a notification above the chatbox with the exact information of the last day to play has been visible for the past two rounds. We have not seen any valid arguments as to why extra time should be given. Precedent Precedent is a legal term that is defined as "an earlier event or action that is regarded as an example or guide to be considered in subsequent similar circumstances.". In the ECL 5 Playoffs, there is a precedent for this type of case. In the Pro playoff matchup between Gotham Knights and J P T J, Gotham was awarded 2 WO wins due to J P T J not being able to produce a lineup on the assigned day. Ruling to give extra time in this case would suggest that teams are not equal and that the rules do not have the same meaning to all teams. This is not true for the ECL. Both Captains were lacking in communication The fact that LA received this information on the day of the last scheduled playoff date is the reason for this verdict taking so long. Always remember, if you are experiencing trouble scheduling games, getting in touch with LA as early as possible is not only encouraged - it is also expected as these decisions need to be discussed thoroughly before deciding. Availability This is LAs understanding of the availability of both teams: Wednesday: SJK available, SKY unavailable Thursday: SJK available, SKY unavailable Friday: SJK available, SKY unavailable Saturday: SJK available, SKY unavailable Sunday: SJK unavailable, SKY available Monday: SJK available, SKY available - 4 games played Tuesday: SJK available, SKY available - but at different times and could not come to an agreement on starting time This gives a total of SJK available on 6/7 days and SKY available on 3/7 days for the round. If we look at traditionally scheduled game days (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday) SJK was available on 3/3 days and SKY on 1/3 days. The LAs understanding of availability is based on official communication from both teams with regards to this case. In the case of SKY, their extended unavailability is also understood to be due to one of their preferred forwards (Bugimir) being away on vacation until Sunday the 3rd of December - information that was communicated to LA at an earlier point when SKY appealed for more time to play their games in the previous round versus Dynasty. Furthermore, FlyerKungen's (SKY captain) very public comments on a previous news story gave the clear impression that SKY were not interested in playing any playoff games without their top 6 lineup and that leniency in the form of extra days should be given to ensure the integrity of the league. In this context the 8-player roster limit, that has been part of the ECL rules since the first season, was questioned as well. LA argues that the integrity of the league is ensured by teams following the deadlines that have been communicated with the utmost clarity throughout the entire playoffs. A key aspect to meeting these deadlines is keeping a healthy roster size, which the vast majority of teams in all divisions have been working on. Running a 6-player core roster accompanied by two "dummy" players turned out to be the main dealbreaker in this case. RULING SJK is awarded 2 WO wins and moves on to the ECL Elite finals. The decision rests heavily on the amount of days both teams were available as that is the only valid parameter this case could possibly be ruled on - once the option of "extra time" was precluded. CONCLUSIONS Walkover wins in the playoffs are never a good thing, no matter what round or division. However, having a League Administration that sticks to rules and announcements and treats all of the teams equally builds trust in the platform. While things still weren't perfect throughout ECL 5, we are adjusting parameters every season to eradicate the remaining hiccups. This means we will need to ask you some questions before the start of ECL 6: Is the 8-player limit a well-deemed rule? Are 7 days enough to complete possibly 7 games in a single playoff round? Do we need to take an entirely different approach to scheduling and enforcing deadlines? An additional post announcing the Elite finals will be released, but finalists Aapon Taikasauva and SJK can start scheduling their games. League Administration

Perhaps you couldve barked at the wind or slapped your chest some more, who knows.... On topic: its pretty obvious that some people dont understand rules and why you have them. Isnt that a ”tell” that you’re: (1) really really stupid or (2) really really really really stupid?

  27. I believe everyone wants to see games played and not WOs. But I also believe majority of players wants the deadlines to hold and be respected.. even if WOs are required to achieve that. We learned from last year we need to finish the tournament before christmas and that's why there are deadlines. I have read all the messages here and based on that I think the problem in this case was that LA recieved the information about scheduling problem too late and they didn't recieve all the information about this case before their decision. And maybe teams scheduling games were too confident that they will get that extra day if needed. If LA would have been contacted earlier with all the important information about this case, maybe there would had been one extra day for semifinals to be played who knows. Too bad there had to be WOs. I would have wanted to see the games played. But I am also happy LA respected the deadline. Not easy decision to make for LA. Good luck to final teams and good luck to SKY for next season.

  29. What is this shitstorm? Stop crying, i can understand the fact that this case has different opinions. You forced LA to make the call, live with it. Next time make sure you have enough players in your roster so you are capable of playing the games. Last thing you should do is to attack against LA, theyre here to enforce the rules, and its the shittiest "job" you can do here, but someone has to do it. If you want improvements to rules, do pass them on privately. You aint getting anything done better for next time by talking bullcrap.

  35. Sure, I get that some people were offended, but I dont understand why people that actually agree with the LA decision are. My post was directed towards the people that disagreed with the LA decision - and yes, maybe it was kinda harsh, but it's infuriating seeing so many posters stupitity and their reasons for disagreeing with LA. I'm sure that they (LA), just as me, have a real job and social life of their own, so when they invest their time and effort in this situation, created by two teams that cant use a computer or know what communication is, making the best out of the situation, they should'nt even have to defend their decision on the matter. I dont have a hard time calling out someone for what they are. If someones stupid, i'll call em stupid. If someone tries to suck it up to the involved teams by disagreeing with LA to get some likes, I call them out as well. I also know that I'm not perfect in any way, but know that if you try to get to me in some way, I have a couple of things to say myself. Also, I dont offense if guys like that "joystick (?)"-guy don't know who I am or not, I kinda made my own bed there by creating a team called "Unknown" where I even got Foppatofflan to change his gamertag so that none would know who we were (damn you Anton ^^) Psy

  36. Well sure i can. Pretty much everything you wrote after "Great job, LA." is a personal attack and extremely patronizing to anyone in here that doesnt share the opinion of the LA's verdict. Totally uncalled for. Also it's beyond me why you have to go and make it your mission and assault anyone that doesnt think like you. Many of us agree with the LA's thoughts/verdict in this case, myself included. But that doesnt give us the right to behave like douchebags to the ones that doesnt. I hope this helped share some light in the matter.

  37. Great job, LA. I'm not surprised that some people are angry and that some tries to friends with everybody by sucking it up to the teams involved - there's so many dumb people on this earth, some are bound to be on this site as well. Edit: Actually, this is a great way of sorting out the people with some brains and the people who're stupid as **** on this site. Jej!

  38. Obviously I'm very sad about this result. It would have felt way more better to try to reach finals by yourself, not by staff decision. Both teams agreed to play today, if we get permission from staff. They didn't gave it for us and it feels very bad and kinda wrong in this situation, but I also understand it. If they would have given us permission, every team in the future would have used this as an example to get extra time. I'm glad I didn't have to make this decision. Staffs would have received hate anyway, whatever they would have decided. What an ungrateful job to have right now. In the end I feel really bad for SKY, I know how big thing this is for them and how much they have trained.
