  1. I don't know if you're still reading any messages on here, but I just saw this thread now and wanted to say something. You were always, shall we say, a controversial figure in the scene, and this goes all the way back to those early Xbox 360 days. However, although I never played with you on the same team (to my recollection at least), my understanding is that everyone who did enjoyed every moment of it. One of those guys who came across as strongly (perhaps even aggressively) opinionated but was greatly liked by everyone who actually knew you, I guess. From my perspective, it's always sad to see one of these old timers go that I remember from way back when I started. There aren't that many left! And one thing is for sure: no one could have accused you of not caring about where we are at as a community, and the state of the game itself, at any point along the way over all these years. I salute you, sir, and wish you well in all your other pursuits. Thank you.
  2. Your reply is kind of all over the place so I'll disregard the parts that don't seem relevant. I read all of your messages in the thread before posting my first response to you. It's true that you gave your opinion. You always give your opinion, so that's definitely not in question. My gripe is with the way you go about it. Going on a decade and a half now I've seen you serve your opinions as a condiment to go with the main dish of trolling the conversation. That tends to leave a bad taste in some people's mouths. To be fair, maybe you really do care about the community. The way it comes across though is that you care much more about provoking people into arguing with you so that you can reply with more of the same. As for my take on the actual topic, I'm kind of conflicted but leaning more toward thinking the implementation is unfair. I applaud SportsGamer for taking steps to build up the brand with increased visibility via prominent advertising, increased prize pools, celebrity guests on streams, etc. I see all that as part of the same overarching strategy where the Elite and FCL game broadcasts got more polished and professional, and I see these increased license fees as perhaps a necessary move that plays into all that. At the same time, the deal just got a whole lot worse for anyone below the Elite level, and it gets worse the lower you go in the divisions. I can well understand the confusion and frustration especially of a Core or Lite player who has to pay more for participation without feeling like they're getting more in return.
  3. Man. As a fellow old-timer, I'm glad to have you around to this day. In fact, I consider you a kind of scene legend. I mean, you were trolling these conversations literally before some of the players today were even born. At the same time, I can't help but wonder. Over all these years, I don't remember seeing you make one comment where you didn't try to get a rise out of people. You've made a lot of comments and I'm sure some of your more constructive messages are just slipping my mind right now, but that's only because they're drowned out by the overwhelming barrage of confrontational posts. It's just strange to me that you would bother keeping that up year in, year out. I am aware that unlike me, you actually have a life, which just makes it all the more baffling.
  4. Still free (for RD/LD and maybe some G on the side) for FCL, ECL and so on.
  5. Looking for a new team (not for WECL though). I can do RD/LD/G. I will play forward if you want, but I would strongly recommend against even considering it. I speak Finnish and some English. I am an older person. I would very much like to continue playing at the Pro level. If you have one of the following players (who are all free agents as of writing this BTW) on your team, it's a huge plus for me: (my good friend Sami) imosi, Pakis AKA pakjiz, or PSchibra.
  6. Finnish Roosters Out: Korvenmikaelsson -> ? devilfish333 -> ? Koojiikoojii -> ? Janikka- -> ?
  7. In: KorvenMikaelsson This teenage prospect rounds out our roster for ECL 12 Pro. Traditionally, youngsters have tended to emerge as top players after graduating from the tough school of JohtajaTheGreat, so it will be very interesting to see how things pan out with this highly potential player.
  8. Finnish Roosters Out: pakjiz Kisuuu- Profiilipakki TuomoP83 PSchibra In: Lionite (G) semiseko (D) Nukutttaja (F)
  9. It must be very challenging to reconcile all these various factors that go into decisions like these when you're transitioning from a four-tier system into a five-tier one. That said, I think there is a lesson for the staff (who I understand to be dedicated, passionate, and working hard to give us all the best ECL experience possible) to be learned from these announcements. They have been well-written so I'm not criticizing that, but they have included so much to take in that it can get confusing. The puzzle is so large that putting it together without missing any pieces can be difficult. The staff obviously knows all that stuff before the announcements, and presenting it in an easily digestible manner to the rest of us is something that I feel could be improved. It is tricky for sure, but I think a potential approach would be to prioritize the most pertinent information, perhaps even making separate announcements published some time apart, and to more strongly differentiate the various bits of information via logical categorization. This would help people build a coherent overview of the changes in their minds. Realistically, long detailed explanations will not engage most people's steadfast attention. This leads to some of the evident confusion and misunderstanding where some things come as a surprise to some people despite having already been presented. After all that I will add that my message mainly concerns the vast announcement during ECL 11 as this new one on its own is quite effective.
  10. These are welcome changes as far as I'm concerned. The skill gap in Lite has been excessive based on results and the level of some of the Lite teams I've faced in regular EASHL with my team. There are a number of teams down there that would have done fine in Pro this season, and then there are others that are nowhere near that level. Also, making it easier for competitive Lite teams to climb up and more difficult for struggling Pro teams to stay there seems good to me. I do agree that such a big change during the season feels a bit abrupt. To enter a season knowing full well what's at stake is rather different to playing this far into it and then being informed that those stakes have been altered and now your team needs to adapt to the new scenario. I guess I should have just kept my eyes open though since this was made known from the outset, as Kenu pointed out.
  11. NHLGamers, NOTE: This log was written on Friday, 11th of December and opinions/statements reflect the situation of the past. I thought I’d post some recent thoughts on my team and ECL 11. First things first: we haven’t had the easiest season so far. This is both because our game wasn’t ready from the beginning and because ECL Pro is a tough division these days. It’s so tough, in fact, that perhaps I should have tempered my expectations for our brand new roster. So far, though, I feel like we are learning as we go. That’s obviously not the optimal way to go about it, considering you tend to miss all-important points in the process, but we need to accept that reality and move along. As the captain, there’s been a lot to learn. One thing is the important role of the assistant captains. It gets difficult trying to manage everything by yourself, and the utility of having a variety of perspectives cannot be overstated. Having the C and A’s play off each other is imperative in the successful management of the team. A dictatorship actually worked for us for a really long time, but it was a unique situation where we benefited from the unwavering leadership of one Johtaja the Great (@J0HTAJA). Another big aspect of team management has been player dynamics and figuring out the lineup for games. I’ve never had to think about that before unless I really wanted to, so mostly I’ve just focused on playing my own game in the past. It’s such an intricate thing to balance, isn’t it? There’s a lot to consider—how do you find the specific 6-man unit that works together the best, and how do you keep everyone happy and committed enough in the process? It’s also crucial to find that optimal lineup as quickly as possible so as to ensure continuity in the team’s game. I am fortunate in that my team has been very good about this as there has been zero drama about who gets to play and who doesn’t. I am very grateful to everyone on the roster because such distractions are sure to detract from the team’s main objective in some way. On a more personal level, I find myself returning to something that was first pointed out to me by Roots defenseman @vSilenttio a long time ago. During games, it is vital to focus on the current moment instead of things external to it. All too often, a player starts thinking about a situation in the game that should have gone differently or begins to form various scenarios in the mind of how the momentum is shifting, how much time there is left to tie the game, and so on and so forth. Barring the obvious requirement for someone to assume a leader’s role in reacting in the party as needed, none of that really matters. The way to help your team is to focus on one very simple thing: performing the next situation to the best of your abilities. Shift after shift, moment after moment. And that’s why, going back to the beginning, where we’re at in the standings right now doesn’t really make a difference. You always know what to do next because nothing could be simpler. Get in the moment and stay there until you hear the sound of the final buzzer. A huge thanks to @Janikka for sharing his thoughts in this article! 12. Finnish Roosters In: x__w1ld__x from: free agent NeonHum from: dug up and reanimated from the ancient crypt of Finnish Roosters history Out: Profiilipakki to: Goons Thank you for everything, Jere. You're a highly potential young player with an absolutely exemplary attitude! We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when, but I know we'll meet again...some sunny day.
  13. We have finalized our roster for ECL 11. Now it's all about honing our game together by identifying the problematic aspects and working to improve them as the season opener draws near. As the captain and GM, my main objective is to continue our ECL Pro tradition of making it into the playoffs. It is certainly a challenge with all the changes we've had and Pro being competitive as ever, but I see it as a realistic goal at the outset. Of course, the truth is always determined on the ice. Forwards @PSchibra (A) @pakjiz AKA Pakis (A) @TuomoP83 @koojiikoojii @ilikkaa Defensemen @Janikka AKA Janikka- (C) @yolonaattori69 AKA Profiilipakki @mannnes AKA Kisuuu- Goalie @devilfish333 Finnish Roosters alumni JohtajaTheGreat JParola The alumni remain on the roster as we head into the season. The Finnish Roosters organization does not comment on the particulars of their status with regard to the ECL at this time. (logo by @Neonhum)
  14. Finnish Roosters (formerly known as Children of Ice) is looking for a forward to its main opening lineup in ECL 11. We are heading into yet another season of ECL Pro, and prior experience from the Pro level is a requirement. Despite the team name, being Finnish is not required as long as you are willing and able to communicate in English. That said, the current team consists mainly of Finns along with some Latvian and Austrian flavor thrown into the mix.
  15. Donning the C I’ve never seen myself as a leader. This goes for any context, not just EASHL. I was never the type for it, and so I’ve always looked for leadership in others. Having caused my share of problems on teams in the past, I was more of a guy you needed to keep in check. You needed someone like Johtaja to tell me off when I would deviate from what was best for the team. I feel like I have matured and am no longer the erratic person I once was. This didn’t really make the idea of stepping into Johtaja’s shoes any easier for me, though. I still would have liked to just sit back and play, letting him do the rest. Upon hearing the news about him, my first thought was to transfer to another team and play under someone else. I still have my doubts about whether I have the authority for this role. There are different tones of authority, of course, and I’ll never be another Johtaja, but it’s still a learning process and I think will be that way for some time. The necessary qualities don’t come naturally to me, so I need to look within and bring those qualities out into our WhatsApp group and our PSN parties. I have already had a taste of how it feels when things start to click, though. You put together a lineup and point out some things about how you’d like your team to play, and when you see it actually starting to work out, the feeling is extremely rewarding. I can definitely see why some people like to assume this position from the outset. Amid the questions and uncertainties, I’m lucky to have the wisdom of people like my official video coach Pakis (a.k.a. Pakjiz) and my trusty assistant captain PSChibra advising me on how to proceed in all this. And whenever things get too dire, I shall look up into the rafters of our home arena. From there, the guiding light of Johtaja shall shine upon us and illuminate the way forward.
  16. The evil Telia corporation decided to disturb the universal balance by disconnecting the internet connection of Johtaja the Great, our one and only leader. This is because he lives in the middle of nowhere, and the local customer base for the ISP consisted only of him and some farmer whose tractor could often be heard in our PSN party whenever Johtaja went out for a smoke on his balcony. Johtaja refuses to play on a 4G mokkula which is really unstable where he lives, and the area just recently got 4G coverage so 5G is a ways off over there. This means the end of his illustrious EASHL career, at least for now. It also means that I am taking over the captain duties. Shortly before this situation occurred, Johtaja reverted the team's name from Children of Ice (an allusion to his favorite band, Children of Bodom) to its original name of Finnish Roosters. I am adhering to this change, and so we are continuing under the name that was first used by Johtaja for his team more than ten years ago. I intend to stand guard awaiting the return of Johtaja. While I am assuming the official position of team captain and all the related duties, Johtaja is an honorary captain and the only true leader of this team. Finnish Roosters will devote all its wins to Johtaja and ask his forgiveness for all its losses. While the situation is bleak, we will not lose faith that one day, somehow, he will come back to us and reclaim his rightful position as our leader on and off the ice. Until that day comes, I hope to do right by his name. Meanwhile, the legendary defenseman JParola will also not be continuing with us. Further changes to the roster will be announced.
  17. Let's not leave out the hopelessly erratic download speeds and the dreadful PS Store with some of its content sometimes not loading at all. Not only can the Xbox do better, it has always done so. Maybe Sony will fix everything in time for PS5 and bring the PSN up to 2020s standards, but I highly doubt it.
  18. NHL is pretty much the only game I play on consoles. I will determine my decision solely by which console the NHLGamer scene moves to. I'm hoping it'll be the Xbox, but I bet it will be the PS5 since Europe has always favored the PlayStation over the Xbox. My experience on the PS3 was already considerably worse than on the Xbox 360. I've never owned an Xbox One (seeing as how competitive NHL was always mainly on the PS4 during this generation), but PSN overall has remained far worse compared to Xbox Live back then. Also, I vastly prefer the Xbox One controller over the DS4, although the latter is admittedly a big improvement over the absolutely terrible DS3. I have a couple of Xbox One controllers for PC use just because they suit my hands really well. I don't really care about which console will be more powerful as that is so inconsequential with regard to NHL. Cross-platform play for NHL would be the dream because then I could just get the next Xbox and not even have to consider the PS5.

I think it is impossible to determine some ultimate truth about a top 3, so all we can ever have are subjective opinions. There are too many variables. Opinions are fun, though, so it's okay.

ECL 10 - Sign Up Now

I was hoping we'd still get to play for something in NHL 20. Thanks, gang!
  21. Children of Ice @PSchibra didn't want to speak Latvian to himself so we salvaged @xLVxRitchey from the rubble of SSG. We are planning no further signings. Here, then, is our full roster at this point: JohtajaTheGreat (center and Dear Leader) nikmes7 (winger) Pikkardz (winger) JParola (all-rounder) PSChibra (all-rounder) Janikka- (defender) xLVxRitchey (defender) Bloodymess_666 (goalie)
  22. Children of Ice In: @PSchibra Out: @Nagyttaja Straight from the Latvian streets, PSchibra returns to the team from a little break. Welcome back! 😍 On behalf of the entire Children of Ice organization, I would like to thank the gifted young man Nagyttaja for everything he did for us and wish him success in the future and good times for the remainder of his service with the Finnish Defence Forces.
  23. Regardless of this debate, I feel like there is huge untapped potential in the Swedish pool of console hockey fans. It would be healthy for the competition at the top to expand. We have some fantastic Swedish players as it is, but the elite playership is more Finn-heavy than I imagine it would be if we got more Swedes to notice the competitive scene. I know hockey is up against football in Sweden and football is more popular, but I'm not sure the current situation is an accurate reflection of the ratio between Swedish and Finnish virtual hockey players. I don't have the numbers to back up this hunch, though. Maybe I'm wrong and playing these games is truly an overwhelmingly Finnish phenomenon. I have no idea which way the high number of Finns in the eSHL will take the league's popularity in Sweden. @keranee said that around 70% of players in the league are still Swedish. That doesn't sound too bad.
  24. The influx of Finnish players was a given at the outset where, based on the description in the original announcement, this league will apparently have the most professional setting we've seen yet in competitive EASHL. Many players will naturally be drawn to that. I imagine SHL at the very least had a say in the rules for this league? I suppose they didn't request a restriction on the number of non-Swedish players.
