First screenshots of the actual site

Hey NHL Gamers,

As we near the release of the actual league side of our website, it's time to raise the curtain a bit regarding what the site looks like.

I have attached some screenshots below, where you can see a little sneak peak of things to come. Please keep in mind that the images do not represent the final product and changes will be made before release and we will continue to develop it after release as well. It's also good to note that just because something isn't visible in the screenshots, doesn't mean it isn't a feature.

Please feel free to come with questions and comments and we'll answer your questions as best as we can.

Until next time,

Kenneth

Thanks!

Samuli spends more time in the box than he does on the ice. :)

It does look really cool. Now, have you decided what stats are gonna be recorded? I suppose this is only a concept and you included all the game stats but we're not gonna record stuff like time of penalties taken for instance.

I don't think that's up to you to decide @Billy44205, but of course these are things that are up for discussion.

We will tell you more about the stats side soon. I am hoping people would be fine with recording the penalty times for the penalty their team takes. While it might feel useless, it opens up a whole new world of analysis. What if we could tell you when your team takes the most penalties, how your penalty kill is working and if there's a certain time-frame when things are going worse than others? We're not quite there yet with the analysis part, but by collecting the relevant data, we are able to do a bunch of cool stats in the future.

Of course analysis is not everyone's cup of tea and we are building the features so that we can choose what fields are must fill and what fields are optional. I'm hoping the penalty times is not something people are against reporting, but as I mentioned, it will of course be taken into consideration.

Ok I see your point. It was a wrong assumption on my part. Looks like I won't be reporting games anytime soon anyway so that doesn't change anything for me and I reckon some people will share your enthusiasm about more advanced stats (am I right, @MartindalexC ?? ;)).

Sounds as ambitious as I hoped this project would be. Great ideas right there.

And that's why I hope you make us record more stats than Consolehockey did. It's not like anyone will complain if submitting a result takes 8 instead of 5 minutes.

I'm glad you like it.

I'm sure a lot of people might complain if you cross a certain line, but I hope we can find a balance between awesome and fast. :)

I did complain lol.

Also one more thing I'm gonna complain about even though I don't really care, I think using player names in all those things is stupid. It's better to use gamertags and PSN ID's. It's one of the things I always found stupid on CH, and I think it's one less table to record in your database maybe? I dunno...

I couldn't disagree more Billy. In my opinion using full names makes things more authentic and a simulation of real life. That's why I play - cause I failed at real life. ;)

The problem I have with using player names for "real life" and "simulation" purposes are of 2 kinds:

 - Privacy: I don't want to give away my real name to just anyone.

 - Confusion: Several guys use the same player name. Not only that, people also change player names for maximum confusion. I don't know if you can change PSN ID's but I reckon it's like gamertags and it happens far less often than changing player names in NHL.

So those are my arguments against use of player names and real names. Even though it might feel better for some to use player names, I am convinced that using PSN's works better. Besides, on the topic of real life, simulation and taking things seriouslye, e-sports pros on LoL and such, taking things seriously to the point of it being their job, and they don't have a problem using online nicknames. Just sayin'...

Anyway that's my opinion, I'm not gonna change it and I reckon no one is gonna change their minds about it no matter what. But I like discussing things. And it's not like it's a big deal either, I'll just write a fake name on your website just like on CH and it'll be fine just like on CH.

As always, I appreciate your opinion and I understand where you're coming from.

I can understand that not everyone is willing to share their real name and we will not force them. I would like to see people at least use names that appear like legitimate names and hopefully we can find a way not to have people use the same names.

Our database will keep track of name changes on a league basis, so even if you play in three tournaments with three different names, it will all link back to the same user and is traceable for anyone viewing your profile. You will not be able to change your name during a league (unless you have a typo or something).

In the end, when listing stats and what not, we're always referring to a user ID, so if we were to decide to change our mind or display Name + gamertag, that's totally doable. The site will see many changes during it's development, some will be good, some will perhaps be a step in the wrong direction and the community will have to help us by providing the feedback on what is loved and what is not. :)

Yeah I forgot user ID on the website. When I think about it, it's the best thing to use.

Side note @Kenu , if there's any option within the stats sheet I'll be more than willing to track corsi numbers for my team (granted, it would be a much more team related stat since line changes obviously do not happen). :)

As for names, I think giving people an option of what they want to display is probably best at first. I know some people don't like sharing their name on the internet as it infringes on their perceived privacy, whereas others (such as myself) couldn't really give a toss if someone I don't know knows my name.

@MartindalexC: I have been working on a goal tracker thing (optional), where you can click where the goal was scored from. Shot tracking sounds very time consuming. The same concept can be used of course, but I doubt many would use it for shot tracking. Definitely something that can be considered adding as a super optional feature at a later time, but at this point, there are no plans to have it available during the first tournament.

Just a reckless imagination on my side:

I've heard before there are ways to 'extract' information from images if the pattern of said image stays the same. Now when you take a screenshot of the end result, all numbers (e.g. goals, shots on goal...) are in the same position each and every time. Wouldn't it be possible to create a tool that allows you to upload that screenshot, so these stats can be extracted and filled into the game report automatically?

I'm quite sure this requires a ton of work and more advanced programming skills, though.

We've been discussing this, actually, but haven't had the time to look into it more than some initial tests.
If anyone can suggest some good software for this, I'm all ears. :)

It would be great if you have a opportunity to upload a game (or clip of it) in to the game report.

In PlayStation 4 players can easily save the game with a share button. There is also players who have game capture devices etc including me. I think there is a lot of players who are interested to watch replays.

I also hope a some kind of "shoutbox" or something similar that was in consolehockey. Place where you can promoting your stream when there is a interesting game coming.

This sounds gr8. It would be fun to watch Highlights. Also i would really be happy for this "shoutbox" i could always check when there is a big game going and i could see if they are streaming it.

Hey @VilberttoCarlos,

Sorry I didn't notice your comment earlier! We won't have an upload option, as you can upload to YouTube, but we will have the option to submit your YouTube-video ID, which allows us to embed your video to our website. ;)

Shoutbox... yes! I was going to say that we already have that, but it's true it's only in the community side at this stage. We'll see how we can implement it. I would prefer to have the same shoutbox everywhere. If we are doing a live stream, then we can embed the Twitch chat.

Thanks to @Enkmanni for chiming in with his opinion too!
