We should have more captains who have knowledge of players in this community, mostly elite people i guess. Ive seen that many of those players wont be a captain because of dutys. At the same time they will be watching whole 6h live draft stream and being daily active on the forums. You could handle those dutys without taking extra time from yourself, step in guys, this tourney needs you.14 points

I think a system like in suggestion 1 serves the purpose better, a COMMUNITY event that aims to bring everybody closer to each other. Is it perfect? Maybe not, but big step in the right direction. Some kind of system where you have clear ´divisions´ could be even better for the ultimate goal where as many players get to play as much as possible, lite division and pro/elite together, something like that? Or could just be Lite and the normal SC, users can then choose where they sign up. (Some rules might be needed on who can join the lite version, normal is open to everyone) ´Newer´ players more than likely have a better time - more games, against similar skill level teams/players or at least closer to it. Pro/Elite division players same thing, higher quality games and maybe you see more movement between divisions when new connections are being made. Unfortunately, kinda pointless at least in my opinion to take part if it´s the same setup as in previous years, it´s more like European Championship - summer edition than something that is made to bring new users into bigger spotlight and promote positive community vibes. Don´t have to take the magic eight ball out to guess what will happen - it´s the top-level players together and rest play the minimum. Of course, there are only so many positions, only so many can play at once and not everybody can play a lot even if they wanted to, but more could be done to make the whole SC experience more enjoyable for all parties involved. At the moment the idea is great, lets have good time and meet new players from all over and with different experience levels on EASHL, but in reality it´s bit like beer league football on Sunday, you have the group that is all about that - to have fun and just play, maybe new players come in every Sunday to try it out, but then when Sunday comes, the other group you play against is out there running as fast as they can, slide tackling and playing like the championship is on the line. What happened, I thought this was beer league football? ´Oh yea - I can´t hear you, we are winning´. It´s not that you should not take it seriously and play for the win, but that same ´try hard´ mentality can be seen here on how the teams are built, who plays and how much.13 points

Well im not going to participate anyways, but from my experience having selected by a captain that plays in lite or nowhere (= having a little to zero knowledge about players) didnt exactly elevate my motivation with their questionable picks. And having the #1 format would be quite heavily leaning to that happening again. So yeah maybe i take this tourney too serious and the SC isnt for me but thats how i think7 points

Come on vata, you've already won eSM and ECL Elite, why can't you let scrubs like me win something for once?6 points
-
I feel like summercup is more to have fun and get to know with other players than your own ECL teammates, atleast this is how i have taken it, but also everyone can understand the other side of this, everyone wants to get picked by elite player rather than lite. I do hope that someday we can have all of the captains from 1 division (elite or pro) and then there would be more knowledge about players within captains, but this would require activity from high tier players.5 points

Alternative options? I have one. There are four categories: others(who did no play last ECL), Lite, Pro and Elite. First is drafted others and lite. These should be drafted fast using pre-draft orders from captains. Then one by one picking from pro category, the ones relegated from pro and promoted from lite included. After this it is turn for ECL Elite players and Pro promoted to Elite. Noticed there are some players from Elite for example who are away lot or playing "wrong" position. These players are still in their category based on level. Captains duty to make sure who are playing what pos and how much. This way the whole draft is interesting to follow for majority ofcthe players. No offence on the ones regulary going in last rounds, but in that point everyone is already chatting on whatsapp/discord with their new team mates, not really following draft anymore. And this way there would be evenly "top", "middle" and "lower" level players in every team. But still the captains who know what they are doing will be able to gather a good team easily. And less chance to "Fuck up" things. I dunno, just an alternative idea.5 points

Hey NHLGamers! Many of you have been asking for it, and here we are - delivering. The Summer Cup has been a very nice tradition for three consecutive years already, bringing the community together and giving us something to play for during the summer months. This year has been a bit different in the sense that interest around NHL gaming is ramping up and we've been hosting a number of great leagues and tournaments including live events - with more to come. Therefore we made the decision to postpone the start of our beloved casual tourney. Despite the delay, the Summer Cup is now here! Due to community feedback we will be suggesting altering some aspects of this iteration, mainly with the drafting in order to ensure a more even spread of talent throughout the teams in the tournament. For the draft, we will be giving you guys two alternatives to choose between, we'll be implementing the more popular one. Our suggestions are: 1. Captains will be seeded into baskets based on perceived skill level (based on previous season - Elite, Pro or Lite). During the first two rounds captains get to pick one player from each of the two divisions that they do not represent. (In the case of the player representing a team that was relegated from or promoted to Elite at the end of ECL 8, the player will be interpreted as an Elite player). 2. Keep it as it has been in the past - no restrictions apply to the drafting. Please submit your votes/opinions in the comments section. What is the Summer Cup? The Summer Cup is a draft-type league aimed at both experienced community members and complete rookies. The stated goal of this tournament is to improve networking within the community and introduce new players to the great world of NHLGamer. Our Summer Cup is always a great venue for prospects to open up doors for entry into the upcoming ECL season. The same promise remains for season 4, only this time we’ll deliver better! Last year over 400 players took part in our tournament, which were drafted in a quite nice fashion (compared to some other years 😅) during the live stream. As always, we will need a good number of volunteer captains that are up for the challenge, so please consider your availability to act as a Summer Cup captain. Similarly to last summer, we will not be having any prizes for this season. We’ve received valuable feedback from our community members and based on this, the decision was made that a Summer Cup without prizes will best serve the original purpose of the tournament – to increase networking and allow new players entry to our community. SUMMER CUP 4 FRAMEWORK Team building: No more than 2 players from a single ECL 8 team are allowed to play on the same Summer Cup team. This rule applies to the final rosters, after transfers and free agents. Team names: The Summer Cup will be played in dedicated EASHL teams which will have "NG" as a prefix - for example "NG Golden Knights". Sign-ups: To rule out unfortunate circumstances when it comes to player positioning, holidays and other aspects, the sign-ups will follow a clear structure, allowing captains to recognize fitting players more easily. Draft procedure: The team captains will be taking part in a snake draft, where all of the signed up players will be drafted during one night. LEAGUE DETAILS Summer Cup Season 4 will take place on the PS4 version of NHL 19. Last day to sign up is Saturday 3rd of August 2019. Players sign up using the registration tool linked at the bottom of the post. Due to the latency issues experienced by the North American players in Summer Cup 2, Summer Cup 4 is only for European players. All signed up players are aimed to be seeded into teams with a size of 10 players (may vary). Out of all registrations, NHLGamer Staff will select an according number of team captains from the players that offered to take on a captaincy role in their sign-up post - anyone is allowed to apply for it. Team captains will receive a draft sheet on Sunday 4th of August, containing all signed up players and relevant information in a structured form. Team captains will be taking part in a live draft event on Sunday 4th of August picking their roster until all players are seeded. The draft will be streamed live on our Twitch channel. All games are played 6vs6 using dedicated EASHL teams. The Summer Cup is set to start on the week of August 5th and aimed to be finished before the release of NHL 20. Full rules will be released after the registration is over. HOW TO PARTICIPATE To participate, make sure you are logged in or create an account first, visit the sign-up page and fill in all fields of the registration form like below - make sure the player positions in your Player Card are up-to-date so captains know who they are drafting! You can update your Player Card on the "Edit Player" page. Sign-up page: Click here! Let's make this year's Summer Cup at least as memorable as the previous ones! Looking forward to seeing you on the ice!4 points

There is... ECL SCL FCL GCL RCL eSM NACL Spring League. whats common with all of these leagues? You can play with who ever you want to (with some limitations on nationalities). now we have an idea. Make summer cup exactly the same because those leagues aint enough.🤭4 points

Well, if you're not Elite level, then I guess you are not fit for Elite in season 9. 🤷♂️😅 Joking aside, feel free to suggest otherwise - this was just the way we thought it should be, as you will be playing Elite or did play Elite depending on the scenario. This helps make the pool of Elite players bigger as well.4 points

Wtf thats totally bs, its common sense that if you dont play even single game in elite you cant be considered as elite player, cmon nhlgamer this aint so hard.. #RIPKesäkulta4 points

That was one sweaty desert drive! Congratulations to Juunas for the win. The qualifying had the top 6 within a tenth or so if I remember correctly and it set up a great race from the get-go. I managed to keep the lead at the start and was feeling good with the first 9 lap stint on the softs. Bad news was the miscommunication between me and Jeff on the Alpha pit wall. He wanted me to go with two stops and I wanted one, so in a Ferrari-esque move I ended up having the mediums instead of hards for the 2nd stint. Until the last four laps or so I managed to keep up the gap but then the tires just melted under me and had little hope of defending the lead as I struggled to keep the car on track, so my hopes rested on the possible penalties for the guys charging from behind. Finished the race with tire wear at 90% and under 3s off the lead, but unfortunately for me they'd had a clean race. Really enjoyed that one and looking forward to Canada =]3 points

Just saying, I undertand both options but only way to build this big is to lean to ”hardcore” aka elite players wishes, im just saying that some elite players dont want to join if there is this scenario 1, newbies are joining for fun whatever the system is. Some players are playing more competive than anothers so thats why I hope you guys (nhlgamer) give elite players chance to play more enjoyable hockey with some another elite players. If scenario two gives the advantage to play with more same lvl players (im not 100% thats case) To those players who are playing just for fun only thing I can say is that in competive community we cant go with ”just for fun or lets try something new” additude. Either way sc is always a fun tournament to play so just lets have fun more serious or not but plz pick the scenario 2! thx. Bye.2 points

I like the short distance passing. Works much better than in previous titles. That's about it. Rest is pretty, pretty shitty tbh lol1 point
-
Same old. Tested it, but not my favourite. N/A N/A N/A Regular passes to short distance are better than last year. Longer distance passes don`t correlate with the time you are pressing the R2. Saucer worked. Half of the goals were bounces, from own player (bad pick-up animations) or just randoms. N/A N/A N/A All the ”bigger D-man classes” were not as good. Twd was slow, bad agility even at the smallest build. Changing that to puck moving D did not change that much. Checking/hitting is difficult as a Dman. Going closer to opponent with a left stick and making the hit from the side often does not work, player hits bords. You had to be really precise with the hitting, and when you managed to hit, it did not necessarily lead to anything. Opponent just bumped and continued. Poke was ok, but it is annoying when you hit the puck with a good poke and the puck bounces back to same opponent. In some positions you could also poke from behind, which sucks. More than half of the times one-timer did not work instantly. Also pass interception animations were a bit weard. F. Ex Since when you actually cut off a pass, when your back is towards the puck? Overall the gameplay felt like ”mailaviidakko”. Players I tried felt a bit clumsy. Now I think if you cover your goal front with your players, there is non pass coming through, at all. So if you just wait and be passive, no more nice one-timers. Vice versa, Good thing is no more L2 + X. I couldn’t care less. N/A Online Vs. Depending on your opponents ping, behaviour was something between good to hilarious. Depending on your opponents ping, behaviour was something between good to hilarious. Skating N/A Hitting (Collision Physics), somehow easier than in 6vs6 with no AI. Pokechecking pretty much same as in 6vs6 Shooting, pretty much same as in 6vs6 Offensive Play (i.e. how did it feel to play offense? How easy was it? Was there a skill gap? Were there limitations?) N/A Defensive Play (i.e. how did it feel to play defense? How easy was it? Was there a skill gap? Were there limitations?) N/A, regarding eashl, read para 9 and 23. Human Goalies in EASHL..N/A The new presentation and scoreboard (if you're having problems with it, let us know if you did the configuration properly when starting the beta for the first time) scoreboard location...and it`s blinking.....bad. Other (anything not covered here) liked beta 19 much more than this. I’m not Elite-level, but not X- or poke spammer either. Somehow it felt useless as a D-man to try to be active in own end with hitting and stuff. Passive Area defence seemed to be better alternative. And It felt partly like you are basically ”trying to run with your rubberboots on”.1 point
-
Could you please make other defencemen playable than the smallest ones? Unable to tackle, lift stick or pokecheck. And remove holes of goalies chests? Onceagain, made only for attackers, and matches with 10+ goals a game easy. More buggygoals than ever. EASHL more unbalanced than ever. Yeas its pretty as young Crosby, but thats about most icehockey it gets.1 point

1 Also any league after beta is not a good idea. People don't want to open the old version after seeing new and better.1 point

I won't participate mostly for same reasons as l_loimu_l, but if you want even tournament you single out tier 1 and 2 players and distripute them to teams by choice made by a group1 point

Well i enjoy more playing with better players so idk does it help that teams would be more equal to eachother but worse overall considering what i prefer. But anyways thats why i dont participate1 point

If we have played the SC with the same rules for three years in a row and there have clearly been some issues, how the change is going to "heaviny lean" into that same result again? The number one reason for the new draft format was the exact same you guys are writing about. Teams being unbalanced because of captains of some teams might not be that aware of the level of players he can draft. Now for an example, with this format the Lite captain is forced to draft one guy from Elite and one guy from Pro. In the previous drafts there have been lots of cases where the "Lite captain" has ruined his team in the first three rounds of the draft -> rip moti for those guys who know little bit more about the game and community than his future captain. Now all teams will start from the same line, having certain basic structure for the draft. Atleast it will be closer to that than before. Obviously you can't say it's going to be 100% that way but in my eyes, this new format should help with this problem compared to the old format where the captain could do whatever he ever wanted. The result with that format was too many saunakaveri picks in the first rounds of the draft. In the end it's not going to be that much different, really. It's just about having atleast three different level players in every team when the 3rd round of the draft starts. Oh and by the way if it means anything to anyone - I've enjoyed the previous tournaments. But it can't hurt to try something new, to make it even more balanced and fun tournament for every player.1 point

This would solve the problem pretty much but it's understandable why there's not that much Elite captains in Summer Cup. Then again some of the guys are talking about the problem like there's no solution for it - but there is. Read above. I'd be captain this summer but the draft day, well actually the whole weekend, is a huge no for me so :(.1 point
-
A week has gone by so it's time for another wet hotlap. This time it was Hungaroring (replacing Bahrain) in a Red Bull.1 point
-
Yeah it's pretty even right now, 19 for 1 and 13 for 2. The rest not commenting dont care, I dunno? Both are fine because well, the SC is not that serious hockey after all. But personally I'd like to see some change after three, same kind of tournaments. Obviously it's not changing the whole format but I really think that the Elite/Pro/Lite system would bring new taste for the SC and make the tournament even more balanced than before, which would be nice. Some (mostly elite) players reached me during the previous Cups (even though I wasn't in the NG Staff) about the bullshit that happens when he gets drafted to the team where the captain is maybe not that aware of the community. Result? They saw their team in the draft -> rip moti. And this is no bullshit, this has happened to lots of guys, and you dont have to be even Elite player to get into this situation. Option #2 is not an end of the world but... it's Summer Cup. Like, it's not hurting anyone to try something new once a year. If there's any and I mean any kind of new ideas, bring em to the table.1 point
