As you (may) know the matchmaking for normal EASHL in EU games is broken. Everybody is stuck on their own server and Central European teams can't get matched up with the Northern and Eastern teams because they are not allowed to connect on the Swedish server anymore - since NOVEMBER! This causes that Finnish and Swedish teams only get matched by themselves, which I guess doesn‘t harm them at all. Honestly, there are not enough central teams that it could even bother you… The thing is, right now the Central and Southern European teams can't compete against the Northern/Eastern European teams, which causes an even wider skill gap as you should be able to train against better or evenly skilled teams/players and different play styles to get better. Also, I was obviously involved in lots of talks over all divisions where Northern/Eastern European teams complained about the ping and server advantage in ECL games. I mean, I really understand that it's pretty shitty if you never play on that ping and server and then have that weird feeling. We‘ve been in the same situation in the past. But we don't care, we would play on SWE server if that means we can finally play competitive games again. So our suggestion would be, for the bigger picture of the competitive European 6vs6 scene, that we try to get a united message to EA, shared via social media and also if they want to do that, via the Game Changers. We‘ve been in contact, but there have been no real responses from EA. We know that they are aware of the problem, but otherwise They should fix the matchmaking so that we match each other again, so that that we can practice against other teams, other servers. And remember, this problem came up in November, even before the German server existed - it just doesn‘t make any sense. For example: For the past 6 months the Phantoms, ZSC Esports, Shooting Stars and all other Central teams couldn't play any Northern/Eastern Elite/Pro/Lite teams - only German, Czech, Slovak and French where the average skill of the teams is probably Neo - Lite. This isn't meant to be disrespectful to any of these squads, but those extremely one-sided games just don‘t make sense for anybody. And yeah, we‘re aware that the servers have been an advantage in ECL this season, but what's the point if we can never play competitive games outside of the ECL. We also lost two of our better players because there is no motivation for them to demolish Neo teams every day - no disrespect again. If this doesn't work, and EA still won't fix it or give any responses we only have one other option: Ask you to put the server location to „relaxed“ for a while when you are searching for regular EASHL games to see if that makes a difference. We got matched up with TIKI TALK once and they had that setting. Most games would probably be on the German server, but maybe teams could manage to play like 1-2 games a week on worse connection? We understand that this is a huge request and it's fair if you are going to say no, but we have to try. Some players said it wasn't that bad of a connection - guess it just depends where you live. If we would play on the Swedish server we would take that as well for sure. So we‘ll do a poll and you guys could also share your thoughts here - would your team be open to trying that? Selecting servers would still be the best option obv., and it would create more fairness in ECL-matchups since these are 2-game-series. Also, home ice would mean something in the playoffs. Thanks for reading @Mannheimer1938 & @Timasy15 points

You made a lot of good observations in your post, but I think it's important to underline that the intent (from what I understand) in the original post is not about forcing anyone, but more of an "can we please cooperate once in a while so that more teams can get quality games". In my opinion it's not a given that the smaller market will grow if they feel there are too many obstacles to actually compete. That's why they put talented kids to play with older age groups if they're having too much of an easy time in their own - playing close to your limits is what keeps your progress up.2 points

Cant agree more on what you describe here. Even if our team is not part of the « top team » it’s so frustrating to play the same team day after day...How is it possible to prepare your ECL the best way as possible when facing 1st day a northern team and playing on 50ms if you can’t practice during training session ( same thing when northern team face central team and playing on our servers)? today it’s a f**** lottery and you just have to pray playing on your servers that’s make no sense! Is there any solution atm? Yeah. why 6’s is not using the same matchmaking as HUT where everybody can match against everybody. Why not using a ranking like they are using in « Rivals » when matching most of the time someone around your level. There are solutions for sure but now everybody from the eashl community as to say something about the actual situation about servers issues. Those are my points. Thx @Mannheimer1938 @Timasy for the topic2 points

In my opinion it's a matter of the player base just growing larger so playing in the Central/Western Europe isn't so tedious. Our team is Spanish. Every time we log in to play, if we search best game location, and at prime time (around 8PM), it takes a good long minute to find a game. This isn't much of an issue, there just aren't that many teams on. Instead if I play with some team from Finland or Sweden, it takes 20 seconds to find a game. I can live with this though. However if you move out of the prime time, the average search time is 5-7 minutes I'd say and most of the time we have to settle with playing against 1 or 2 bots, or CPU goalie. We try to search 'relaxed' to get matched against Finnish teams, but if these teams don't search Relaxed too, we end up cancelling a game because the game matched us with an american team we have connection issues with. This is frustrating and tedious. You can't force northern europe teams to search relaxed. The difference, I have experienced, is going from 33 or so ping in best game location, to 55 or so ping playing in northern europe. Enforcing teams to play outside of their best location doesn't seem like the best idea, top teams love to play fast and ping is so crucial here, they would be mad to have to play at 40 ping instead of 10 simply because the player base in central and western europe isn't so big. It's not fair, but Northen Europe teams aren't to blame and should not pay for that with a worse ping. So it's a problem that doesn't have an easy solution other than waiting for the player base in these regions to get bigger. The only fix I can think of is making 'relaxed' location search less wide. It's stupid that you have so many different regions, and the option is instead a binary between 'absolute best game location or play the lottery' and this is what needs fixing, the inability to search in regions where you don't have the best connection, but it's still playable.2 points

NHLGamers, Today is a special day. As elven queen Lady Galadriel put it in Peter Jackson’s cinematic masterpiece The Lord of the Rings; “I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air.”. Today is the day when ECL Elite completes its quarterfinal stage and we get down to the final four contenders for the crown of ECL Grand Champion. The teams referred to as “The Big Two” in Part I of our Season Preview, HAVU Gaming and Linköping HC, both swept their quarterfinal series 4-0 against BRAYCE Phantoms and Roots, respectively. With that, last season’s finalists are already back in the semifinals. Now who will join them? Färjestad BK - JYP Jyväskylä SERIES SCORE 3-1 TOP SCORER Andreas @affelj96 Ljungberg (5+1=6) vs Antti @tbnantti Kuittinen (1+5=6) GOALTENDER Johan @Rundqviiist Rundqvist (3 W, 85,11 SV%, 1,75 GAA, 0 SO) vs Oskari @sibeelius Grönroos (1 W, 70,37 SV%, 2 GAA, 1 SO) This series has the makings of an upset as 8th seed Färjestad BK has pushed regular season winners JYP Jyväskyla to the brink of elimination. Up 3-1 in the series, FBK has set themselves up with three separate match points – to borrow a tennis term – and will look to close out the series early tonight against JYP. FBK took a commanding 2-0 series lead on the first game day of the series. JYP came back to win Game 3 but series standout Andreas @affelj96 Ljungberg made sure to bring Game 4 back in FBK’s camp, scoring the deciding 3-2-goal with mere seconds remaining of the third period. JYP has struggled to get their powerful offense going, with left-winger Kristian @kriketski17 Veijola even abandoning his patented Grinder build; the build that saw him lead the regular season in hits, to try his luck as a smaller Sniper. So far, FBK:s defense and goaltender Johan @Rundqviiist Rundqvist has stood tall. Employing a similarly powerful build to kriketski's original, FBK right-winger Sebastian @eBasstian Nagel has made it his personal mission to hit everything and everyone in sight – making it tough for JYP's offensive-minded defenders Aaro @xDoumi Ruuhinen and Ilmari @iilmarii Töyrylä to navigate through the neutral zone. In the end, a lot has come down to affelj in this matchup. From the timely game-deciding goals to the constant threat of him sneaking in behind JYP's defense, the tiny Swedish Sniper has been the biggest thorn in JYP's side through the first four games of the series. Will we see the upset completed tonight? Or will JYP re-discover their offense and find it within themselves to turn the series around? Unlucky Boys HC - hREDS SERIES SCORE 2-2 TOP SCORER Antti @Anhel Kuru (3+2=5) vs Niklas @NikkeDangles Tukiainen (2+6=8) GOALTENDER Ville @Viltzup Poutiainen (2 W, 78,72 SV%, 2,5 GAA, 0 SO) vs Niklas @uhNikke Nieminen (2 W, 87,5 SV%, 1,5 GAA, 1 SO) With the exception of Game 2 where hReds walked all over Unlucky Boys to the tune of a 6-1 win, this series has been a real nail-biter. UB took home Game 1 in overtime, hReds took Game 3 off a beautiful deciding goal with less than a minute remaining from Joakim @Joukki Nyholm and with Game 4, we saw overtime once again. On the powerplay, Julius @Exel56 Rissanen snuck down from his spot as left defender and delivered a crushing slapshot to the top corner off an intelligent feed from right-winger Tim @Timasy Hess, ending hReds hopes to go up 3-1 in the series. We know the matchup tonight will feature at least two games between these teams. We can’t say for sure if the games will be close or not but based on how the series has gone thus far it’s a pretty safe bet. We might even see three games; wouldn’t that be something? Regardless if there is a Game 7 or not, these teams have given it everything they’ve got and will continue to do so all the way to the end. Today will be a special day. I can smell it in the air. Now let's drop the puck and play some hockey. Tune in for all the action starting tonight at 20:00 CEST over at www.twitch.tv/nhlgamer, alternatively ISTV, and Ruutu for our Finnish viewers.1 point

NHLGamers, All of us surely appreciate the progress our beloved NHLGamer platform has made. Recently, before the start of ECL 10, quite a few longtime squads got signed by team/Esports organizations, which obviously is a big step forward on that front. The battle at the top of Elite has been tremendous this season, with JYP Jyväskylä and hREDS challenging top teams Linköping HC and HAVU Gaming, but there are quite a lot of good teams and players in the shadow of those powerhouse clubs, creating a extremely tight playoff battle. Today, we want to take a closer look. Now it’s time to get to know the ECL’s Elite. It’s been a while since the first time we did one of our Player Profile-articles, which had Lauri @Lamsa Lämsä in the starring role. The former Rusty Blades winger will now be succeeded by Simon @PlaymakerSJ Junker. You probably know that name already, and if not, that’s on you. Simon has been around since ECL1, where he played for UKnighted HC and finished Top Five in scoring with 66 points in 23 games. The left-handed Center then put up 34 points in 13 playoff contests, but UKnighted couldn’t get past well known Synergy Hockey in the quarterfinals. Simon didn’t participate in ECL2 and ECL3 due to scheduling issues, but then came back for the fourth season and he’s been active ever since. After having stints with Germany’s Finest and Inter Iceland, he ultimately joined Deadly Phantoms HC. The german team formed by @Rayman just got promoted to ECL Pro at the time and Playmaker immediately raised the level of play. His calming presence lead the team to a playoff spot in their inaugural Pro season, where the team lost to powerhouse FILADELPHIA (now Linköping) in the second round of the postseason. The team made a couple new additions for ECL7, Playmaker stayed. He led his club in scoring once again and this time the Phantoms were actually deadly and secured the Pro title as well as the promotion to ECL Elite. He then cemented his status as the best german center in the scene, torching the national opposition in GCL3 with 120 points in only 23 matches. Especially in the german scene Simon created his special wraparound and well known move called "Der Junker“ – (Junker is his last name). The Phantoms then became the first ever german team to participate in ECL Elite and surprised quite a lot of people with their fourth-place finish. This time around, Playmaker was the second best scorer on the Phantoms while maintaining his ridiculously strong Two-Way-Game. "I think that I have a good understanding of the game. I have been playing at a high level for a few years now and I demand a lot from myself. In addition, I have already played with many different wingers, which allows me to adapt to almost all types of players“, the 25 year-old explained his success. "...And I am very strong at the push-faceoff. Connor @MartindalexC Martindale can confirm that“, he added. A while ago, as you may have noticed, the Deadly Phantoms became the BRAYCE Phantoms after agreeing to a cooperation with the sports merchandising company. PlaymakerSJ played a big role in that development with his consistent play over the last few years. Phantoms-Captain Mannheimer said: "Simon raised our level of play and our creativity. With his patience, he is an absloute weapon in the offensive zone and still great defensively.“ After a tough go in ECL 9, where the club actually got relegated in a hard-fought-series over seven games against Vesa Pompa, but later retained their Elite-spot in the qualification series, the roster has changed quite a bit. Long-time member Maximilian @gzell60 Käsmaier announced his retirement , which lead to Niklas @xXPsykoSkillsXx Schmitz stepping up in a bigger role. Also new addition Stephan @Krinke Krinke has emerged into a capable goalscorer in his inaugural season in Europes top division after a spot in the offense opened up. Simon is still there, leading the team to a solid bounce back season - right now, the Phantoms are fighting in the playoffs after reaching the playoffs for the second time in their third ECL Elite campaign. And after years of being disadvantaged, they finally have the servers on their side as well! Personally, the Neuss-native is still living in that area, working in Dusseldorfs District Government of Market Surveillance. Unlike his stats on NHLGamer, that sounds extremely boring. With 350 goals, 516 assists and 866 points, Playmaker currently sits in sixth place of NHLGamers All-Time-Points list across all competitions, and there is still more to come.1 point

The wonderful Nick @f5penguin Dimeo and Drew “Farbsy” Goldfarb led the stream with an amazing intro and interview. Afterwards, we were lucky enough to have the one and only James Cybulski, the voice of NHL20 to call play by play for game 1 of the series. Following that game the tandem of Cody @Tougie24 Tougas and Paul @Cyn Anderson graced us with their play by play and color commentary. If you missed that action, you can watch it again here: We'd like to thank all of our players and everyone who's tuned in to watch the NACL!
