Curious as to why these two rules were changed:

Those implementations stray away from what the WECL should be about IMO

The idea is to mantain a balance between the WECL being the regional league for our countries, but at the same time allowing the top teams in it to improve their roster for any championship.

The 2-man limit was a bit tight for some teams that were adding quality foreign players in order to compete in the ECL, so the rule was changed to mantain the essence but not limit the potential of any team.

Regarding skill cap, if there are Pro division teams elegible to play in S2, capping the skill in Pro could handicap these teams in the event that they want to make a signing from Elite to improve their team long-term. It is possible that some Elite foreign superstar could decide to play only the WECL and win the scoring title, but I think this risk doesn't justify capping the skill and potentially handicapping elite-aspiring teams.

The rule could change from 2 to 3 players limit for example, but we thought at least 50% local was simple and efficient enough to ensure the participating teams were local based. Happy to discuss further :)

Sorry if I've missed the point but when does registration open and if so we're do I register?

Stay tuned, we are optimistic to open signups next week.

  2. Finished up the first draft of our planned S2 for August start.

Here are the most important changes whitin it for everyone to evaluate and discuss:

    3.1 General WIP

All registered members are allowed to register a team for NHLGamer leagues/tournaments. The team's registrant will be set as captain by default. Team registration is only possible during the signup period, ending on July 28th.

    3.2 Requirements WIP

In order to be eligible for NHLGamer leagues/tournaments, teams must:

Have a captain and 2 assistant captains

Have a total of at least 7 players

Use the same team name on NHLGamer.com and NHL 21

Use unique numbers within a team (two players on the same team cannot use the same  number at the same time)

             No more than 14 players

No more than half of your roster of foreign origin

    3.4 Skill Cap WIP

The skill cap would only be applied on a potential second division of the WECL and would prevent foreign players from ECL 12 Pro or Elite divisions from taking part.

    Removed 7.2 Top Team Status

    7.1 General WIP

The WECL Season 2 structure depends in good part on the final number of teams we manage to gather. The scenario we are expecting is to be able to have 2 divisions of around 12 teams each. If the number of teams changes drastically from the inaugural season, we will have to adjust this format and come up with something different, hopefully not compromising the 2-gamedays per week pace of the league in the process.

We will keep updating this section of the rulebook as we have a better idea of the final product.

    7.3 Playoffs

Out of the participating teams, 8 teams will make the playoffs. The teams will be seeded 1-8 2-7 3-6 4-5. Home and Away is to be alternated after every game, with the best seeded team starting at home and all series being best-of-7.

    7.4 Promotion/Relegation WIP

In the event that we can host a second division, the promotion and relegation system considered is that the winner of the second division would automatically promote, whereas the 2nd place team would face the 2nd worst WECL team in a qualifier, while the last place WECL team gets automatic relegation.

    7.5 Division 1 “tickets” WIP

Tickets system might be implemented in order for teams that want to skip a season but maintain their top division spot if they earned it. A Division 1 ticket is obtained after the season depending on the standings, and can be spent no later than in the next 2 WECL seasons (IE a ticket won on Season 1 can be used no later than on Season 3) afterwards the ticket is void and said team is to join the league structure like any other new team.

Based on points per game, the following teams earned division 1 tickets on the inaugural season:

Grenoble BDL (Now Spartiates X MCES), Latvian Warriors, Silver Sword Griffins, Hoko Gang, Dynamo Dragons, Remparts de Tours, Latvian Esports, Remparts de Tours 2, Epinal HC Esport, Granada Grizzlies, Sesku Patversme, Vipers Montpellier.

Depending on the number of spots that come free, the following teams in order will be placed in the top division despite not having earned a ticket:

Pirates Esports, Boxers Bordeaux, Annecy Hockey eSport, French Rookies, MVP Players, Occitania HC, Polish Patriots

8.3 End of regular season WIP

All regular season games in WECL must have been played and reported by September 5th 23:59 CET.

    8.4 Playoff Schedule WIP

All games in playoff series' must be finished as listed below:

     • Quarterfinals (BO7): Sept 6th-Sept 12th

     • Semifinals (BO7): Sept 13th-Sept 19th

     • Finals (BO7): Sept 20th-Sept 26th

    WECL S2 Rules v1.pdf

  3. Gentlemen,

Thank you all for chipping into the talk.

We're optimistic S2 can happen this summer. It's obvious playing during this time can be problematic as people might be on holidays, but due to laid back nature of this competition of 2 opponents per week perhaps teams short of players during august can move these games around the schedule (as long as the opponent agrees ofc) to find a better date

League format is intended to be split into top and bottom divisions.

What's on the table currently regarding local/foreign rule and skill cap is:

On both divisions at least half of your roster has to be of local origin, no 2-man limit

No skill cap on top division, Lite or worse skill limit for foreign players in division 2

We hope to come out with an updated rulebook during June.

You can share any questions, comments or concerns via this thread or using the support tool.

    Thanks!

  4. Hello,

As ECL 12 gets underway for most divisions, it's time to start drawing the future of our domestic league after a successful inaugural season.

Ideally we will use this thread to discuss the dates and viability of running the WECL 2 after the ECL 12 and before NHL 22 comes out, while Format and Rules are also allowed to be discussed here if you have some questions or suggestions.

While we don't have genuine information on this detail yet, we're expecting NHL 22 to come out around mid October (NHL 21 was Oct. 13) and the ECL Pro to finish 28/7. This leaves us with the calendar empty of NHLGamer competition at least through all of August and September.

On to the actual question in this thread, you can vote the option you feel the most close to at the moment, so we have a good idea if people actually want to play during these dates.

Regarding format, our idea is to mantain the pace of the league of 2 gamedays per week and split the overall table from the inaugural season into top and bottom divisions, instead of groups A/B.

Our local/foreign and skill cap rules from season 1 could be revised.

Last, if season 2 doesn't happen after ECL 12 in NHL21, the next available window will be after ECL 13 on NHL 22.

Keep in mind the WECL 2 could be the last tournament played on PS4 before we all make the jump to new gen.

  5. Absolutely on board with this and I could see the IIHF involved.

    Let's hope!

Well because ping problems it should be lan tournament and theres no money for that.

Across NA-EU definitely would be an issue but for an Euro cup it could be ran online if the ECL can.

  6. Updated the following rules:

    League Structure

    7.1 General

The WECL Inaugural season will be drawn into 2 groups. A promotion/relegation is possible in the future, and the results from Season 1 could play an important role in the composition of the Season 2 divisions. Any decisions on this matter will be properly communicated to all team captains.

    7.3 Playoffs

Out of the participating teams, 8 teams will make the playoffs these being the best 4 of both groups. The teams will be seeded as 1-4 and 2-3. Home and Away is to be alternated after every game, with the best seeded team starting at home for best-of-5 quarter finals and semis, and best-of-7 finals.

    Scheduling

    8.3 End of Regular Season

All regular season games in WECL must have been played and reported by March 22nd 23:59 CET.

  7. Rules updated to reflect:

    • Exception granted specifically to Dynamo Dragons for their half foreign/half local origin.
    • Removed rule 9.7.1 Player "Players are not allowed to equip non-standard or in other words ‘CHEL’ style gloves and / or helmets (e.g. ‘Solid goooooold’)."

Still WIP the group format and playoff schedule.

Currently the championship is predicted to fully end Apr. 12

  8. Use this thread to state your availability and find a new club for the WECL.

    • Please keep in mind the regional scope and skill criteria rules.
    • Give details about your playing style and on how to reach you, and if you're based in a foreign or local country.
    • The transfer deadline for Season 1 is still TBA.

    Regional scope and skill criteria:

    Spoiler

    Regional scope of the WECL

As a regional league, the WECL has three officially recognized countries (ES, FR and UK). However, teams based in countries that are not already represented in the current (ongoing or not) NHLGamer regional leagues (CSCL, GCL, RCL, FCL and SCL) are also eligible to take part.

Teams from the following countries are eligible for the WECL and their players don’t count against the foreign player cap:

    Albania
    Andorra
    Armenia
    Azerbaijan
    Belarus
    Belgium
    Bosnia and Herzegovina
    Bulgaria
    Croatia
    Cyprus
    Denmark
    Estonia
    France
    Georgia
    Greece
    Hungary
    Iceland
    Ireland
    Italy
    Kazakhstan
    Kosovo
    Latvia
    Liechtenstein
    Lithuania
    Luxembourg
    Macedonia
    Malta
    Moldova
    Monaco
    Montenegro
    Netherlands
    Norway
    Poland
    Portugal
    Romania
    San Marino
    Serbia
    Slovenia
    Spain
    Turkey
    Ukraine
    UK
    Vatican City

Teams from the following countries are already eligible for another regional league and cannot sign teams up, players will also count against the foreign player cap:

    Czech Republic
    Slovakia
    Germany
    Austria
    Switzerland
    Russia
    Finland
    Sweden

Players from these countries are counted against a limit of 2 foreign players on the roster.

English is considered the only official language of the WECL and all communications sent out regarding the Championship, or exchanged with the LA will be in this language. Users are free, however, to use English, French or Spanish in the league’s own sub-forum.

    Skill cap

As stated, teams are allowed 2 foreign players in the roster. This is to help teams that are possibly struggling to find enough players to complete their roster otherwise. In addition to that, we will also add a skill cap for the foreign players, meaning that any player counting against the foreign player cap cannot have played in either ECL Elite or Pro within the past two competitive seasons. (Ex. A player that has played in ECL Pro in season 10, but in Lite in season 11 is not eligible, whereas if they would have player in Pro in season 9 and in Lite in season 10 and 11, they would be eligible for participation.)

To make it short: up to two foreign players having played in Neo, Lite or no divisions of the ECL over the past two seasons are eligible to be registered.

some good points @Claudi27, but waiting for „our region to get more players“ is not a solution because it doesnt to anything about the skill gap.

The waiting time is not the biggest problem, its the lack of competitive opponents for BPH and the central european Pro/Lite teams

In a way if we get more teams we can play more, compete more, and reduce the skill gap. Right now it's a heaven if you're based in North, not so much in Central/West. I guess that's the point I'm trying to make.

  10. In my opinion it's a matter of the player base just growing larger so playing in the Central/Western Europe isn't so tedious.

Our team is Spanish. Every time we log in to play, if we search best game location, and at prime time (around 8PM), it takes a good long minute to find a game. This isn't much of an issue, there just aren't that many teams on. Instead if I play with some team from Finland or Sweden, it takes 20 seconds to find a game. I can live with this though.

However if you move out of the prime time, the average search time is 5-7 minutes I'd say and most of the time we have to settle with playing against 1 or 2 bots, or CPU goalie.

We try to search 'relaxed' to get matched against Finnish teams, but if these teams don't search Relaxed too, we end up cancelling a game because the game matched us with an american team we have connection issues with. This is frustrating and tedious.

You can't force northern europe teams to search relaxed. The difference, I have experienced, is going from 33 or so ping in best game location, to 55 or so ping playing in northern europe. Enforcing teams to play outside of their best location doesn't seem like the best idea, top teams love to play fast and ping is so crucial here, they would be mad to have to play at 40 ping instead of 10 simply because the player base in central and western europe isn't so big. It's not fair, but Northen Europe teams aren't to blame and should not pay for that with a worse ping.

So it's a problem that doesn't have an easy solution other than waiting for the player base in these regions to get bigger. The only fix I can think of is making 'relaxed' location search  less wide. It's stupid that you have so many different regions, and the option is instead a binary between 'absolute best game location or play the lottery' and this is what needs fixing, the inability to search in regions where you don't have the best connection, but it's still playable.

  11. Hello all,

We've signed up a team in ECL 10 - Neo. Our roots are 3 different Spanish EASHL clubs, and this is our first season playing competitively. Our goal is to improve as a team and try to compete in as many games as possible. We're used to getting crushed, and hope most of all to commit to finish this season without roster struggles and establishing a strong core.

We're looking forward to being good rivals and excited to play against all the great teams in the league :)

Feel free to give a warm welcome to my teammates:

    @amarra24@ANieves74@viktors89@Marbury@awar_7@Zombqvist@TheGooner33@rasbaku@miniquick32@jokas7@RogerDurruti

    Good luck everyone!!
