Yeah, not saying that there couldn't be better system but just simply going with seeds is not less problematic. In addition to this, there are more games in playoffs than in the regular season, so the importance of the regular season is decreasing round by round.
Maybe a system where you would also get points for games played in the playoffs and these would be added on top of the regular season points. However, this might be quite difficult for teams to follow if it couldn't be shown in real time.

It makes sense to look deeper than group rankings when there are multiple groups. So we’ve reacted to situations in the past and moved spears and horses aside.

They already had an advantage when they were allowed to play against a lower seeded team but were unable to take advantage of it.
This has been a practice for as long as I can remember and how the teams will be seeded for the coming season has been known to everyone. So I think there is nothing unfair in the situation, the team that wins more games in the playoffs will end up higher.

Description
ECL Elite is the gold standard of European virtual hockey and with that also has the biggest prize pool and most visibility. The division features a full regular season with best-of-seven playoffs, broadcasts will be aired on every default gameday. The License fee for participation is 400€ for each team.

Teams will not be promoted straight and all open spots will be filled through qualifiers (excluding automatically relegated/promoted teams). If there happens to be more open spots than anticipated (e.g. from teams disbanding which would have been invited to play in the qualifier) spots are filled as follows:

To prevent teams from taking advantage, specifically recruiting players to bolster your chances in the qualifier that have no intention of remaining in the team beyond that, we have decided to enforce a soft roster lock post qualifier play.

If a former Elite player wants to participate in a qualifier for a Wildcard, Pro or Lite team, then they will be locked into that division at where the team ends up throughout the season
- Transfer to a lower division is possible

If a former Pro player wants to participate in a qualifier for a wildcard, Pro or Lite team, then they will be locked into that division at where the team ends up for 2 weeks (starting from the first game played in Pro that season)
- Transfer to a lower division is possible

If a former Elite player wants to participate in a qualifier for a Wildcard, Pro or Lite team, then they will be locked into that division at where the team ends up throughout the season
- Lite & Pro Qualifiers are part of the season so it is good to remember that only one transfer is allowed during the season

A Wildcard team is a newly created team consisting of experienced community members with such experience and skill that could warrant playing at a higher level than the one the current team would otherwise be assigned to. Alternatively, a team that has strengthened significantly over the offseason can also be considered a Wildcard team.
How many Wildcard spots are there?
There are always four Wildcard spots up for grabs in the Pro and Lite divisions.How are Wildcard spots decided?
If there are more Wildcard eligible teams than spots are available, Wildcard qualifiers will be played. The final format is determined by the number of teams and the lineups of the registered teams (for example, if eight teams meet the Pro Wildcard requirements, then four of those will play in the Lite qualifiers and there is no room for those who have registered for the Lite Wildcard).

Because of a total of 7 eligible teams the Wildcard Battle will be played and the four best teams will be playing in the Pro Qualifier. The format for the Pro Wildcard battle will be a group stage where each of the teams faces each other twice. The three teams that don't make the top 4 and thus don't make the Pro Qualifiers will be playing in the Lite Qualifiers.

To prevent teams from taking advantage, specifically recruiting players to bolster your chances in the qualifier that have no intention of remaining in the team beyond that, we have decided to enforce a soft roster lock post qualifier play.

If a former Elite player wants to participate in a qualifier for a Wildcard, Pro or Lite team, then they will be locked into that division at where the team ends up throughout the season
- Transfer to a lower division is possible

If a former Pro player wants to participate in a qualifier for a Wildcard, Pro or Lite team, then they will be locked into that division at where the team ends up for 2 weeks (starting from the first game played in Pro that season)
- Transfer to a lower division is possible

If a former Elite player wants to participate in a qualifier for a Wildcard, Pro or Lite team, then they will be locked into that division at where the team ends up throughout the season
- Wildcard Qualifiers and Lite & Pro Qualifiers are part of the season so it is good to remember that only one transfer is allowed during the season
- Teams with a Lite division spot can apply for Wildcard status for Pro Qualifiers without losing their spot

Alkuun iso pahoittelu kaikille pelaajille tämänpäiväisistä teknisistä ongelmista. Nettisivujen toimivuus näissä turnauksissa on ensisijaisen tärkeää ja lauantain suoritus nettisivujen osalta ei vastannut laisinkaan niitä standardeja mitä haluamme pelaajillemme tarjota.
Teidän palautteenne perusteella halusimme tarjota pelaajillemme parhaan mahdollisen pudotuspelisysteemin isolle pelaajamäärälle, jossa ensimmäisestä tappiosta ei joudu laulukuoroon ja valitsimme tämän takia Double Eliminationin. Tämä on sivustollamme uusi pelisysteemi ja valitettavasti sitä ei oltu testattu tarpeeksi ja lopputulos oli nähtävissä sivuston jäätyilyn ja puuttuvien nappien muodossa. Jatkamme töitä yön läpi alkuperäisten ongelmien korjaamiseksi, mutta olemme huomista varten varmistelleet yksinkertaisen ratkaisun, jolla pystymme varmistamaan pelien etenemisen sivustomme tilasta riippumatta.
Ymmärrämme joidenkin pelaajien turhautumisen ja olemme erittäin kiitollisia kaikille, jotka omalla oma-aloitteisuudellaan auttoivat turnauksen kulkua isoimman kysymystulvan aikana.
Toivomme, että kokemuksenne huomenna ja jatkossa NHLGamerin kanssa ovat mieluisat ja toivotamme onnea huomisiin peleihin!

Otteluiden raportoiminen
- Ottelun voittaja syöttää ottelun tuloksen ja tilastot
- Ottelujen lopputulokset syötetään NHLGamer.com -sivustolla TEAM TOOLS-valikon kautta, painamalla REPORT MATCH (tämä tulee näkyviin turnauksen alkaessa, noin kello 12)

Tämän jälkeen valitaan oikean otteluparin kohdalla “Submit stats”
- Ottelusta syötetään maalit, oliko kyseessä jatkoaika, laukaukset, taklaukset, hyökkäysalueaika, rangaistusten määrä (2min rangaistus = 1) ja aloitusvoitot. Voit myös halutessasi kirjoittaa pienen tekstin pelistä.
- Suosittelemme varmuuden vuoksi tallentamaan todisteet jokaisen ottelun tuloksesta (esim. viimeisen 30 sekunnin tallenne, missä näkyvät molemmat otteluissa pelaavat PSN ID:t ja ottelun loppuyhteenveto (tilastot). Näitä ei tarvitse toimittaa mihinkään kuin mahdollisissa kiistatilanteissa.
