To continue the conversation from the old thread... Now that the season is almost over for everyone, I would like to start a discussion about the upcoming tournaments and the ability bans. After playing the game more, I have to admit that I’ve started to doubt the “ban them all” approach. Why do I think we need abilities? I feel that the whole game has developed around the abilities, and I have a feeling that it will turn into a lot of turtle defense vs. turtle defense if all the abilities are banned. It could also force players to use builds that they normally wouldn't want to use. I propose banning all the Elite abilities. The currently allowed gold and blue abilities are pretty well-balanced. You could also keep the currently allowed gold abilities only if the community prefers that. Another interesting option would be allowing only one (gold or blue) ability per player. Please share your opinions. Does anyone else have doubts about the “ban them all” approach like I do?

I do want to point out that banning all the traits will probably lead to more turtle defence and more emphasis on counters and rushes. Less shooting traits -> harder to be a threat from outside the middle in the o-zone -> just plug the middle with five guys if you’re the defending team. Also, no second wind -> less energy for everyone -> more reloading energy before breaking out and also more trapping -> more slow breakouts, less fast breakouts and less rushes in general -> probably a less entertaining game for the players and the viewers

I agree with all of that 100%. We have also tried games without abilities and imo it makes gameplay much more "force hockey/crash the net" than it is now already. As a dman interceptions and sticklifts are enough bad already so personally i dont need more that kind of gameplay... Without abilities there is not any kind of onetimer threats or far distance shot threats and that allows people to play that "turtle defence". Lets keep same rules/bans like in this last ECL or then keep same bans but only allow gold and/or blue versions of abilities (=ban elite versions). And if we are going to ban elite abilities then ban those elite abilities from goalies also. I hope like there will come some kind of public voting poll from sportsgamer side so everyone is having a chance to affect desicion. Its better that way than small group is making that kind of desicion. Let community decide.

Ban all the elite ones, and keep the bans as they are (maybe allow Elite Edges, but thats just my opinion)

Keep the abilities as they are now to avoid turtle defense. Maybe ban orange abilities if anything. Goalies i dont know anything other than that sponge looks illegally good.

Just ban blue and orange abilities and allow only gold ones. (Also keeping current perk bans) Will give some extra flavour to gameplay but nothing too OP or ridiculous. If you cant score without abusing blue or orange perks, nor if you cant make a save without them, then you just suck

Not sure if I’m for or against banning all the traits, so not gonna comment on that yet. But as for Elite Edges: doesn’t it trigger the random stumbling animations more in opposing players? If that’s the case then definitely keep it banned (don’t want that added rng). If it’s not the case then I have nothing against it.
