I think sponge might be a bit of confirmation bias more than anything else tbh. Of course it's gonna light up on 'crazy' saves, it's designed to light up on every save basically on account of it impacting controlled save ability (note: this does not mean save ability in general because it seems like a weird distinction to make by EA if it did) and cover speed, which could be applied to almost every save ever. At the same time, if a save isn't made it's obviously not gonna activate the trait designed to corral rebounds (the puck is in the net, rip rebound).

Tip for new players: play every night, put yourself out there in free for night discord, play for every team, get your name out there and then you will find team. biggest problem with new guys they play only with friend groups and noone actualy know them - captains not gonna pick guy who they dont know. first year you actualy need to beg for position to captains, private message them and say you want to play for them say something about self to them, litteraly beg for attention. lot of guys want to go lite and think they are good enough, skipping neo and core. Dont do that, lite team will not pick you if your name is not known. Go for neo or core, they will give you chance, even if you think you are better and skilled, prove yourself in lower division and get your reputation. try to Play every friday night Thats how i got in to scene, i just played a lot of games with different teams and they started to see me and asked to play for them.

Hi, thanks for asking - I'll add it to the article for clarity! The backup rule itself remains unchanged, but we did clarify the writing a bit more (I hope) for this year: "Teams may register up to three players designated as backups. Each backup may appear in no more than 10 games combined during ECL ’26 (Winter + Spring, including qualifiers, regular season, and playoffs). All backups must be listed on the team’s official roster."

ECL ’26: Winter Sign-Ups Now Open – Join Europe’s Premier eHockey League
Guillaume Buhler commented on Kenu's record in ECL
Hello, I don't see any mention of backup licenses. Can we find out more please? -
ECL ’26: Winter Sign-Ups Open – Time for a New Season of European eHockey The new ECL ’26: Winter season is approaching, and registration is now open for teams and players across Europe. The ECL is the leading European competition played in the EA SPORTS™ NHL franchise, featuring structured divisions for all skill levels. Since 2015, the European Championship League (ECL) has been the main stage for competitive eHockey in Europe, bringing together players in a 6v6 format where every position on the ice is player-controlled. With divisions suited for all levels—from newcomers to top-tier teams—the ECL continues to offer a structured and competitive environment for everyone looking to test their skills. This winter marks the start of another competitive chapter in European eHockey. As teams prepare their rosters and strategies, anticipation builds for what’s to come. With registration now open, the new season offers every team a chance to prove themselves on the ice. The European Championship League (ECL) is Europe’s premier competitive league for organized 6v6 eHockey, played in the EA SPORTS™ NHL franchise. Featuring multiple divisions from Elite to Neo, as well as a 1v1 competition, the ECL offers players of all skill levels a structured and competitive environment. Every skater and goaltender is fully human-controlled, with all games played in EASHL mode on PlayStation and Xbox. Established in 2015, the ECL now enters its 21st season with a thriving community of players. The league also features ECL 1v1, introduced in the ECL ’23 Winter season, where Europe’s best solo players compete for the championship. Basic information/requirements of ECL: Regional restrictions: ECL is a European tournament format, however, we do not necessarily exclude players located in North America or Asia. A European server will always be used. We reserve the right to exclude teams or players in case of severe connection issues. Individual requirements: Each player needs to have an account at SportsGamer.GG and create their personal player card. ECL licenses: Teams in ECL Elite & ECL Pro, ECL Lite, and ECL Core will require their respective ECL ‘26: Winter team licenses in order to play. In addition, every player in the above-mentioned divisions needs to have a valid ECL ‘26: Player License or ECL ‘26: Winter Player License before taking the ice. Players in ECL Neo require only an ECL '26: Winter Neo Player License. You will find more information about the licenses lower in this article. Teams may also register up to three backup players, who can be used as substitutes during the season. Each backup may appear in a maximum of 10 games combined across both the Winter and Spring seasons, including qualifiers, regular season, and playoffs. All backups must be listed on the team’s official roster before participating in any game. The ECL '26 Pre-Season tournament does not require the license Rules: ECL '26: Winter - Official Rules. If you're a team looking to use your previous winnings toward a license, please contact support for assistance. ECL '26 LICENSES WILL BE AVAILABLE FROM NOVEMBER 16, USING THIS LINK The ECL Neo division does not require a team license; however, ECL Neo players are required to have an active Player license at a cost of 10 EUR per season. Please refer to this ECL Ranking in order to understand which teams are eligible to sign up for each division. The ECL prize pool will be determined directly by community participation. Each season, a share of the collected license-fee income is distributed back to players as prize money across all divisions. How it works For the ECL ’26: Winter season, at least 35% of net license-fee income (after VAT and transaction fees) will be paid out as prize money. The initial prize pool estimate will be published before the start of the season, based on confirmed team and player registrations at that time. If additional licenses are purchased during the season, the final prize pool will be adjusted accordingly and disclosed once all registrations are complete. Full-year license fees are evenly divided between the Winter and Spring seasons. Why this structure? Prize pool shares reflect each division’s competitive level and progression within the ECL structure — ensuring that advancement through the divisions is both meaningful and rewarding. The distribution between divisions remains consistent with previous ECL seasons. For more specific information about the division-specific prize pool distribution, please see the ECL '26: Winter - Official Rules or this forum post. Rule Changes The updated ECL '26: Winter Official Rules are now available. All team captains are expected to familiarize themselves with the rulebook before the season begins. Here's a snapshot of some of the major adjustments/additions compared to ECL ‘25: Spring: 9.2.3.: Players taking the face-off are strictly forbidden from reverse hitting directly following the face-off 11.7.: Banned Player Abilities, Builds & Positional Builds section has been significantly updated Some final details, as a closer approximation of the prize pool, will be updated to the rules closer to the start of the season. Banned Player Abilities, Builds & Positional Builds You can read about and discuss player abilities and bans here. Are there some rule-related changes we’ve missed? Now is your chance to discuss and suggest what type of changes you would like to see in the rulebook. PLEASE NOTE: ECL '26: WINTER 1v1 SIGNUPS WILL LAUNCH LATER THIS YEAR. The ECL ’26: Winter season marks the next step in our ongoing commitment to structured, high-quality European eHockey competition. Whether you’re joining for the first time or returning to defend your title, we look forward to seeing you on the ice this winter. 🔗 Sign up now and be part of the action!

I think best way is to not make pro, elite teams matchmaking password public, so this password will know only pro team captains and problem solved. Also.in discord dont allow everyone sit pro or elite channel only current pros or elite guys.

TIPS: How to find a team or players for your team (NHL 26)
Edgard_gcn commented on Tzon93's record in ECL
Quick question. Instead of doing everything on forums (it's old lol), why don't we create a new "FREE AGENT" access page with the ability to rank players based on the division they previously played in? Sorted by division. Because the forum is problematic because when a NEO/CORE player is looking for a club, or similarly for a NEO/CORE club looking for a player, they end up right in the middle of 20 messages from Elite and Pro players/clubs, so they have no visibility... I don't really know how to explain it, but there you go. -

SportGamers, Our community is growing with new members every year. From time to time we are asked for tips on how to find a team or how to find players for your team. In this post, we have put together a few links to our forum where you can either search for a team or sign up as a free agent. You'll also find some tips at the end, that might be just what you need to connect with that new group of potential teammates. This post is mainly intended for the European audience that is interested in playing in the European Championship League. Free Agents EU - PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series X|S In this forum section, you can register as a free agent or search for new players for your team. You will find a "reply to topic" section under the last message on the page where you can post your own free agent message. In this message, you can briefly tell us about yourself, what position you are looking to play, and how to best reach you. Please note that a community account is required in order to post a message. Please also note that this forum section is only for free agent messages. Free Agency Team feature Last season we tested a feature to have the free agency status appear on the player card of free agents. We got some good feedback, so we'll continue running this. If you wish to participate, send a private message to @SG Free Agent Admin with your PSN ID/Gamertag. You will receive an invitation to the Free Agent team on SportsGamer and by accepting it, this will give you the status visible on your player card. Please note that the invitation is usually not immediate and can take some time. Also, note that whatever positions and favorite position you have selected on your player card when accepting the invitation is what will appear in your free agency profile. You can browse the Free Agent team here. Once you find a new team you can join it right away and send a message to @SG Free Agent Admin (who is the captain of the Free Agent team), and you will be removed from the free agency. While this new approach will help list free agents and offer an additional way to be seen, for the best result in finding a team we still recommend following the other tips in this news story! EU Clubs looking for players - PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series X|S In this section of the forum, you can let everyone know when your team is looking for players, which means free agents can find teams by browsing this thread. You will find a "reply to topic" section under the last message on the page. Here you can write your "club looking for players" post where you tell us about the club and what kind of player you are looking for. You can look for good tips for your post in the numerous posts written by other clubs. Please note that both of the above-mentioned forum threads are meant only for writing the "ads". When you see something you're interested in, please use private messaging (e.g. SportGamer, Discord, PSN or Xbox Live) to contact them. Usually, the writer of the post will let you know how best to get in touch. So here is your reminder: whenever you post, remember to mention how to best get in touch with you. Useful tips In addition to these previous tools, we recommend you to be active and try to play as much as possible. On our Discord server, you will find a section called "free for tonight" In this section, you can sign up for free play and of course, if you're lucky you might find some people that want to play with you in the future. Another good tip that works is to add "FA" or "Free Agent" to your player's name in the game so that your teammates and opponents can see during the game that you are looking for a team. There you have it! We hope you find these tips useful. Feel free to share your advice in the comments. Good luck finding the perfect match!

We have been using ECLLite password lately and there has been games .. not long waiting periods in lobby. I also like to play quite activilely so I visit another teams also and sometimes ECLPro games so its bit different when playing with mixed teams. Maybe easiest way is just dodge if you dont want to play against some team, it might be frustrating and take some time to find you actually want to play against. Sometimes teams dont play even if they are in same level in ECL... so its not always so easy to find game.
-
Good points. Lite has what, 64 teams? If they actually used the password for Lite teams, a Lite team finding another Lite team would be easier than any other way of matchmaking in the game.
-
I'm not sure if I understood your question correctly, but if you mean what I think you mean, see Page 13 in the ECL Rules for section 5.3 “Backer” role. If that's not what you meant, please explain in more detail and we'll do our best to help out.

I think a solution could be to have a new password for Elite and Pro teams and keep ECLPro as is where teams can search games with ECL rules regardless of their division.
-
Rally english, here I come. I see here 2 options. Option 1: All teams (Lite, Pro) , (Elite?) can search Pro-password. If you dont like your opponent, dodge it and try find a new one. If you want play more competetive games, then you need arrange private game. Option 2: We must force ALL Lite teams (Core?) use Lite-password. And all teams need to know this. If all Lite teams uses it like pro-password, games will find easy. But there is "what if" problem always...(mixed teams, last season in Pro/Elite. etc...) Again, if you dont like your opponent, dodge it and find a new one. "just arrange bo3 games" is not an option for Lite teams if they cant use pro-password. Lite-password need to be popular. If Lite-password are not popular, then all the teams search with Pro-password... So far, my team havent found any games with Lite-password... Also late night games; If clock is like 23.00 (fin time) and Lite (Core?)team is going to search with Lite-password and games not found. Its very stupid, if Lite team must go to normal broken search and cant try with pro-password. At the time, most of teams are mixed and its good for everyone, if you can find an opponent elsewhere than in normal broken search...

I think the suggestion is identical to the current situation, only with a different password. The non-competitive teams would start using the new password as soon as they got wind of it, which would be soon enough. Also, the dodging team waiting before searching again is already the unwritten rule. Not everyone adheres to it though, as a lot of teams just dodge and search again right away. This would also not change. The public matchmaking system is definitely broken, but ECLPro was created by a Pro team for the purpose of practicing with other Pro teams. It was basically just a shortcut around Pro teams having to set up private games on Discord or wherever. Now it's rare for a Pro team to find another Pro team using the password. It's not on these teams to fix the matchmaking system. The reason it's next to impossible to find a decent competitive game without using this password is exactly because everyone is using it. Honestly, I don't mind the password games including any teams from the lower divisions that are actually good enough for the game not to be a complete waste of time. We all know these teams exist, and we all know Pro has teams that are worse than some in the lower divisions. The problem is that everyone thinks their team is good enough to compete with Pro teams, which is obviously not the case. This is why limiting each password to teams in its corresponding division would be the solution. It removes any ambiguity around who "deserves" to use a specific password. Enforcing the passwords is probably not realistic, so I agree with you and tbnantti on that point. My posts go back to all the wasted time against teams that any Pro team would beat with their hands tied behind their backs.

Can you have two captains from different divisions in a team?
-

The reason why Lite-Neo teams search with ECLPro is simply because the public matchmaking is so bad you have to dodge non-competitive & bot-filled teams multiple times. That’s on EA, don’t blame the teams for just trying to find a damn game. I represent these teams and I have never found an opponent with ECLLite. How about one password for all competitive practice games, the team who dodges waits a bit before searching again to avoid re-matching. This way we could a) increase matchmaking pool, b) filter the matchmaking to competitive human-filled teams only, and lastly c) teams can dodge if they don’t want to play. Current system is never going to work without mods and who has time for that?

Enforcing this would be an overreach and teams will still use the most widely used password if they can’t find a game. So while it’s a nice idea, the community will carry on doing what they’re doing.

The first line in that ability is literally absord shots. I have tried it in goal myself and it was op and I have shot againts it and it was still op. It is the one that is always activating when impossible save happens.
