Hey Everyone,

If you're reading this, I want to thank you for taking the time to visit our forums and finding this thread! I hope you find our site interesting, despite the little content at the moment and decide to sign up. You can find the button for that in the top right corner.

There will be other threads where I will let you in on how things are looking with our website development overall, where we are and where we are going. We're also looking forward to getting your feedback about how you're liking our main page (very basic at the moment), the forums (which we like to refer to as the community) and its different departments, and where you would like to see us go with this whole website development.

I guess it's only appropriate that I start by introducing myself.

I'm Kenneth, a 30-year-old guy who likes to play NHL. My passion for hockey video games started when I was around 10 years old, I believe. NHL 95 was probably the first of EA's titles I played. Before that, there had been at least Blades of Steel and Ice Hockey on the good old Nintendo Entertainment system.

Let's fast forward into about 1999-2000. I had been enjoying the NHL-mods for NHL 98 and NHL 99 by such great modders as Mizu and Tommi, that brought the Finnish leagues to the NHL-series for the first time. But almost as quickly as these mods found their way into my life, Mizu and Tommi announced that they wouldn't be creating any mods anymore. This was a big shock to me. I remember reaching out to Mizu and asking him for tips on how to get started in modding. I was determined to replace this void in the modding community and I started looking for people to help me work with it. At the time, I was horrible at it and had it not been for such talented people as S@lo, L@zer (there was a bit of and @-trend at the time :)) and Ospa, our mods probably would've never seen the daylight. This is a long story, with a lot of more names to mention, but for now, let's leave it for another time.

Let's fast forward another 10 years. We've been making the Finnish mods for 10 years and reached a great level of quality and a big fanbase. EA announced NHL 10, but it wouldn't be released for PC. That was the end of our modding. Since then, there's been a void in my life for creating, a void that I've filled by playing an insane amount of NHL and sure, there's been other great adventures as well. But the fire towards creating something has always been there.

There's been a concept in my head since 2009, just around the time that we found out about NHL 10 not being out for PC, and myself and some other members of that modding crew were making blueprints for what NHLGamer.com should be. And it's those blueprints that have finally lead us to this day and where we're quite a bit closer to reaching this dream of a good functioning NHL community website.

Fun fact: NHLGamer.com actually used to be an NHL tournament site created by Petri Wathén (I hope I remember the spelling correctly - he was known as PW). There was a handful of people who were allowed to create tournaments there. I was one of them, and we would create tournaments by request from the community. I can't remember when (many, many years ago), but eventually PW said he didn't want to take care of the site anymore, and offered to sell the domain and code that he had been using. We are not using any of the code from that size, as it was written in Perl, but we're happy to have the good old NHL Gamer name live on.

At the moment, the people that are officially part of the NHLGamer.com team besides myself are: Samuli, aka @Lurkins (in this context, the @ is to tag a forum member) and Christoffer, aka @kooffein. I will leave it to them to introduce themselves further.

We'll be expanding the amount of staff in the future. Don't be afraid to send me a private message on the forums if you think you have something to offer. I will discuss the site more in detail in the future, so it's easier to narrow down what we're looking for at that time.

With your support we can make this happen, so I hope you make this website your and your teams home, where we can share good games, tournaments and discussions.

Thank you,

Kenneth
