Howdy, Gamers! We told you earlier this week that there was going to be one more cool thing released before the NHL 18 Beta kicks off next Tuesday and here it is! Well, at least we think it's cool. NHLGamer Presents: ECL Talk is our brand new podcast program for the official ECL news, trades and other things that are associated with NHL gaming. How does it work then, you might ask. Basically, it's about two passionate NHL gamers talking about what is going on around NHLGamer - and sometimes outside of it. We have two hosts: @The_Alpha_Furyan and I, @vSilenttio, and we might have some guests with us talking about stuff in the future. As we tell the latest news and other things that are going on, we're also giving our personal opinions on things. We would like to emphasize that the things we say are not official words of NHLGamer - we just tell our opinions as individual gamers. Anyways, give us a listen and find out yourself if it's your thing or not! If you enjoy it, be sure to subscribe to our channel and give the video a thumbs up! PS: We're working on improving the technical quality of the series in the future. Until next time, have a nice day!22 points

Alpha with a very professional sounding intro, introduces Sile who sounds like he just woke up from a drunken stupor 😂3 points

Here are nine players who come to mind right now. I have excluded all current teammates from SIKA and former longtime teammates from the Finnish Roosters. I've also excluded goalies, because there's a separate thread for those and what do I know about goalies, anyway? This list is based mainly on the players' recent form in ECL 4 and regular EASHL games that I've witnessed personally. Centers Dominointi: I perceive this guy as a two-way center with a victorious (R.I.P. VSH) playing style. He makes the game easier for his team. Shift after shift and game after game, Dominointi keeps making all the right decisions on the ice. Patzlaf: one of the toughest forwards to defend against, for sure. Excellent vision. Playing against him you really aught to mind those passing lanes, because Patzlaf needs little time and he will find his teammates. Bjono: "underrated" comes to mind. Then again, I don't really know how he's rated around here. I see him as an elite center in both ends of the ice. Bjono is also quite the tactician. He's one of those guys who's thinking of the game in depth and will adjust as needed. Wingers Joukki: Joukki is no joke with the puck. Hailing from a class of young stars with twitchy thumbs like PleeMaker (who, by the way, would surely be on this list had I not recused myself earlier), Penatski and Ape, Joukki has carved his name into the elite by combining raw individual skill with smart team play. It's no wonder his contribution has resulted in a number of consecutive ECL finals for his team. Now if only he could squeeze just four more wins out of a tournament... itspardytime: if anyone were to care about my list at all, I suspect this might be my most controversial pick. I see "pardy" as one of the greatest offensive threats in the game. His importance to Tiki Talk cannot be overstated. To say that pardy is offensively minded to the detriment of his defensive game may be putting it lightly, but I see him as the biggest reason why any game against Tiki Talk needs to be taken seriously. Foppatofflan: one of the quickest minds on the ice, Foppatofflan is a treat for any linemate. His lightning fast game sense tends to ensure plenty of scoring chances for his team. One night I got to see him in action playing on the same team, and it was quite amazing to watch. Foppatofflan seems always aware of his next move, and as a defenseman trying to shut him down, I must confess that it can get very difficult to keep up. Defensemen Terasniska: it's only a few nights that I've paired with "Sniska" on defense, but the impression is such that I didn't hesitate to include him. From what I've seen, he's like a factory machine pumping out one perfect play after another. If EA made the bot defensemen really unfair, they just might model them after this guy. nylanderi: a defenseman with tour de force moves who's bound to be a decisive factor in games. A young guy who plays with emotion, which is an aspect that elevates his game at best and hampers it at worst. His highest level may just be unequaled. Rullstolskalas: the legendary "Rulle" has been ruining opponents' games for as long as I can remember. I've heard he's a man of not just few but in fact no words at all. Apparently, the guy just sits there in the party, listening, focused on doing what he knows best: getting in the mind of the opponent carrying the puck into NOS' defensive zone, and denying the fool who thought to even try. Back in my days with the Finnish Roosters, "Fucking Rulle!" was an expression I heard countless times from the mouth of my dear Johtaja. Rullstolskalas is like a force of nature: with the same pressing inevitability by which day turns into night, Rullstolskalas will take the puck away from you.3 points

- "PS: We're working on improving the technical quality of the series in the future." The background music level is perhaps a touch too loud. Alpha_furyan also has quite a bit of an echo.2 points

This topic will work as NHLGamer's official streaming discussion and information thread. Feel free to share your streams here. Reminder! When you put up a ECL stream, remember to add your stream to NHLGamer as well. It really does give you more visibility and makes it easier and faster to watch your stream instead of just only writing the link into chatbox which is of course also good thing to do. All you need to do is click "add stream" in the front page and you're one click away from the fame! And all this takes only 30 seconds at max. to do. Support for other platforms (Youtube etc.) will be done in the future as well. My links are in my forum signature, both personal & SIKA's (SpiderRoyal's stream).1 point

I know its podcast but imo it would be more enjoyable to listen if u add like gameplay or something u can watch on the background. Little bit boring for me now but maybe I am just a kiddo1 point

Somehow that music doesnt fit with that kinda podcast imo. It feels like its going to be sort but when it takes over 10mins listening that music makes me a bit restless. But otherwise it was very good start for this series, liked it a lot.1 point

You shouldn't have to concentrate on what people are saying in a podcast I'd argue.1 point

A new game calls for new features and one of the announced additions to NHL 18 is that of HUT ROOKIES. In accordance with the direction EA has decided to go - the special focus on the young stars of today in both marketing and developement – these player cards puts the spotlight on the brightest shining youngsters in each of the 31(!) NHL teams. Having taking some liberties with the term ”Rookies”, the players in this set of special cards range from 3+ years pros like Matt Dumba, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Alexander Barkov, to players like Patrik Laine, Jimmy Vesey and Zack Werenski who made their debut last year. Having a set of cards like this, with a chosen player for every team is nothing new in this game mode that everybody loves to hate, but still play anyway. Last year it was called HUT Heroes and revolved around the legends of yesterday. What is different this time around though is the availability of the cards and the ratings they got. While HUT Heroes could only be unlocked through collecting an entire team of cards (players, jerseys, arena etc.), HUT Rookies seems to be dealt out for free when first starting your team. The team you choose as your favorite at the start of the game – the young star of that team will be added to your roster. Anyone thinking about choosing Toronto just to get that shiny special edition Austen Matthews to dangle around your opponents with? Not so fast! While HUT Heroes pushed the limits on how good a rating could reach (all of the cards boasted at least 93+) – these cards seems to be nerfed down versions of the players in question, since all of the cards have a rating of 85 (with player specific variations on the sub categories). With HUT ROOKIES including players like Draisaitl, Laine and Calvin Pickard – it is not hard to assume that the base cards of said players have different values (reasonable thinking places Draisaitl and Laine with a way higher overall than Calvin Pickard). For anyone familiar with the game mode a 85 overall does not impress – players of that calibre goes for 500-1000 coins on the open market, and usually leaves the line up after less than 50 games. That being said, EA recently announced that they are doing a big overhaul on the ratings system – meaning that 85 overall could have a bigger impact on your lineup than previous years. This would be a thankful change from 17 where the amount of 99 rated cards reached inflation levels making everything below 90 less than useless. Only time will tell how big of an impact this new feature will have on the HUT gameplay – but we can sure agree that them cards are lookin’ shiney! Which card will you be snagging up? Let us know in the comments! Follow this link for a list of all of the players: https://www.easports.com/nhl/news/2017/nhl-18-hut-rookies1 point

I'd love to find a nice ECL-oriented team to play with forever and ever. My longtime team Finnish Roosters folded after the last ECL season, so I joined Aapon Taikasauva but failed to establish myself there and now I'm back to square one. I've played most of my EASHL games as right defenseman. Lately I've enjoyed playing goalie, too, but I'm very much a work in progress in that role. If you have the patience to watch me let in some cheap goals at this point, I'm quite sure it would all pay off once I have a better grip on all the mechanics. I'm already playing some solid games where I don't let in any easy shots and I'll even save a bunch of the high-percentage chances. It's just not consistent yet. This whole goalie thing is secondary to me, though, so if you just need a defenseman you can ignore this bit if you like. My PSN ID is ktewjh but my old name from the Xbox 360 was Janikka, as seen here at NHL Gamer, which rolls off the tongue a lot better so a bunch of players (including myself) still call me that. UPDATE: I went to HC Sika on a tryout basis so my announcement of free agency is now void. It all happened so fast as to disorient my aging mind. Having previously played for the Finnish Roosters and now playing in Sika, you could say I've simply gone from one farm animal to another.1 point
