  1. This is an idea I had back in the day when EHL was still around. I've thought about requesting it to NHL Gamer but have always kinda "forgotten" it. Anyway, the idea is having ECL championships (and individual awards if wanted) listed on NHL Gamer under a web page of their own. This would make it easier for everybody to see which team has won which championship without having to memorize it (which might turn out to be quite tricky after multiple ECL seasons have been played) or go through the news feed. This wouldn't just be a nice little "tool" for the community, but would also give more prestige to the championship itself, as the champions would get a showcase of their own. This would also guarantee championship victory will never be forgotten - at least as long as the ECL is running. The showcase of championships would be fairly easy to be put together. The site itself could just list ECL champions season by season from newest to oldest (or vice versa). For Example: ECL 3 (NHL 17, PS4) - ECL 3 Champion ECL 2 (NHL 16, PS4) - Mukimiehet ECL 1 (NHL 16, PS4) - Nordic Blizzard So the list would show the (number of) ECL season, the game and console that season was played on, and the name of the winning team. The console/platform won't be mandatory as long as there is no ECL being played on Xbox One (or later on on PS5 etc). Also, every column (for example "ECL 1 (NHL16, PS4) - Nordic Blizzard") should have a link which leads you to a page which is showcasing the names of all the players who were part of that winning team. Names of the players could be shown in a format of "PSN ID - NHL Gamer name", or only with NHL Gamer name. Every player name would also include a link to the player's personal NHL Gamer profile. There could also be extra information on these sites if wanted, but I thought I'd just give you a rough example. With the new divisional system coming, it would be up to NHL Gamer Staff to decide whether they would like to list Pro and Amateur champions as well, but of course it would be a nice touch, I'd say. I feel this would be a great tool for the NHL Gamer community to follow which teams have won the ECL title before, and who are the players who've been part of that team during that time. It would be a great way to showcase NHL Gamer's greatest prize. It would be great to be able to check who've won the ECL Championship, instead of just relying on what you remember or what people tell you. What do you guys think? Would it be a cool new feature or a totally lame idea?

  2. Alright, my bi-monthly bitching is here. So, the goal any of interface should be ease of user interaction, in other words the input sheet should be concise, no unnecessary extras, and should be as quick to fill in as possible. With that in mind, let's have a look at the current stats input page: I don't think there's many problems with this, in a perfect world I'd say there's no need to put in the opponent's stats as well as yours as it just slows down the whole process, alas I understand why it could be deemed somewhat necessary due to some teams having manipulated stats in the past to put themselves in a more favourable light. That said however I would argue why punish the clean teams by forcing them to input both sets of stats? Furthermore I would argue one stat that probably should be here is passing percentage. Okay, time for my pet peeve. Why on earth are usernames not available here? Seems like something that wouldn't exactly be too hard to put in as it's literally just pulling a name from the same sheet where the player names are coming from, aka: here. Anecdotally speaking I know at least a couple team captains who don't even know what names their teammates use in game, due to them changing it from time to time. Why not make it simpler and just show all the information possible? It would stop people accidentally putting in the wrong players. That final point leads me on to another criticism of the star selection, why do we both (aka: both teams) have to put every player / star selection in? Wouldn't it be easier to have each team fill in the stars, based on where their team came? (Ie: If team A had 3 star selection, team B could just leave all the stars blank on their stat sheet. / If team A had stars at 1 and 3, then they would put the respective players in the 1 and 3 slot, whilst leaving the second slot for team B.) This hopefully would cut accidental fuck ups to basically nil, and then in turn we wouldn't have people complaining about people not updating their player name (The mere fact that this is a complaint is beyond absurd to me). Now for the next page of stats. (Side note: Sorry to HC Solhem, this isn't me rubbing it in, it was just the only game where I supposedly had this still open ) Again, in the drop down box there should be usernames, then player names IMO. Furthermore, I should make mention of the fact that if a player leaves a team during the season, a weird hyphen appears. I'm nitpicking here so bare with me, but I feel as though the stat sheet should be as streamlined as possible so any nitpicking should be welcomed at this point. WOG, DP, PS, EN and SC. Penalty shot I feel should be placed with the drop box, along with the other means of scoring already placed there (eg: Even strength, PPG and SHG). The other side boxes however just seem redundant to me, we can't see them in the standings so we can only see who scored a DP goal in the post match report? That seems immensely flawed. I understand you want as much information to be recorded as possible but some things are just not worth going into the demo and looking through every goal, just to check if one of them was a DP goal. Furthermore, what's up with the net chart? In what way could that ever be generated? Additionally, I'd wager quite a few teams haven't even paid attention to the side columns enough to even realise they were there. I'll hold my hand up and say I didn't even realise the drop down box made a distinction between even strength and 4v4 / 3v3. Am I particularly sad about this however? Not particularly due to the fact these stats are seemingly lost once you go away from the post match presser. My favourite part about the stats is this little bit, legit, what's the use? As far as I can see this falls under my previous point about the stats just falling into a pit once you progress away from the post match page. You can't find it anywhere on the stats page, both for teams or players, so my question is what's the point in making a distinction between the penalties if you're not going to track it fully? Especially when some penalties are straight up missing (Eg: Someone noted a few days ago that cross-checking isn't in the list). Basically, in conclusion I think the stats are somewhat fine but they are effectively wasting time for the individual inputting the stats as some of them are just straight up not being tracked. Furthermore, I feel as though some information that should be available during the stats stage, simply isn't there. TL:DR, the stats aren't broken and some may view me as just bitching about pointless shit, but for something that every captain has to do many times a season, any opportunity to save time and reduce the chances of unintentional fuck ups should be taken. As such: (+ Denotes add, - denotes remove) -Need to add stats for both teams, make it so you only have to add your own -Penalty drop down box and class all penalties as the same, not counting minute duration ofc -Need to add full star selection on both sides of the stat sheet, make it so only one team reports 'their' stars -Unnecessary types of goal condition, see penalty criticism for same reasoning +Passing percentage statistic in opening page +Usernames for players available at all times

  3. I thought you guys might have been planning something similar, but you I thought I should bring this up since we have not had that site up yet. And yeah, I think it would be cool if there was the kind of system you described. I gave a very rough idea since it'd be something that would require very little time to create and update, since I know you guys are quite busy with the site anyways. Some code or algorithm which would gather information automatically would be always up to date, but requires time to create (or that's what I'd imagine, I've only created simple websites not codes). Anyway, it'd just be great to have a place where all the ECL winners' names would be represented without people having to navigate through team or player profiles.

  4. Hello everybody, I just discovered this community and this looks amazing. This is what NHL needs. Since Im a "newbie" here and I dont know this community well enough, maybe someone could shed some light on why not have: ECL based on relegation? You know for example lets just call it ECLM (European Championship League Minors). Then at the end of the season lets say the worst ECL team plays the best ECLM team. Winner go to ECL and loser to ECLM. All the new teams should start their way up from the ECLM. Also in case there are some big clubs out there they could have a second/affiliate/development team playing in the "minors".

  5. Streaming I decided to write a small topic about streaming, options and some techknowledge. First of all you need to think about how you want to handle your stream. There is basically 3 options how to handle it, I'll tell what you can do with them and what you cannot. 1st option: PS4 broadcasting PS4 broadcasting is the easiest and simpliest way to stream your PS4 gameplay. You just need twitch account (later known as your channel), PS4 and good enough internet (PS4 will tell when you have too slow upload speed but minimum should be 5mb/s UP and recommended 10mb/s) Twitch account can easily done here: www.twitch.tv After setting your channel up (just explore everything in there) you want to head to your dashboard with your computer (link works properly when you're logged into Twitch) At the dashboard and all sub tabs you can make changes to your stream: change name, change game, language etc. Using the dashboard isn't compulsory but will make your life lot easier What is possible with PS4 broadcast? PS4 broadcasting is pretty rudimentary mean to stream. You basically get your basic needs: stream, chat, mic and facecam (if wanted with PScamera) No overlays, alerts and nothing *fancy* what you see in Twitch P.S. remember that your twitch account name is also your channels name. For example my twitch nick is MovaaN and my channel link is www.twitch.tv/movaan 2nd option: PS4 broadcasting + OBS (or other streaming tool for computer) This is bit interesting way to stream. In short in this method we use 2 Twitch channels to stream. 1st we stream with our PS4, then we make OBS (just for example) to use that stream as a source and stream the "main" stream with computer. In this method there are pros and cons. Pros being the ability to make overlays and other *fancy* stuff for your stream and no need to buy capture cards. Cons being extremely high internet usage in your upload bandwith. Haven't tested this on my 10mbs up connection but I have some concerns it not being high enough. It may have enough "size" but it won't be stable enough for smooth stream. 3rd option: Computer + OBS + capture card (like Elgato HD60) Setup like this is used by people with more invest in streaming. Here you play with your PS4 normally but use capture device to get AV source to computer. Then you use software like OBS to stream it through your computer With this you can have pretty much anything you want on your stream. Only limit is just your imagination and techskills Here are some of the softwares and links which are useful for streamers: https://www.twitch.tv/broadcast FAQ: Q:How fast internet you need to stream? Good thumbrule is to have 2 times of bandwith compared to bitrate. Q:What is bitrate Bitrate is how much data your stream sends out. For example I like to stream with 720p resolution at 60 frames per second, this needs a bitrate around 3300-3500Kbps Q:What bitrate should I use? Depends. On PS4 you don't have to think about controlling it, console handles itself. There are tons of different settings but majority should be okay with following: 720p60fps (3500Kbps), 720p30fps (2800Kbps), 480p60fps (1500Kbps) and lower around 1000Kbps. You can count from these your bandwith requirement, for example 720p60fps needs 2x3500Kbps=7000Kbps or more commonly around 7-8M up. This here isn't exact science but found as good thumbrule through trial and error Q:I love Full HD, can I stream on 1080p? Yes of course you can. But remember this: Unless you aren't a Twitch partner, your viewers can only see your stream on Source quality. This means following: Your viewer needs good enough internet to watch your stream, 1080 need usually @ 30fps around 3500Kbps and @ 60fps almost 5000. Just for contrast, my 720p60fps is on the edge for non-partner streamer. I have bandwith to send but for some viewers the stream buffers and stutters because their download speed isn't just enough. Q:What are dropped frames? Dropped frames mean frames that aren't send out. On PS4 you can't see this but with OBS and other computer based softwares have statistic for this. Common reasons for dropped frames are too slow connection (drop your bitrate and quality) or unstable connection. With older computers this can be caused too by bad CPU (cannot handle encoding of the stream). Just remember that majority of the times when ppl complain on your channel chat that you drop frames the issue is usually with their internet or Twitch server is acting up Q:Can I put my own music on my stream? Yes you can, but with caution. Copyright laws and copyrighted content should always be used with care. If you have copyright protected music on your stream then your VOD (video archive of your past broadcasts) may be muted of all sounds. Soundcloud TwitchFM and Spotify has some nice copyright free music I hope that this helped atleast some people with their questions about streaming. If you have more questions or tips and tricks to add, then feel free reply to this topic. Also check out my VOIP topic
