@cHIIMEERa Ok. Well for the last few posts the discussion was about how best to decide the bottom 2 spots in Division 1. Also, the great majority of contributions to the discussion comes from D1 bound teams and that's less than representative of what the community thinks (although I have always suspected that this is a big gathering of sheep so maybe you are indeed the only guys who care about anything, but I digress...). It's too easy to promote a system where you don't suffer from any of its downsides. It's too easy to say "I get it you're mad" and leave out the "but please bite the bullet so I can have the best time for my top guy self". It's too easy to discard comments as coming from bitter low division people. Look at Silenttio's reply to Jesus it reads like "You wanna be in D1, tough shit dude". I have never mentioned agreeing with Jesus's crusade here but I do agree with him that some voices from the bottom would be welcome. They will make out the biggest portion of the new league after all. And I'm repeating myself, but the bottom guys should NOT be the biggest portion, it should be the middle guys. Whatever, FML. @Jnmxxx You're welcome.

@Jnmxxx The auto-relegated spot raises the stakes of the points race in the regular season for bottom teams in higher divisions. Can't you trade a little bit of competitiveness (and really as has been exposed, that bit is so little that it might not even exist at all) for some extra excitement? It's also a reward for teams that suffer through entier lower division reason and playoffs win. I think it's fine to give a guaranteed spot (or 2 as it is described but I think 1 would be better, anyway same principle). On a side note I quite dislike the top-player-centric turn this discussion seems to be taking. Also, I feel like the valid points I make are being drwoned in petty quarrels, that's not cool.

I'm not even against a 3-division system but you're either lying or wrong here. Even 2 divisions are fundamentally different from a group based tournament. Anyway I am still waiting for a rationale for making the least enjoyable part of your league, the 3rd division, the biggest part of it, and probably trending up. I would at the very least balance that out by offering a lot more spots in the balance between D2 and D3. I'd be cool with this: - Start D3 playoffs at round of 16. - D3 playoff winner takes D2 last place in D2 - other 7 D3 quarter finalists do relegation stage vs D2 #9 to #15 Before anyone says that's too much turnover, it's justified turnover if teams win their promotion, right? But more importantly, I want to say it again coz I don't want it to be lost in the other shit I write, the middle division should be the bigger division imo. By the way...I vote for naming divisions Hobbit division, LOTR division and Silmarillion division, from worst to best obviously. Another Tolkien book joke. I'm on (secret) fire!

@Egyptologen Spare me your patronizing speech. I don't owe this website anything, and disagreeing is not the same as not understanding. I thought you of all people would know that I have the highest level of understanding of what Kenu is going for, I just disagree with him on a fundamental level, and on a technical level. My point is not even the same as Jesus's so what about my point? Are there more bad teams than average teams? Anyway, I'm still mildly glad a division system is tried. As I said before I've been one of the most vocal proponents of this. It's just bittersweet how things turn out for my personal case. It's like when Frodo says at the grey haven "We set out to save the Shire and it has been saved, but not for me". That's a Lord of the Rings reference, kids. Goodnight.

I think that if the expansion of ECL teams follows that of NHLGamer users in any sort of way, you'll soon get half of the teams in the "amateur" division. I myself am not necessarily against the 3 division system but I think the middle division should have the most players, not the bottom division. Now yuou can discard my observation as trying to get myself into Division 2, and I guess it's also true, but I really do feel that there is a small-ish amount of top teams, a small-ish amount of bad teams, and the majority is average and so if the goal of division is to separate teams by playing ability the middle should be biggest. Also, I certainly don't speak for the whole community by any means but at least if, in the event that we try to bring back CoG, we're slotted in the bottom division, what is likely gonna happen is we won't be able to recruit good players and as a result we will not take part in the tourney. Maybe Jesus can join some team but I'm pretty sure Raixor and I will just "retire". To be honest I'm thinking about quitting this ECL given the unlikelyhood of my current club reaching playoffs because what's the point anymore? If I'm gonna retire anyway after this why would I suffer through the end of this fucking grind of a tournament we are currently playing? So while the jury is still out on whether this division system will grow the community, there will be at least one casualty of the system... ...Which is ironic since I've been championning a division system since forever ago. Oh well, you know what they say... FML.

In a magical ideal world I would overhaul the power strucuture on this website like this: 1 ) Separate web designers and tournament rule makers. It's not the same tasks at all. One guy may be a link between the 2 but really, there should be more people in both areas and they should stick to their task in order to do them more efficiently / quickly. 2 ) Possibly you may even add people to do the day to day tournament administration (fixing game reports and other such minor things). 3 ) Make it harder to become the owner of a team and give owners more power to influence tournaments by making a board of owners that would be tasked with voting for / against rule changes and basically approving the product given by the rule makers, but voting doesn't have to be limited to that. 4 ) No 2 jobs at the same time. I find it ridiculous that NHLGamer staff can also be team owners. On an unrelated note, I like points 1, 2 and 4 in Dominointi's post. Do those please. -
To be honest I feel like I've seen worse shit happen in NHL17. Coz we're bad at the game, duh!

Ask them if they have any plans to make an e-sport out of the NHL series and if the standard EASHL builds are a step towards that. Or at least if they have plans to host again their end of year playoffs thing that they did in 09 and 10 in America, and by the way ask if there can be the same thing for Europeans.

Forget protecting the puck, L1 dekes etc. If you want to compete with moderate button skills (I assume you have moderate skill coz otherwise you wouldn't be asking for advice), you have to be able to defend, it's the only way to give yourself a chance to win. On offense, I reckon getting open when you don't have the puck is critical, and something you typically can't practise in, say, versus mode, so you just have to play a lot of club games. As for beating human goalies, I'll tell you when I beat one... As far as specific button pressing things, just copy what you see others do that works I guess. Playing with elite players makes it a lot easier to copy what they do than just playing against them. At least that's what I feel. Now, maybe my advice is crap because I am so shit at the NHL16 game. Sorry. Bye.

NHL 17 Beta Feedback - send yours right now
Billy44205 commented on gzell60's record in EA Sports NHL
The good: - Quality of connection is much better than NHL16 for me. Here's to hoping it will translate to the full game. The live ping thing is a welcome addition too. - Skating feels better. - Pokechecks being stronger is a good thing too. - The unlockable shit in EASHL is a nice feature. - The new player builds are not useless - The new layout looks nicer I guess... - Passes seem harder to make, which is also good. The bad: - The bug where games don't start. - Sometimes when you shoot from behind the goal line the human G will do sort of a 360° spin and backhand slap the puck into his own net. That's a little stupid. Overall I like the beta. -

Team BiggestEight vs team Billy. The post game comment thing once again didn't work. I've already entered the stats. Also. I think there's one too many penalty line so I didn't fill it. -
PSN: Billy44205 Position: any forward position and RD About me: I don't speak Swedish or Finnish but I do speak English very well. I guess I am very average as a player. Very good with tournament rules though so there's that... I reckon I'll be available on average 3 week days out of 5, and never on weekends. But at least I can warn about my availability in advance. On holiday after August 12th.

NHL Gamer welcomes you to the Draft ECL (Summer Cup) '16
Billy44205 commented on Kenu's record in Summer Cup
Are those questions for real? In what way can it be better to draft a worse player than you could? What is "a solid base"? How are average players more "solid" than elite players? I wrote that rule. The default game day and time is first and foremost a deadline before which teams had to schedule their game, and in the event that the game would never be scheduled, it would be assumed that teams were gonna play at default game time. And since it is primarily a deadline, it is defined by an instant, not a time window. Teams were always free to play one week before default game time, or one week after if they scheduled it. Please explain to me what part of the rule I got wrong. Now... What happens after teams haven't played their game after the last day of their default week? Isn't the end of that week effectively doing the same thing as the old default game time? I argue that there is no more freedom with that default week thing as there was before, you just warn team a week in advance that the deadline is in a week. Which is better, mind you, but only needed because people did not fully understand the flexibility of the old rule in the first place.- 7 comments

NHL Gamer welcomes you to the Draft ECL (Summer Cup) '16
Billy44205 commented on Kenu's record in Summer Cup
Hi. The rules haven't been published yet but I already have a couple questions. 1 ) Can you explain the reasoning behind the rule "All signed up players will be seeded into teams with a size of 8 players" ? Like, why did you choose to have the smallest size of team possible in a tournament where players might not be very available? Also, doesn't the smaller team size contradict the goal of playing with various players ? Or was that not one of the goals of this tournament ? 2 ) Can you explain how the rule "There will be default game weeks instead of default game days -> more freedom" will actually give more freedom? From my understanding the default game day/time was just the deadline to Schedule the game, and you had a 2 week window to play it. It just seems to me like you turned "default game day" into "last day of the default game week". I don't see the point, so can you explain why this leads to more freedom?- 7 comments

I promised myself I would stop trying to help this website only to end up more disappointed than all the guys who don't care about anything. Damnit. Anyway... @Ranksu @Kenu @gzell60 @janbonator @Lurkins Stop the poll Madness. Even if only 25% of ECL players sign up for this Summer Cup thing, it will be enough. Right now among people who voted 80% are up for the Summer Cup. Just make a sign up thread or something already rather than keep wondering if we should do this or that or whatever. Wondering forever will never get this website out of its CH-esque mediocrity. Make people sign up, make it so they have 15-ish members per team, appoint the team captains yourselves because those guys will be KEY in making this a good experience for everyone involved and you NEED to avoid troublemakers at all cost there. And then do the draft. I think I'll write something about the rules you may need for this sort of tournament a little later. Maybe. @FINSeRe As for how to carry out the draft, here's an idea: Do it like the real draft (kinda), live stream an event with a bunch of panelists who will comment on the choices as they come up, and with a chatbox to have viewer comments as well so the panelists can also rebound on them. Maybe only do the livestream for an hour or 2, and then finish it between the team captains and the admins (if they are not one and a same). Just use a Skype group chat or something like that between the captains and admins (and the panelists, as long as they're doing the event thing) to make the draft choices. Nothing too complicated imo. Also welcome back Jesus. Please don't blacklist me on your team, kthx.

ECL Rules, Season 2
Billy44205 replied to janbonator's topic in European Championship League - PS5 & Xbox Series X|S(6v6)
There aren't enough people playing G to have backups for every team. At the same time, does it really matter what positions people claim they play? If you have 6 and your usual G is not here and it's the last day to play, you just fucking play with a skater in net and pray, or you take the WO losses. Also I'm not cool with this rule bending shit to accomodate the worst planners. Since today is (or should have been I guess) the last day to play Malcowich guy should just prove he can play and get WO imo. What happened to instilling more rigor into this community? -

Future of the ECL seasons
Billy44205 replied to vSilenttio's topic in SportsGamer Feedback & Questions
On the topic of a 24-team division: I'm torn on whether it's better to have the bottom 4 or bottom 8 play relegation playoffs. I kind of like the idea that spots 16-20 have some value in that you at least stay in your division for sure, as opposed to the 21-24 spots. But if people would rather put themselves at more risk to go down a division to play more ECL games I guess I'm fine with every non-playoff team going to relegation stage. By the way, 24 teams means 2 groups (or conferences if you want to use fancy real life-ish terms) and most likely it also means 2 divisions each made of 2 groups, with the lower one having a variable size depending on the number of teams registered. It may sound obvious but I just want to present everyone with all the implications of the initial choices made in a given scenario. @pnordetun If there are conferences inside divisions it will be because the divisions size is too big to have teams play against everyone. At 24 teams, and even more so at 30 teams, you have to cut a division in 2 groups and you won't play against everyone. I don't really like the idea of only playing against half your division which is why I like a smaller division size better. -
Future of the ECL seasons
Billy44205 replied to vSilenttio's topic in SportsGamer Feedback & Questions
Wow @vSilenttio you're stepping up your wall-of-text game, impressive! lol I definitely, DEFINITELY agree that 3 ECL seasons a year should be the new norm. I had a rough estimate at 2.5 months for each tournament, add 2-3 weeks between seasons, basically the same stuff that you mention. HOWEVER, I also think 30 teams in the top division defeats the purpose of divisions. You just know the top teams will smash the 25-30 ranked team there, and isn't this what you guys want to avoid? Also the bigger the division the safer the top teams are that they will stay there forever. I think Chimera mentioned something like wanting a very small division size so that every team would be threatened with relegation, not that I share his opinion but at least that's a valid argument. With that said, if most people wanted a chance to face the top dogs (and the probability of being smashed) I would prioritize that over what the top-guys minority may want and a big top division cut into 2 groups would indeed be best, I guess, however "inelegant" it looks to me. I have been thinking about all this (a LOT) and I still say that 3 divisions are best, always have and I have stated my reasons in the past so I won't repeat myself but let me just add that 3 or 2 or however many divisions should not be more or less complicated to manage imo. If not of equal size, then I'd like maybe 15 teams in top and bottom divisions (8-team playoffs), and the rest in the middle division (8 or 16-team playoffs depending on division size I guess). I'd do 7-game series in top playoffs, 5 games in middle division and 3-game series in bottom division, then include some sort of promotion/relegation playoffs. As for tournament schedules I'd have ECL1 October to mid-December, ECL2 mid-January to enf of March, and ECL3 mid-April to end of June. Then maybe Summer Cup sometime after that. -
Also, 30 teams in top division is like, the majority of teams. It's not a good idea. And I'm pretty sure the 30th team would get smashed by the top teams so it's not preventing what you guys want to prevent. On a more general note I dislike the emphasis on good gaming experience for top teams. I think it's not only unfair for the bad teams, but it's also counter-productive in growing the community. If newcomers can only experience the worst part of ECL then chances are they will GTFO. And OH MY GOD I designed systems that make any number of divisions for any team, sticking together or mixing or new or anything that can happen. Stop saying divisions force teams into sticking together and that's why it will fail. That is not true. * Sorry for going off-topic, Patovic. I mean it was off-topic before I intervened but...Whatever.
-
Only if you make it so, but you don't have to. Have you not read my previous wall of text about division systems? Anyway, a system that forces new teams into bottom division is gonna have people complaining before it has people sticking together despite not wanting to play together anymore. I think it's stupid to put team longevity ahead of player enjoyment.
-
@pnordetun I don't understand why this system would have teams stick together more. Can you elaborate on that? @gzell60 I miswrote. I was thinking about something vaguely similar to what I have seen on LG. Reading again what I wrote I'm not sure what I meant. Also, I don't want to talk about divisions here. Can you guys post your division-related ideas in the dedicated topic I had created please? It could use a thread bump, too.
-
@pnordetun I think what you describes is more like European football leagues rather than NHL, since you talk about franchises going up and down the divisions. Forget team names, I do think the core idea (if I understood correctly) of fixed teams, for instance exactly 15 per division in exactly 3 divisions , has its perks, mainly in terms of organizing all that shit and probably a bit for freelance players. The big downside is most certainly a deal breaker for most of the community though imo, as you basically can't assemble a bunch of guys and say "here is my new club and we're joining ECL". FWIW I'd be in favor of something sort of like what you described. I can't be bothered explaining in depth what I just wrote, good luck understanding me. EDIT: What the fuck am I talking about?!? It makes little sense. I'm too sleep deprived.

So here's my take on this Summer Cup thing. I think teams are not active in Summer because a few guys are away and even if like half the team is still willing to play it's not enough to play 6's. I also think Summer Inc was a great thing which allowed my clubless ass to play with Oodap, Supremski, Terasniska etc. Basically I really enjoyed playing with new people (especially the excellent ones) even if games meant nothing. Lastly, I know it's Summer and no one wants a tight schedule in Summer damnit! With all that in mind I came up with this concept: - I need a small-ish amount of team captains, like maybe 4 or 8 individuals. So that would make for rather big teams. Maybe those guys are tournament admins. - Instead of teams, individuals sign up for the Summer Cup. - Teams are devised by snake draft, to add a dimension of mixing teams up. - Every team makes the playoffs. The goal of this tournament being less about competing and more about killing time and fun, I think it's ok. This is very much a work in progress and I have not addressed any of the boring techincal rules shit, but you get the gist of it. It's something fresh, not too bothersome, admittedly not so competitive but... I dunno. But you're on to something Sile, I think.
