  1. I'm laying in my bed, girlfriend snoring, can't sleep because i'm thinking of what a bad day of gaming we had today. I don't know was it just me trying to adjust in my new position as center or was it just the team that was unfocused. I don't know, it was just one of those nights. At around 2 am i hear the sound of my mail sound buzzing on the phone and i'm thinking, okay, maybe it's the goalie responding to me on NHLGamer. I'm too excited, I jump out of bed and get my phone. The mail was okay, mixed signals with the typical same response, "Sounds good, but I don't know about Lite...". It was the fifth message in two days that started of the same. Very well, I gotta stay positive so I answer politely "Sure, I understand, best of luck mate". The clock is around 2.15am, and I'm thinking okay, I got smoked by Adetikki on draws 2-19 two nights ago so maybe ill look a game of NOR and SKY, two good guys at faceoffs, ade and rhöse. So I watch the games. Now the clock is 2.45 and I need to be at work at 6am. Okay, so I decide go to the gym, while doing gym I go through the mails I've sent to different players during the week, most of them, no response, but sure, they played in the pro division last year so they probably are better at life and don't have time to answer mails coming from a team in Lite. Different thoughts going through my head, how the hell am I supposed to keep the guys happy when I cant fill the whole roster, one of the members lives in the same city. I gotta go to his house today and try to convice him to stay, " don't worry man, just have faith, everything is going to be alright and we will fill our last roster spots and be a contender in Lite ". In somewhat of that are the words I am going to tell him today. I have to do it, this is the second time around i'm trying to get this to work and hopefully he'll buy into this. At around 4.30am i'm back from the gym, drink my morning coffee, I log on to NHLGamer, no notifications, argh. I post a poll in our facebook group, "Play tonight?" it says, I post it almost everyday, I just love playing sixes and the guys I got here love to do it too but I just gotta check if everybodys available tonight. Two weeks ago I was visiting a fellow NHLGamer that I've gotten to know, on the other side of the country with some of my ex teammates. We had a blast, the voices turned into faces and it was like you knew them even though you never seen them before, of course, you talk to someone on party for several months you get to know one another. Some of the same guys stick around, some don't, but ultimately your trying to find those that you like to be in party with, that think the same and are on the same skill level, because if they aren't you are going to feel it every time you do a mistake and that leads to a silence in the party and you just know, I fucked up and he is pissed of at me. You can do it for some time but in a longer period it is going to affect and you don't get back out of that freezer when the other one has labeled you, its raw but that is what competitiveness is all about. Some can handle it, some can't and in the long run you have to find 5 guys that brings the harmony of everyday gaming, it doesn't matter if you screw up, he is not going to think anything less of you, your still friends. Every time we meet a better opponent from Elite or Pro, a fire lights up in the party and everybody gets pumped up, "alright boys, we got this, come on, lets do it". Maybe somehow you get a win, but if you meet these guys 10 times, your going to win max 2 out of 10. So then the next day, we meet a less established Elite team and boom, we get smoked, everybody is feeling sad and worthless and you as a GM are saying something like, no no no, this doesn't mean anything, we just have to get back on that horse tomorrow and continue our practice. But that is the tough part, how do you get the guys motivated and not to leave the team and join some more established team? That is the toughest task I think. There is teams that have stayed together since 2010, respect. I mean, I played the game back then but had not so ever any idea of there being competitive eashl gaming, so it saddens me sometimes to see when new people come to the scene and some people just are being rude and unpolite to them because they are "setelis" and what so ever. I can't see this being any of any benefit because aren't we all here trying to grow the game. Of course, I can't put everyone under this label because my friend, one of the nicest guys I know, a newly crowned winner of ECL Elite has been around the last six months and giving pointers day in and day out, introduced me to some new people and got my name around there. And you know what the funny part about this is? Six months ago I had no clue this guy existed. Of course, everybody can't like everybody, that's life and it is always going to be like that. You can't force anyone to play with someone if they don't want to, because we all are doing this out of the love of the game and obviously you wanna get the full experience of togetherness of playing sixes with guys you enjoy being around with. I certainly do not like everybody, and I am pretty sure my finnish accent when I am trying to speak swedish annoys the shit out of some people, but you know that's life. I am going to make a resolution for the upcoming year, I am going to try to be more nice to people around the community no matter what skill level they are on and I wanna put out a couple of extra thank yous to players around the scene who everyday makes me glad being part of this experience. @Casper, @cHIIMEERa, @Kenu, @The_Alpha_Furyan, @Zalaz, @pajenc, @Bjono and those one I forgot. Best regards, chavelski

  2. BREAKING NEWS: NHLGamer Admin Janbonator is a Pervert! During our games against Tiki Talk last night, Janbonator dropped to his knees, reached into his pants and starting masturbating furiously while making eye-contact with a frightened woman in the audience. I have the video evidence to back up these horrible accusations. Feel free to let him know in the comments, that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated on the ice. Hockey is a family friendly sport and we intend to keep it that way. /s

  6. Hey guys, just wanted to check in over here to see how things were going on the Euro side of competitive EASHL. I have to say there are a lot of things you guys do differently over here that I think we should pick up on for our competitive club league. We already picked up on the European style points system with W/OTW/OTL/L rather than the usual NHL style. I think it works out a lot better especially in a game like NHL 17 where there isn't a huge skill gap. I get a lot of people on my youtube channel (Between the Pipes) asking about 6v6 leagues for European players and I make sure I point them in the direction of this site (i've only every heard of the ECL). I will be sure to stick around and try and keep up with what's going on over here! Hopefully one day there will be a way to play each other without too much of a delay or even on LAN (lul). Playing Nordic Nightmare on 150 ping isn't very fun Also really glad to see your main player base is on the PS4, it's way better. Just checking in.

  11. First of all, thank you for opening up this discussion. It's always more productive to have an honest discussion than to make assumptions or go by rumours. I will do my best to cover my thoughts below and explain why we operate in the way we do. That is not to say that I think we are doing everything 100% correctly and there isn't room for improvement. Strap in and enjoy(?) the ride - wall of text incoming. Perspective Let me start off by saying that there is a large amount of different perspectives on the topics of how we should approach NHL as an esport, how quickly things have developed and how patient one should be. Our past experiences shape our minds and our ways of thinking and depending on your past, you might think my ideas and views are completely wrong, if they don't resonate with what you believe. If you know my history, heard my interview on the radio, or read about it in our recent article, you might know that I have been in the NHL gaming scene for roughly 18 years now. I've played hockey games since the 8-bit Nintendo, but what I mean about being in the scene, is that I've been in close contact with a lot of people committed to NHL-gaming lifestyle, seen the way the NHL-series producers have interacted with the community and where feedback has and hasn't been listened to. Why do I bring this up? Certainly not to brag about my age - I would much rather prefer to be a kid again - but to offer some perspective on from where we are building this. In the 18 years I've been active in the NHL community, this is easily the closest we've been to seeing the NHL video game as an actual esport. But why hasn't it happen before? Is it because people didn't want to? Is it because the people didn't put in the work? In my opinion, no - it's because the time wasn't right. I'm sure more than a few companies threw a bunch of money on a wall, but it didn't quite stick. Against this background, when looking at what NHLGamer has achieved in less than three years, I can proudly say we (the community) have created something wonderful together, something that can, and will, actually stick. From day one, I have wanted to offer paid leagues, but in my opinion the community wasn't ready for it. Now it is. When thinking about how much can be achieved in a set amount of time, one must also think about how much time can actually be allocated to the task. I worked a very demanding job throughout most of the development of NHLGamer and the ECL, so when I would come home from work, I would spend most of my free time - and often the hours I should've used for sleeping - on working on this website. The same thing applies to the other staff members, who I respect and appreciate immensely for helping out after a long day or week. This is also the reason why most people overestimate the amount of work they're able to chip in with. That's why we've seen a big change in staff over the years. It's time consuming and demanding. Roughly a year ago I decided to quit my job in Malta. It was a good job, good pay, but it was getting between my passion and me. So I quit. In order for NHLGamer to be able to operate, I have - for the past few months - been focusing all of my time and energy on giving NHLGamer and the NHL video game a chance as an esport and there's no turning back for me. If I go back to a regular day job, there is no way I can keep doing what I've been doing recently. Why am I telling you this awfully long story? Because I want you to understand my background and that I really do share the enthusiasm to want to introduce money to NHLGamer and NHL as an esport just as much as many of you do. I've put my heart and soul into the NHL community for 18 years now and NHL gaming is finally starting to get the recognition it deserves. There is no way we're stopping now. Vision Max (@gzell60) explained above quite well what we want to achieve. And before I go into that, let me point out that Max and I (and the rest of the team) don't agree about everything. No, it doesn't mean that we argue and fight - it simply means that we have different views on how certain things should go. So we discuss them together, as a team and eventually it forms a product. Why did I bring this up? Well, for example Max doesn't like the idea of buy-in's as much as I do and I agree with him, that it is easily an approach that creates a closed community and shuts people and teams out. Not everyone wants it. This is why I'm happy to do buy-ins, but it shouldn't be the only thing driving our leagues, as I think it's a quite short-sighted attempt at happiness. You don't need season previews, interviews, stats, streams or any of that to run a buy-in league. But to produce a product that is interesting and approachable to a crowd that isn't necessarily even playing the game themselves - that's where content and the love that we have for the ECL comes in handy. We don't have to fake it, we don't have to do magic tricks. We do however, have to work hard and I know we have in the recent months. We are extremely proud to have signed a two year contract on the Finnish Championship license - called eSM - for NHL and FIFA. We just announced it tonight and you can read our story here: This is an amazing thing for our community and our plans to keep developing the sport and teaching the world about 6vs6. I want to to underline here that the focus is not off ECL. On the contrary, we are talking to potential partners for ECL 7 and about introducing prizes and live finals. So please don't think that we are only planning to cater for the Finnish community. We realize that sadly, not everyone can take part in the Finnish championships, but we are continuously working on different initiatives that will either be something for everybody, or for example for Sweden and other countries, who might feel left out. Keep in mind, our staff is from Finland, Sweden, Germany, Latvia, Britain and France. There's plenty of people internally who want to see things happen in their home country, so rest assured this is an international mission. With eSM 2018 for FIFA taking place already in the summer, it makes sense to talk about it now. Similarly, you will see a lot of Summer Cup communication in the upcoming weeks and months. The communication moving from the ECL to another subject in no way reflects on our work ethic, passion and drive to set up an amazing ECL 7 for NHL 19, but we are also extremely proud of the Summer Cup and the eSM license and they will take the spotlight from time to time, as they should. "But do you realize how annoying it is to not know what is going to happen? Why don't you just tell us everything?" When I think about it, yes. Sometimes it's hard to remember that the community doesn't know what we're up to. Most of the time, actually. So why do I or we do it? Why don't we just tell you every detail about our plans? Well, there's several reasons, but from a customer service perspective and as a general rule in life, I have the mentality of "under-promise, over-deliver" which is a good recipe for pleasant surprises. I've not always been good at this, but that's beyond the point. I don't want to tell you something that I don't know is going to happen. I don't want to promise you something and then have to let you down. That is also why donations weren't introduced to the site early on, even when people suggested it; I wanted to prove that we are worthy of it. Another big reason for being secretive or quiet about things is that until documents are signed and things are made official, negotiations are simply negotiations. It doesn't really matter how close we were to the biggest successful event ever, if it doesn't actually happen. We would rather surprise you positively, than to get your hopes up and then deliver half of what we expected to. Not to mention that it would be super unprofessional to give out information before it's been agreed to, between all parties. In some cases, if you disclose information you were not allowed to and you've signed an NDA (non-disclosure agreement), you could have to pay a large amount for a breach of contract. Not to mention that they would never work with you again. All of the above being said, I do understand getting impatient and worried when nothing is communicated. We will do our best to improve on communication and the ability to share at least something. Feel free to reach out and ask, if that feeling sneaks in. "Umm.. yeah, great, but what about those of us who don't want to play for money?" There's plenty of people that want to play just for fun and don't want to stress over money and we understand that very well. Worry not. We plan to always offer free to play leagues and tournaments. "What about legal issues?" We plan to do everything by the book and follow the law. It is very short-sighted to plan anything else but a legitimate and legal way to handle the money. Taxes will be paid. Remember, this is simply a stepping stone towards professionalism - not a quick cash-grab. Questions from me to you So, the beauty of this community is that we have a lot of great minds with a shared passion for the game. We agree on many things and we have other opinions on other things. Let's use this thread to discuss your hopes, dreams and expectations. I'll start off with a few questions off the top of my head, based on the discussion above. For the sake of the clarity, I will use the term buy-in league, indicating that the teams or players were to pay for entry. NOTE: The below are hypothetical questions and the questions in themselves are in no way a statement to what we will or won't do in the future. Would you join a buy-in league? How much would you be ready to pay for being part of a buy-in league? Would you expect to win this league and regain the money or the full prize? What sort of sum would be acceptable as the prize in the first season of the buy-in league? How would you expect the prize pool to be split between the teams in the league? How long of a season would you expect in a buy-in league? How often would you participate in a buy-in league? If the league was separate from the ECL, would you then prioritize it over the ECL? Do you think ECL should be a buy-in league? Do you think certain divisions should be buy-in, such as ECL Elite? Hypothetically, say ECL Elite and Pro had buy-ins - what would stop an Elite caliber team for signing up for Pro in order to get "an easy" tournament win and prize money? If you are against buy-ins or on the fence about the topic - what would be a small enough amount for you to join and still be able to have fun? That's just a few questions that come to mind around the subject. Feel free to come up with more. If you had the energy to read through the whole thing - thank you! I will return the favor. TL;DR: Money leagues are coming, but we are also not forgetting about members who don't want to play for money. Please discuss your expectations, so we can do our best to exceed them. Together we are strong. ⚔️

  18. ECL 5 Pro Playoffs - FCM report I'd like to start off by thanking all the viewers who tuned in to CoalMinersTV on Twitch for Games 1-3 on Sunday, helping us set a new record for number of simultaneous viewers (47) and pushing us past the 50-limit when it comes to subscribers (51). A big 'ol thank you to everyone out there As you may have seen, things didn't quite turn out the way we had hoped in those three games. We lost all three games by scores of 2-3 (OT), 0-4 and 2-4 while not looking like the team that managed to fight their way through the first round. Nordic Stars were crushing us, and we knew it. So, for games 4-7, me and assistant captain @LastMandalorian decided to get back to basics and eliminate all distractions. No witty gameday posts, no promotion of the games, no stream. Just two teams going head-to-head for a chance to make it to the final four in ECL 5 Pro. To our complete shock and utter joy, it worked. For four games yesterday, this squad of Miners came as close as it ever had to playing perfect hockey. Now, I wont bore you with every little detail, but if you are curious - here is a short recap how it went down. Game 4: Things looked grim as captain @The_Alpha_Furyan took a penalty only 14 in-game seconds in (yeah, I know), but we battled back and managed to get up 2-0 in the first period. NS got a goal in the second but we held on for a 2-1 W. 1-3 series. Game 5: Never did things look more hopeless than in Game 5. NS got up to a 2-0 lead and carried it into the second period. The comeback began in the 2nd period with a behind-the-back deflection goal from series MVP, center LastMandalorian. With 5 minutes left in the 3rd, LW @PatzyDrake timed a long pass perfectly in front of the net and 2-2 was a fact. In the Overtime, NS had a shot ring off the post before "Mando" carried the puck down the left wing and straight-up sniped it bar down. 3-2 OTW and 2-3 series. Game 6: Another 2-0 lead after the first period led us to victory in this one. RD @minokin was the first star here with 1+1. Another 2-1 W and series tied at 3. Game 7: Our best game of the playoffs. RW @pentsaa led the way with 1+2 and G @Onecorner95 pitched a shutout for a 4-0 W. 4-3 series win. Thanks to every player on Nordic Stars for a tremendous series. I don't think I will ever forget this experience, lame as that sounds. On to the next round where we will face Unlucky Boys HC

  19. Hi friends! Before the start of the new season of ECL, I am ready to draw the logo of your team. Today I updated the logo of my club - Prometheus. At the moment I started working with a designer of the KHL, who developed several logos for the KHL clubs. It works for money, so if you have the desire and the means. I myself have developed a few logos for clubs NHLGamer (Nordic Blizzard, Nordic Nosebled, Infinity, Wrong Door Dangler, Lemon Dogs, Face wash Hockey etc.). I'll do the work for free.

  20. I woke up today with a smile on my face. Last night was a good day of gaming and I was reminded of it when I looked at my phone, teammates sharing my opinion of the games last night. That felt good, we have had a good stretch the last couple of weeks but still it is good that you share your opinion with the teammates where we stand right now. Lets back up a few weeks. During the christmas break we decided with our teammates that we are going to grind out a lot of games and boy did we grind. I think we played almost 150 6vs6 games during a span of 14 days. And no, it wasn’t always with our regular lineup but most of the times it was. I think we have played Rusty Blades almost 20 times this month, and SKY being a good second with 10 matches or so. Its hard though, while you can’t put too much weight on those results still i think we have improved, but the hell should I know, its only me looking through black and red glasses, ECL is going to be different right? I mean it has to be ? How can I know the opponents we met were as focused as we do? They definetly are more focused come ECL time compared to a 1am boxing day scrabble? Yes, most definetly. We have tried to form a identity as a team and after all these games I would suspect we have formed one. You always have that one goofeball in the party asking ”Is there any idea in how we play?” or ”How should we play?”. I find the question frustrating. Like what do you mean, like Hardy Nilssons Torpedo hockey? Or Jacques Lemaire trap that he used in Devils back in their glory days. Okay, I get where you are coming from but instead of trying to paint the whole picture in party 30 seconds before the game, just try to focus on some key points before the game and during the game. For example, don’t cheat from your own zone, try to locate where you are going to pass before you get the puck in your own zone etc, don’t get caught with the passing button on lock etc. All of these things we do are going to form good habits that you rely on in the future and form your gamestyle. But you have to adapt to your opponent, we can’t have the same gameplan against a Elite team where we have minimal puck possesion or if we meet a Lite team where we have a lot of puck possesion. I think you would find our team annoying and frustrating to play against, we are not going to play a hawaii type of game against SKY or Rusty etc because what would that give us? First of all we get a loss, then you get the frustration in the party, the so called silence treatment ”the fittspel” etc. So everytime we play these teams we are going to rely on our defense. I am sorry if we are annoying the shit out of you but this is the type of game we have to play right now in order to be successful. We are not playing to lose nor are we playing it to be entertaining. Wins boost confidence and the more you win the more fun you have. There has been struggles of course too, we are still lacking a right defenseman and we have had a couple of guys trying out, but we are yet to find out the perfect fit. But the aftermath of my last post was very encouraging. You just need to hang in there and grind it out. And as of right now we have done that, worked every day to be as prepared as we can be. I am satisfied with that.. Right now. But in this business we all know it can change so fast. One day you get a message that says ”I am leaving the team.” It happens, nothing you can do about it. But you can’t give up just because you have a set back or two. Where would be the challenge in that if you just put together 6 players and everybody think the same about everything and you would just win everything straight away? Would it be fun, probably for a while. But what do I think is fun in this NHL gaming? I would say when we play again tonight and I see where we have come since day 1, that has to be the part as a GM that is most fun, it makes you wake up with a smile in the morning.

  22. Rusty Blades, Elite division. Hey all! I am doing something unusual for me. This topic tells it all, so yeah we are looking for a player. We are a tight group that is going through some changes. We dont do drama a lot, we enjoy playing NHL-series so thats why we do play almost every night. It's all about having some good times but also getting better and being able to challenge any team when the games get real. So I am looking for a starting C. You need to be a team player on the ice and off the ice. So it is important you can find that R2 button when needed and dont get those 30 puck losses in a game. We have always been good at defensive game, so as a C you do have a major role in that too. Just like everyone on the ice. We are looking to get our offense more dangerous from last season, its not all about defending. 🤦🏻‍♂️ If you feel like you could be the guy we are looking for, then throw me a message.

  25. I havent read all the earlier arguments but first thing what came to my mind is that doesnt everything cost money in some way? Like you pay for the console, screen, game, network, controller, forntnite skins and dances etc etc you know exactly what I meen just by thinking about anything you have done in your life. For example if you think about your other hobbies you find out that even jogging costs and I am not gonna explain why. BUT you are not ready for paying for competive NHL league? And all those things that OTHER people do for you and in this chase have done it for years. And then you say that I dont care about EASHL stats. Only ECL. But Im not ready for paying that. In other perspective you want this ”using others passion for my benefit” continue. Do you want everything to be free? So are you ready to pay for this value? That other people makes the site and all the arrangements for YOU? And for the same prize you can get pizza and energydrink but is it Pizzanight or practice for ECL what you need that pizza and energydrink for? Because of the people that has made this League you want to play this game? Isnt it? Would you keep playing as passionate this game if there wouldnt be ECL? Would you listen as much Spotify with the free version? And yeayea its not complitely the same thing but I hope you get the point. Maybe the discussion is about having more motivation from moneyprizes but do you even need that to pay?

  27. The time has come for me to spread my wings and put myself… eh, lets skip to the point. I am looking for a team. (sold) A 6vs6 ECL franchise that is dedicated, a fun group to play with and above all: always looking to improve. For those of you who don’t know me, I am KenuFHR, a longtime ECL (and before that EHL) player who runs this beautiful website (along with some other lovely people). Despite being asked for ID when buying Pepsi, I am old (32). When I am not coding and/or breaking stuff on the site, I have previously made my home on RW for clubs such as Kattiautomaatti, FHR Punakone (never forget) and others. While I am most comfortable on RW, I can play the other forward positions as well. @janbonator and @Dominointi will surely aid to perfect my face-off skills by the time ECL 5 kicks off, if helpful for the team. With me you get a positionally aware two-way winger with playmaking ability who’s gone up against the very best the EASHL community has to offer and know what it takes to play at that level. Therefore, I am first and foremost looking for teams in ECL Elite or ECL Pro. Should you wish to check my stats, you can do so here: https://nhlgamer.com/player.php?playerID=4 As you can see from the stats, NHL 17 was not a big effort on my side time-wise (due to working abroad) and I am back and ready to bring my A-game back in NHL 18. Send me a PM here or on PSN (KenuFHR) if interested. On a side-note. @Pontus T aka Terasniska is hands down one of the best D-men I've ever played with and I had the privilege of playing with him on the same team in the Summer Cup. You absolutely need this guy on your Elite team. Better yet, bring us both in.

  29. Hi guys, Hopefully you enjoyed my recent ECL 5 Elite Season Report. If you didn't, thats cool too. I've always approached the topics I've written about here at NHLGamer with a "what would I be interested in reading"-mindset. Usually that lines up pretty well with what y'all are interested in - we do share quite a particular interest in 'EASHL 6v6 gaming' - but sometimes it doesn't and that is just fine. Trying to please everyone is pretty much an impossible task, so in the end you just do your best and hope people enjoy your work. I have been writing for NHLGamer for about 18 months (this was my first feature) which actually doesn't sound like a lot, but to me it feels like it has been quite some time. Now, if you feel like this is starting to sound like an eulogy - that is not my intent. I am not dying nor am I giving up writing for NHLGamer com. What I will say is that you probably won't see any major stories or features like the Elite Season Report on NHLGamer from me for a while... To most of you, a statement like that probably doesn't matter. Again, completely understandable. From the perspective of the average NHLGamer "consumer" - as long as the light stays on and new stories containing the proper information is released, all is good. It makes sense. However, I'd like to think that some of you out there have come to enjoy my particular approach to writing. I know I have certainly appreciated all the feedback I have received from you all during these 18 months - both public and in PM, both positive and negative. So, why am I opening up to tell you all of this? Well, the reason I won't have as much time to dedicate towards writing about virtual hockey is that I am trying my hand at writing about actual hockey. About two months ago, I quit my regular 9 to 5-job to start my own business and try to make it as a hockey writer. To be honest, making that leap scared the living shit out of me and every day since I made the decision has been a solid mixture of "what the hell am I doing" and "this might actually work". We'll have to wait and see which side of that particular coin ends up on top. I got to be honest though, writing "for" you guys here at NHLGamer and listening to all of your feedback is what inspired me to believe I was capable of making this journey and I will always be thankful for that. For that reason, I would really love it if I could have you join me on this thing I am attempting - to have you keep reading the stuff I am writing. Should you find the material interesting of course, that is! In my current situation - every Twitter follow, re-tweet or direct click on a particular story is huge. Every uplifting word or constructive criticism on something I wrote, a valuable lesson! Anyway, enough talking, here's where you'll find me: Twitter [regular updates on any stories I write as they are released]: @TheAlphaFuryan Eliteprospects.com [14 articles so far, here are three of them - in English]: http://www.eliteprospects.com/article.php?id=35 http://www.eliteprospects.com/article.php?id=149 http://www.eliteprospects.com/article.php?id=163 NHL.com/sv [2 articles so far, more to come in the following month - in Swedish] https://www.nhl.com/sv/news/capitals-nodvandiga-forlust/c-294314572 Pro Hockey Magazine [5 WJC stories in December edition, 2 feature length NHL stories in January edition - in Swedish] https://scontent-arn2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/25550576_10155704240985781_1918622112284507151_n.png?oh=c416d8ef8a50c4dd26e04933cc7bef09&oe=5AC90379 SHL.se/eshl [regular articles and videos about NHL 18, HUT and SHL - in Swedish] http://www.shl.se/eshl If you've made it all the way down this lengthy post, I'd like to thank you for taking the time out of your day to read it. 33. I learned that this player is currently a free agent. My own team has enough defenders but maybe someone else's doesn't. Jyrkkis entered my awareness in 2010. He and his friend TehhAhola joined my EASHL club at the time. A lot of his traits that have carried over to this day were already evident. The 15-year-old kid was a relaxed, even docile person, which I thought a bit unusual for a guy his age. My conception of most teen boys was a petulant and disagreeable guy hopped up on Euroshopper energy drinks. If memory serves, it was only once that I ever really witnessed a truly testy jyrkkis. He'd been assigned the task of babysitting some relative, a little girl I think it was. You know how those really young kids can get, especially if you're just trying to chill with some EASHL, so it was understandable even if out of character for jyrkkis. Jyrkkis was always a very mentally predictable guy. He's not stupid, not in the least, but with him you always know what you're going to get. He's never petty and he steers clear of any drama. He has never let ego get in the way. He can be stern when needed, but never in a way that's offensive or annoying to others. All that makes him one of the best team players I've ever encountered. It's not just the persona, though, that inspired me to write this and try to convince some good team out there to give jyrkkis a try. He has developed into an excellent player. He's a small name in the community, but I truly believe he's an elite player who belongs in some of the toughest matchups in the ECL. I don't think he's the flashiest defender. That sounds like something you might say about someone who's actually not that good, but that's not the case here. Jyrkkis at his best, which is amazingly often, brings a similar predictability in his game that he does in his character. He's predictably solid. My latest season with him was with Gotham Knights. I'm known to make plenty of thoughtless decisions that cost a penalty or a goal against my team. Countless times jyrkkis was there to patch things up. Like a guardian angel he'd descend upon the play and stop our team from suffering the consequences of my actions. As a defensive partner, you always know what he's up to because he's right where you want him to be. While I've focused on defense, jyrkkis's offensive contribution deserves to be considered. "Optimal" is the first word that comes to mind. To be blunt, jyrkkis doesn't really come up with the sort of game changing moves you'll see from the very top-end defenders like vatalisti and such. But he has an excellent knack for getting his team across the offensive blue line and once there, his decisions on the puck are intelligent. I would have to say defense is the standout part of jyrkkis's game but you'll definitely appreciate his offense as well. So there you have it. That's jyrkkis, the guy and the player I've had the pleasure of knowing for all these years. Wherever he ends up, I hope to one day see all that ability translate into recognition in the community. Because to me, that's long overdue with this guy.

  37. Hey all! Going to introduce our players while waiting for NHL18 to finally arrive. Just a few questions from the players. First interviewed is our goalie Supreex. First ever Summer Cup winner from Rusty Blades. Name: Supreex Age: 25 Glove: Left Style: Butterfly Supreex started his ECL career in ECL3 with his first and only team by far Rusty Blades. For the team the first season was hard and play-offs slided out of reach. Supreex in the other hand had a great season as the defense of Rusty Blades was a bit off in their debute season. For ECL 4 the team and their goalie was much better prepared and recorded regular season 20-5-3. They managed to end up in 3th position in group 1, right after Carlsberg HC and Sjukstugan. Carlsberg winner of the Pro division lost only 4 games in regular season. Two of them was against Supreex's team with one of them being a shutout. But there was no fairytale ending after great season from Supreex. Pro division playoffs, semi final, game seven, overtime. That was where the season ended against well defending Silver Sword Griffins. After a while Summer Cup came and Supreex bounced right back up from the devastating loss in semi's. He was a beast on the net of NG Cheap Shot. Ended up as a winner in Summer Cup. Pelimies80 must had been happy about drafting this goalie to his Summer Cup team NG Cheap Shot. Now Supreex is getting ready for the ECL5 with his team Rusty Blades. He is really determined to achieve something great, that I can say. How did you find EASHL? Supreex: A friend recommended. Started to play random games with them. Why Rusty Blades? Supreex: "Drafted" from a Finnish nhl forum by them. Your main goals for NHL18? Supreex: Elite Lots of eSports these days. Why NHL-series from all of the alternatives? Supreex: Only game where I am good at. Mostly due to countless hours of playing. Your role-model from real hockey? Why? Supreex: Devan Dubnyk. Because goalie and Minnesota. Your skills as a goalie was truly noticed by the community during the Summer Cup. How does that make you feel and does it bring you some pressure? Supreex: Not really, I try not to think about it and just try to keep improving my playing. Thats all for now. Until the next player. https://www.facebook.com/RustyBladesEASHL

  39. "Play with your instinct," he would say. There I was, in a drop-in game as left winger. I'd like to think I scored some points, but I can't remember for sure. After the game, an invite popped up on my screen. It was for a party chat. It came from one of my random teammates. I joined and said hello. A brief moment of awkward silence was interrupted by a brisk cheery voice. The guy had seen EA advertise my stats during the game. He thought I had racked up an impressive point total. That was JParola, whose team I then joined. I ended up playing thousands of games by his side in a defensive partnership that would last years. In our first team together, Parola actually started out on offense. During one particular game he kind of flared about our defense. If memory serves, our RD at the time was on the puck. Instead of making the obvious pass that would have kept our offense going, he chose to shoot the puck and cause a turnover. Parola decided he had seen enough. He said he'd switch to defense for a game to show us how it's done. He thought he'd get right back to being a forward after that, but it was not meant to be. He was far too good down there. We always knew each other on the ice, but our approach was different. The more confident Parola trusted his instinct to guide his game. He knew he had a high sense for making the right moves. I tried to analyze every little thing I did and react accordingly. In hindsight, Parola's game philosophy makes more sense to me than ever. I have only recently begun to adopt it. There's no point trying to force order into something that's chaotic at its core. In any situation on the ice, you can never control for all the variables. Maybe that's possible in offline with bots but not in 6 vs. 6. That's why it makes sense to react to whatever happens, when it happens. And that's best done by instinct rather than conscious decision. That will always be quicker and more effective. I mean, as long as you're good. Like Parola.

  43. The idea is to view two consecutive ECL games at a time focusing on a single player and post my analysis on that player’s performance. The current rule of mandatory streaming and saving the streams (in Elite, anyway) is very convenient for this. There are countless variables affecting a player’s performance. For example, a player could be having an off night for whatever reason. My tiny sample size means I cannot accurately judge a player’s long-term performance. So while I try to be quite honest in these posts, my opinions are not intended to reflect any final conclusions made of any player. Also, I don’t claim to be an authority on player performance as this is obviously all based on subjective interpretation. Expect my first scouting report sometime after tomorrow as ECL officially resumes after the all-star week.

  44. This is certainly one of the best, if not the best and most truthful post I have read on our forums. You certainly hit the nail with many points about how it can be hard to join a new community, how the people you play with make the biggest difference and how important it is for the established community to welcome new members with open arms and make people feel welcome. "Treat other people like you want to be treated" is a cliché, but I couldn't agree with it more. You also describe the everyday life of playing what is "just a game" quite perfectly. Not everyone takes it as seriously (and that's also perfectly fine), but for those of us who do, I'm sure resonate with your story above. Thank you for this post and the value you bring to this community.
