Hey @Billy44205 thanks for this. Can you verify that the issue still remains with the new front-end as well. The position in the team page is selected by 'preferred position', which he can set under the 'Edit player' page. I believe he has set his preferred position as a forward even though he has tagged his positions as LD and RD. Please check with him. :)

The issue had been fixed at some point (I think...), but with the new front end it has appeared again.

  2. I had to check the ECL3 rules again because what you described seemed wrong. Let me clarify things,a dn keep in mind this is from ECL3 rules and may change in the very near future (altho it probably won't change that much).

So there is a difference between free agents and transferred players.

Free agents are guys who have not joined a team in the tournament yet. There is no limit to how many of these you can add.

Transferred players are guys who are on a team roster according to NHLGamer and are moving from a team to another. You can add up to 3 of these in a tournament. And guys can only transfer once.

Right now everyone is basically a free agent (except team captains) so feel free to add your 2 guys.

  3. Throwback Thursday!

So for a brief period of time during NHL15 we called ourselves Church of Hockey and during our EHL quarter finals this happened:

We went on to win that series and then, well... This happened:

"Silentini-tinio-whatever the fuck your name is, you're just a bitch, man" - Best quote. ;)

LeagueGaming has very good things that could be added here also. There is lot of different things but there is also lot of more admins than we have in nhlgamer.

And yes, LeaugeGaming has some nice concepts.

For the people who don't know. What more do you want added from LeaugeGaming?

Yeah Leaguegaming is awesome and I'll go as far as to say I wish our community would have joined that website instead of creating this one. What's done is done now though so meh...

Leaguegaming is several years ahead of NHLGamer any way you look at it. I mean, they have a smartphone app that allows you (among any other things)  to take game stats through OCR! In my opinion NHLGamer is never ever catching up on the technological side of things and there's no point even discussing it. On the organizational side however it should be easier to go towards implementing some things like:

    - The power structure is clean and well defined and they are appropriately staffed. And yes that means there's a lot of people involved. To be honest their community is a lot more involved than ours. It's only the 3rd time I'm advocating a better power structure on this website guys. 10 more times and it might finally happen (like the division system lol).

    - Their rulebook is stupidly big but also beautifully designed. No need to take the entire book (more like fucking encyclopedia) but some parts of it, sure why not?

    - 3 tournaments per year

    - The equivalent of their CanAm tournament, which would be I guess SWE/FIN/Other tournament for us.

    - A tracker for player infractions and bans and all that.

    - A LOT more media content. Like, weekly podcasts for each division + written articles by several different people for each division.

As far as I know there is no interest among European players in the classic LG league format which is very different from club tournaments (but of course now LG also has club tournaments on top of their classic leagues).

  5. Pens will win the Cup again. Book it.

Also I jinxed it. So Chicago will win instead. Damnit.

Blue Jackets biggest surprise by far. No one thought a Tortorella-coached team would do well, let alone lead the NHL. Tampa Bay struggling is a surprise for me too.

    Early awards predictions:

    Art Ross: Crosby

    Hart: Dubnyk

    Lindsay: Crosby

    Richard: Crosby

    Norris: Burns

    Selke: Koivu

    Vezina: Dubnyk

  6. Company of Geeks!!!

The old gang is looking to make a comeback on the NHL scene worthy of the CoG name. At the very least we need:

    - a Defenseman

    - a Goalie

But we also need more players (preferably able to play several positions) in order to be active enough. The core of the team has played together for years and we have plenty of ECL experience. If you want to join the Geeks' ride back to their rightful status, go ahead and contact us:

Billy44205 on PSN or on NHLGamer

Ralfduran on PSN or Jesus on NHLGamer

  7. Company of Geeks!!!

We may use this thread for advertising things, like twitch streams if we ever get around to do it, or podcasts if we ever revive them as well. Who knows...

  8. The user name thing goes beyond game reporting. Everywhere I see player names in any kind of list, I think "I wish they would show user names / PSN ID's instead". I remember having a discussion about this long ago and someone stupidly told me "but it looks more like real sports where they use their real names on jerseys" or some shit like that. That person was DEAD WRONG.

  9. Yeah I don't trust NHLGamer staff enough to gladly surrender too much power to them. Also we don't have access to EA Vancouver devs lol.

    Also according to this :

    http://cdn2.esl.tv/fileadmin/user_upload/Rainbow6/Tom_Clancys_Rainbow_Six_Season-3_Rulebook_2016.pdf

The rulebook for this Pro League is 22 pages long. So much for general guidelines...

I'm basically on Egyptologen's side on this matter, although I guess I can live with admins voiding (note that they don't punish the team, they just void one game) results such as the FR vs SSG game. Maybe. Then again this is one tricky thing because isn't it like, way easy to fake a goalie freeze glitch and us it to your advantage? I dunno, I'm not interested in getting into the specifics and it's someone else's job.

  10. If I'm not mistaken the staff have already demonstrated the ability to amend rules on the fly when issues were brought up, such as the arena props thing. So that's a non-issue imo.

Now, should there be a rule about players freezing similar to players disconnecting? Sure why not? I think everyone agrees here. It's a little unfair to blame them for not having the amendment ready when this was the first instance where people complained about this glitch in any significant way. Non-issue.

Should the rules be updated? Of course. For instance the disconnection rules are written for NHL16 at a time when club challenges were not possible. And let's face it, the people who chose to give one team the choice between leaving immediately and waiting till the end of the period, those people were wrong. Since once again everyone seems to be in favor of leaving games right when people disconnect it should be the rule in the future. There's a few items like this that need rethinking. The book is already updated every season. Could it be done better? Sure, and I myself complained about the rulebook updates that I believe are retarded. But at least the process is ongoing, it's just a matter of resources on the task imo. Issue? Meh, kinda but not really...

Back to the FR vs SSG incident, I have not followed the story that much but if the staff made a ruling about this occurrence of the freezing glitch, at least it sets a precedent for the remainder of the tournament, or as I said they can just add a rule like they have already done in this very tournament. If they don't do either of these things, THEN you can complain about the staff. Yay!

One last thing: The staff already has plenty ernough power, and in fact I would advocate for them to have less, but that would come with more accountability from other people. I have written in the ECL wishlist thread that I wanted to see a board of team GM's that would be, among other things, tasked with approving rulebooks and rule changes on the fly throughout seasons. I think it's time people embraced the rulebook which is the key to this tournament structure, rather than take it for granted and then complain about détails. Of course, if you've already embraced it, you are free to complain about it to your heart's content and in a constructive way. Like I do lol.

  11. In a magical ideal world I would overhaul the power strucuture on this website like this:

1 ) Separate web designers and tournament rule makers. It's not the same tasks at all. One guy may be a link between the 2 but really, there should be more people in both areas and they should stick to their task in order to do them more efficiently / quickly.

2 ) Possibly you may even add people to do the day to day tournament administration (fixing game reports and other such minor things).

3 )  Make it harder to become the owner of a team and give owners more power to influence tournaments by making a board of owners that would be tasked with voting for / against rule changes and basically approving the product given by the rule makers, but voting doesn't have to be limited to that.

4 ) No 2 jobs at the same time. I find it ridiculous that NHLGamer staff can also be team owners.

On an unrelated note, I like  points 1, 2 and 4 in Dominointi's post. Do those please.

  12. Forget protecting the puck, L1 dekes etc. If you want to compete with moderate button skills (I assume you have moderate skill coz otherwise you wouldn't be asking for advice), you have to be able to defend, it's the only way to give yourself a chance to win. On offense, I reckon getting open when you don't have the puck is critical, and something you typically can't practise in, say, versus mode, so you just have to play a lot of club games. As for beating human goalies, I'll tell you when I beat one...

As far as specific button pressing things, just copy what you see others do that works I guess. Playing with elite players makes it a lot easier to copy what they do than just playing against them. At least that's what I feel.

Now, maybe my advice is crap because I am so shit at the NHL16 game. Sorry. Bye.
