  1. Looking for a Spring Cup team.

Willing to play any forward position and LD in an emergency. Doesn't have to be a starting position.

I'm very experienced but haven't played since end of January, so don't expect miracles. I will need some catching up. I'm looking to just have fun and contribute to the team.

    What you get from me:

    - 3rd line skills

    - 3rd world internet

    - 3rd rate jokes

What I'm looking for in a team is a mature & relaxed atmosphere. Skill-sets or past achievements don't matter. I speak Finnish & English but I don't mind hearing other languages either.

There is some voodoo going on
    Then
My apartment in Jönköping: 26ms - 1369km from Dublin    1000/100 Fiber
My parents' house in Örebro: 16ms - 1484km from Dublin   100/100 Fiber

    Now
    My apartment in Jönköping: 29ms

It's actually not voodoo. 9_9 Routing makes a big difference - the packets take a longer trip than a straight line distance on a map.

Here's a map to illustrate the European internet backbone architecture:

    rb136f1.gif

The map is old but gives the right idea. Finns will be happy to know that a new cable is being installed in the Baltic Sea between Finland and Germany, i.e. bypassing Sweden and Denmark and giving better performance.

I have no clue how the eashl connection works. But I do know that my router pings a server in California for eashl. I think this has to do with stats etc. If I try to geo-filter just europe I get stuck in dr. But then the router tells me its peer connection, and I can also see my teammates ISPs. If it was only a dedicated server, why would my router care for teammates isps hmm.

I contacted ea about the californian server but they had no clue. Their response was that different countries connect to different servers.

And my 24ms in-game shows up as 54ms on my router, so apparently that is also bullshit.

To sum it up...nobody seem to know how this shit works.

Typical customer support.. "make sure you have the power cable plugged in, thank you and have a nice day!".

I wouldn't trust the in-game network performance too much either, but it usually gives a decent general idea.

If you want a more accurate result, I'd suggest opening up Command Prompt and typing "ping -n 100 159.153.76.33". It will run a series of 100 ping commands to the Dublin server. My results looked like what one would expect from a 3rd world connection that I have to put up with: Minimum = 59ms, Maximum = 102ms, Average = 64ms

Hope that helps someone. Now I'll go and cry myself to sleep and dream of 21st century.

Well with this mindset no one would ever learn who anyone is im afraid.

The way I see it, the players on the ice are more like artists with an alias, and people have never had difficulties distinguishing between "Eminem" and "50 cent". In fact, I think the room for creativity makes it easier, not more difficult, for identifying players. I probably wouldn't remember half the players or their play-styles that I do now if they used authentic names.

Why: To make it less complicated/more streamlined for people who watch to get to know who plays where.

Is it really so, though? It's pretty much impossible to see the names on the jerseys during play. On some jerseys it's even hard to see the number. The only time they really pop up is after a goal. Before the puck drops the names that are visible are actually PSN usernames, so in a sense it would be more streamlined and less confusing if the player names matched the PSN usernames.

No. I edited the poll to say "actual/realistic". If you want to hide your real identity, just come up with a regular name.

Alright, well that solves the data security issue. On the other hand, you wouldn't believe what kind of names exist in reality. For example, Tarzan is a legit first name in Finland.. 😀

  5. I hope it works out, but as it stands there seems to be quite a few questions open regarding the organization and the promises it makes. I don't want to be a douche, but having been both on the wrong and right side of things over the years -- from empty promises to outright faked sponsorship deals, I've learned it's better to be safe than sorry. So, in the sake of anyone who's interested in the project, I'd like to ask a few questions.

    1. Regular bootcamps: Where would they be and who pays for them?

    2. Sponsorship:  Do you mean some sort of gear or merchandise? Who are your business partners?

    3. Professional eSports contracts: Professionalism implies a salary or a reward system. Is that a correct assumption? Again, who pays?

    4. Professional analysis of gameplay: Who or what does the analysis?

I understand it is a new project, but making big promises while not having a web site, no info on management/staff nor any info on business partners, it feels.. dodgy.

I get your point Kenu, really... But you guys are doing an amazing job to help us having a crazy entertaining way of playing. You spent hours, days, weeks and monthes to create, tjink, create again and so on to release what is probably the most dynamic league in the world.

But all the job you do men gets just killed by this shitty matchmaking (and it goes like this since the early beta). I'm not even talking about the gameplay actualy, some will like it, some others not, that's the deal. But damned, this matchmaking issue is a 1st grade year matter for a dev.......

This kind of fact could (i say COULD) kill the ECL

I sympathize with your discontent. Two hours to get two games going is not acceptable. I wouldn't spend a dime nor play the game if it wasn't for club games / ECL, so it certainly sucks to have that kind of issues in the game. That being said, I haven't experienced that much problems with the matchmaking since the patch. A dressing room error once in a while but but I can't even remember when was the last time we would've had it happen twice in a row. Can you specify what kind of problems you experienced last night? Was it related to challenge club (private) games specifically? I would be happy to help if possible.

As for the discussion on recycling the game yearly with a 70€ fee, well, it sucks big time but such is the world we live in. I assume EA has to pay the license fee for the NHL yearly and it probably makes up a major part of their expenses for making the game. They have a monopoly on this niche market; they know it and they exploit it. While the player base could, if it wanted to, for example boycott the new game and play one version for two years at a time, it is not a very realistic scenario. The only solution with real and possibly permanent implications would be that another game studio started developing another hockey game. The NHL license would probably stick with EA since it is the richest game publisher in the world and thus they'd hold an advantage on the market for casual players. I don't think the EASHL player base much cares for official licenses, but it would still need to grow a lot to become sufficient in size to be able to make it viable economically.

Yes, I can read, that why I asked: What are the consequences of this action. It just says it's not allowed

Unfortunately that's a general problem of the rulebook. Only three or so different offenses have a defined punishment for said actions. Everything else is simply "not allowed".

Out of curiosity: Was Pelimies ever asked if he actually wanted to be an assistant captain? I feel that's a point that will tip the scales one way or another.

  8. Hei,

Meillä on tällä hetkellä iso osa staffia Turun turnauksessa. Menen tänään itsekin sinne paikalle ja nostan siellä asian esille. Kiitos ilmoituksesta. Lähettäkää mahdolliset screenshotit turnausadminille valmiiksi, niin nopeutuu käsittely. Thanks!

  9. As sort of a response to an excellent piece by a ghostwriter in Northern Ascendancy (read here), Kattiautomaatti decided to transcribe the events of the recent NHLGamer Sex Scandal.

A shot from the blue-line, such a value bet.

The game is paused, as the puck hits the net.

Cheering for their first goal, all but one soul.

Jersey number fourty-four, completing his chores.

Down on his knees, dreamin' of whores on all-fours,

Forgetting time, place, space and game-scores.

I guess this is what TIKI TALK does to you,

Start thinking her waving was a sexual cue.

There he was all-alone in the corner,

Hoping her to take care of his boner.

The referee called it an illegal type of wrist-shot

No matter if she's hot and you top the hot-or-not.

    Besides, you can't score with that sherwood;

It's a hockey-rink, not your messed up hood.

Finally even fourty-four started to realize,

The pixels on her face weren't real eyes.

A beautifully prepared piece by our own cultivated virtuouso, one that is surely bound to rival even the greats of the literary world...

     - "The mildew is back on the walls..." we should really get that checked out some time...

The puck is dropped, as play begins.

Each team vying, for hard-earned wins.

    Captains and sticks, synchronously clash,

The puck comes loose, hordes pursue with dash.

    Well positioned iSvamp, takes control,

To defend and assist, his duty and goal.

A crisp pass takes the puck, to the left side,

    Where two giants, suddenly collide.

For a split moment, there's an eternal mess.

Possessions rotate, like in a game of chess.

    iSvamp was skating, exceptionally fast,

The game was ending, a few seconds would last.

Preparing for the shot, he fell as he slipped,

Hitting the ice, his front teeth got chipped.

It looked like he just, forgot how to skate.

But how is this possible? just turned twenty-eight.

He looked like a mushroom, wearing red and white,

Picked up the puck, and began to bite.

His teammates realized, he forgot to take his pills,

    Which explained his madness,

and his last year, lack of skills.

The doctor came out, and realized for sure.

That a Elite trophy, is the only cure.

Damn, that was rock solid. Had a beat on the background and spat it through -- worked marvels. Looking forward to more!

  11. It's a rare sight to see such a motivated, hard-working blue-collar-bird for just 9 euros a day. I mean, the bird can hardly keep off the ice! One often hears about the home team having an extra player -- this bird finally showed me what it actually means.

  12. New F1 2016 league is about to begin!

Happy to see there's a lot of interest for a new F1 league. The objective is to start within two weeks time and to have a minimum of 15 cars on the grid. Full season, no assists, 50% races. Qualification format needs to be discussed and decided upon. Initially I've thought of Sunday as race day.

Confirmed community members joining if parameters above are met:

    @Anbtbl, @Crisu_rottis, @Erkki, @janbonator, @Joonas Paatiala, @jursti89, @Nampa77

    Status open:

    @Anenthran, @FaithVvanco, @Snapster

Furthermore we have some guys joining who are not members here yet.

There's still room for more racers. Would be fantastic to have a full grid! Drop a message in this thread, or send me a pm here or on PS4 if you have any questions or would be interested in joining.
