  1. The Frostbite-hype started years ago. It's always the players, not the devs, who talk about it and seem to wait it like it was the next Santa Claus. At best, you might have read or heard some EA-guy say "we'll look into it", which in PR-language translates to "No".

As noted above by Pschibra, a new engine doesn't guarantee a better game-play. Especially in a title that is recycled yearly it will probably cause a lot of bugs and glitches. Why change the cow when you can still milk the old one?

I believe the main reason why many players would like to see a new engine is that it would offer something different. The game would change without a doubt. After nth year of the same power forward meta many players would just like to have something different, and I can't blame them. The changes could be made without a new engine but it would take deliberate decisions and actions from the dev-team to do so, whereas with a new engine it would merely be a consequence.

To me, the changes and new features look very cosmetic. If that stuff took a year to develop, I wouldn't hold my breath for a new engine within the next decade.

It's really strange too that they go into such detail with places like the Isle of Man and Guernsey since they're in a way 'owned' by the UK.

Indeed. Placing UK between France and Georgia in a list that is purportedly in alphabetical order kind of tops it off.

    REALLY?!

Russians dont be able to play also here....... this is S***!

That is pretty messed up. I mean they included some tax havens comprising of a rock and a mail box, as well as a country in Asia (Turkey), but no Russia or Ukraine?

But hey, the Pope can take part!

I like the idea. In my opinion the blocked shots stat is broken though and it only counts when you're laying down. I block shots, but the game says I had like 0 blocks in several hundred games. :)

Definitely a stat that I appreciate, though, so let's see how it works for 18.

It's quite weird actually. During the game it might show that you have 4 blocks, but after the game it's usually 0.

  5. Overall, to me it looks quite a messy situation, and that's what you generally end up with on matters where the rules rely largely on judgement calls. I feel the ruling in this case is OK. The details can always be argued upon. Replaying the games is an interesting precedent, but to be honest it feels like a much better solution than handing out WOs.

There are a few players involved who've never proved to have an understanding of rules and/or the ability to follow them. I recall a wide sweep with a big-ass banhammer back in the days.

I think subjective evaluation is fine for individual awards. I mean, even in real life advanced stats don't tell the whole story on players so I have very serious doubts that you guys would be able to come up with a satisfactory automated way to pick award winners.

And before you (or anyone really) say that I'm not being consistent with my views about divisions where I want an automatic system, it's different. I like automated processes but I don't believe it is possible to accurately rank players. I'm perfectly consistent. Also the voting process can be engaging and fun for people.

I liked the system from a few years ago where teams would appoint their nominee for each award and then team representatives would vote on behalf of their team.

Also congrats again to Nordic Laser Blizzard.

Indeed, the system you proposed for the awards is a good one, and I agree that even advanced statistics do not tell the whole story. Nevertheless, this time we had to work under such time pressure over other obligations that organizing a vote was not possible. Of course, a vote-based system has its problems too -- it can easily turn into a popularity contest instead of objective analysis of performance, just like we can see from our current state of democracies. Not saying it will, but it can. I still like the concept though.

To the next season, i hope there will be more prizes, y'know best defending Center, playmaker prize (most assist), Best defending/Attacking D, best +/- and that kinda things hopely the Admins make these things true in nect season.

    Thank you for your feedback!

After next season the award-system is likely to be modified. I would also like to see an award given to the best defensive forward, as well as separating between the best offensive and defensive defenseman. These awards, however, would need some additional statistics and/or a revamp on how the awards are handed out. For the previous tournament such awards would've required a substantial amount of subjective evaluation, and as such it was deemed not plausible.
