After losing both of their previous meetings in the group stage, Robin came into the final focused and composed — and won to close out the series and take the crown.

But who is the man behind the gamertag?

Robin is 37 years old and originally from Tjörn, an island just north of Gothenburg, Sweden. These days, he lives in Skåne, in the southern part of the country. Hockey has been a constant in his life—both on the ice and in the game.

He started playing NHL more actively around NHL 20, and has since become a steady presence in the online community. In recent years, he’s mainly focused on online Versus, especially in an American league where he competes regularly. He’s also dipped into Chel (6v6), which he just recently started exploring more seriously.

What would you say are your strengths and weaknesses?
That’s a tough one… probably easier for my opponents to answer. But one big weakness is definitely the counterattacks I tend to allow — I give up too many of those.

How would you describe your final series against DAFA?
Wow — super fun. Ever since he beat me twice in the group stage, I’d been hoping for a rematch. I play a lot on feel, so that hunger for revenge gave me a real spark.   • “We meet 20 to play 3 and we will see then.”

Matchday: Wednesday

• At 20:00, Spartan family began searching for the first game and messaged The Solution.
   
• With no reply received, Spartan family declared a walkover win for Game 1 at 20:16, in line with the rulebook’s 15-minute lateness rule.
   
• At 20:17, The Solution responded: “ok, see you at 20.30.”
  
• The Solution joined the lobby at 20:39 — 39 minutes after the agreed start time, and with no explanation for the delay.
   
• While the walkover could be viewed as slightly strict, the combination of The Solution’s refusal to play on Tuesday, poor communication, and disregard for the 20:00 start time left the Administration with no choice.
   
• Games 2 and 3 were played without further issues.
   
• At 21:30, Spartan family left for their ECL Pro Qualifier matches, as previously agreed.
  • During this time, The Solution began searching and messaging that Spartan family were not showing up — despite the pre-scheduled break.
     
• Spartan family returned around 22:30 to continue the series, but The Solution had left and refused to complete the remaining games.

Every season, the league has delivered intense matchups, unforgettable moments, and legendary champions who have cemented their names in Swedish eHockey history.

New for This Year: No X-Factors – A New Era for SCL Competition

The upcoming season introduces a groundbreaking change aimed at redefining the competitive 6v6 eHockey scene. In a bold move to emphasize pure skill and strategy, SCL has decided to ban the use of all X-Factors, both Gold and Silver.

This decision marks a significant shift in gameplay, as X-Factors have long played a crucial role in shaping team dynamics and individual performances. By removing these abilities, SCL aims to create a more balanced and skill-driven environment, where players must rely on raw talent and tactical planning.

This rule change is based on community requests and is expected to bring a new dynamic to competition, challenging players to adapt and develop new strategies. We are very interested receiving feedback from the teams during and after the season.

Eligibility

In the development of our regional leagues, the main objective has been creating a structure that allows all of the regional communities to shine, while strengthening each tournament’s own unique identity and sense of national pride.

For SCL 2025, two non-Swedish players will be allowed per team on ice in a game – under very specific conditions. Here they are:

Outside of the Swedish championship (SCL). The German (GCL), Finnish (eHSM), and Czech and Slovak (CSCL) communities will be defined as the “major communities” for the purposes of this text.

Players hailing from nations that currently do not have a region-based championship to sign up for – one where they are allowed to play free of restrictions and are counted as the main target demographic – will be defined as “minor communities” for the purposes of this text.

All teams must always feature a minimum of 4 Swedish players in their on-ice lineup

• Teams may feature a maximum of two non-Swedish players on ice if both players are from a minor community (for example: Danish, Norwegian, Latvian)
• Teams may feature a maximum of two non-Swedish players on ice if one player is from a major community (German, Finnish, Russian, Czech, Slovak) and the other player from a minor community
• Teams may NOT feature two non-Swedish players on ice if both those players are from a major community (German, Finnish, Russian, Czech, Slovak)

In this year's edition of the Swedish Championships we're crowning Elvis @bystrom___ Byström the new SCL 1v1 Champion!

Elvis Byström, a 16-year-old from Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, has always had a strong connection to hockey and gaming. Born and raised in this small town, Elvis is currently studying to become a carpenter, a trade he finds both challenging and rewarding. His journey into the world of NHL gaming began at a young age, around 5 or 6 years old, when he and a friend from his old hockey team started playing NHL on his dad's Xbox.

Afternoons at the Byström household often featured intense NHL game matches between Elvis and his dad. Despite losing all those early games, Elvis's determination never wavered. He continued to play, driven by the desire to finally win against his father. His dad, an avid NHL gamer himself, became Elvis's mentor, teaching him skill moves and coaching him through HUT Champs games when Elvis was around 10 or 11 years old.

This father-son bonding over the NHL game not only improved Elvis's gaming skills but also deepened his love for the sport. His dad's passion for the game and his guidance were pivotal in shaping Elvis's own interest and dedication. Today, Elvis Byström continues to hone his skills both as a carpenter and as an NHL gamer, inspired by the lessons and memories shared with his father.

Big thanks once again! It feels great to be a Swedish champion even if the best player "Eken" wasn't participating.

You won almost all of your games throughout your Championship run - were you expecting to go all the way and take home the title

Yeah, my goal was to win all games but that's hard. We have good players in Sweden that can make it far in ECL 1v1 without a doubt, and yes my goal was to win the whole tournament. I think I played pretty well throughout the tournament, my highest level was pretty high and my lowest was not bad at all. 
 

What do you think your strenght is? And how about your weaknesses?

My strength is to keep the puck with my team and to win the puck back if I lose it. My weakness is to keep my head up in the games I think sometimes I stop focusing and play laidback, which is dumb.
 

How would you describe your final series against Wilgoat3?

The final against Wilgoat was difficult in the first game because I hadn't played Wilgoat in NHL 24 so I needed to learn his game style. In game 2 I think I started to know what he was going to do and also the games after that and I was able to win 3-1 in games. This was my best series throughout the playoffs without a doubt.

In a dramatic best-of-five series, Vesa Pompa, the top-seeded team, successfully defended their championship title by sweeping Unwanted, the second seed, with a 3-0 series victory. Each game was a nail-biter, with all matches decided by a single goal, showcasing the high level of competition in the Swedish Championship League (SCL) finals.

The series opener set the tone for an intense matchup. Unwanted took an early 3-0 lead, with goals from Steffen @Suth98_ Sutherland and Alex @Snus97_ Arvidsson, but Vesa Pompa's resilience shone through. Last night we finished the SCL 2023 1v1 season and after a Finals series that ended in a sweep, we are able to crown Henrik @Eken45jr Eklund the SCL Champion for the fifth consecutive time! The Champion hailing from Swedish hockey town Örnsköldsvik has dominated the Swedish eHockey scene for years and at the moment, he seems unstoppable. Congratulations to Eken on behalf of the entire community!

How does it feel to have claimed your fifth SCL Championship?
It's always fun to be the best, and I enjoy being able to call myself the Swedish Champion once again. 

How would you describe this Final series?
I was impressed by his game, to be fair! His playstyle was definitely different from what you're used to seeing. He didn't play behind the net to generate chances, but had a quick passing game going and used overload a ton I believe. A lot of respect goes out to Ted @Ted Kempe Kempe (Smayk99). About my own game, I think it was okay, but unusually fluctuant. The highs were very high, though, so I have to be satisfied with that. 

You had a few hiccups along the way, how do you tackle those?
It's not my first rodeo, so I guess I've learned to handle those situations better. I picked a team with fast forwards and big defensemen, so I really dug deep and focused on the counter attack. 

What is it that makes you so good consistently?
It's not rocket science, to be honest. I keep on grinding, playing the best players around in all tournaments and leagues. I spend time trying to learn from my games and analyzing the goals against in order to avoid them in the future. Also looking at streams of top players have taught me a lot.

The 1v1 portion of the SCL is just about to start the Quarterfinals stage, and with Finals scheduled for Sunday, May 7th, the schedule is tight. There's lots of action to unfold in the next few days and some interesting talent still in the mix. Reigning Champion Henrik @Eken45jr Eklund is chugging along as the #1 seed, and he will be challenged by the likes of Ted @Ted Kempe Kempe (Smayk99) and Max @LaxenHD Söderström, while Anton @antoniomannen004 Svensander, another favorite, is still waiting to qualify. 
 

SCL 6v6

Quarterfinals: 4.-7.5.

We're at the Quarterfinals stage on the 6v6 side and Örebro Hockey is the only team to advance from there at the moment, as they managed to beat Brynäs IF in a convincing 3-1 series in the SportsGamer broadcast on Thursday evening. Some interesting matchups are about to unfold this weekend, with Redhawks Esport going up against Björklöven Esport and Djurgarden Hockey facing Leksands IF. Redhawks and Björklöven faced each other already in the regular season and at that time, the Redhawks managed to claim both wins. Djurgården are in for a tough challenge, as the past week has been turbulent for the team. They have a deep roster, but it'll be tough to adapt in time for a series against the lethal Leksands IF squad. 

With the NHL 23 season in high gear, we have the traditional regional Championships to play for and with that we're glad to announce the return of the Swedish Championship League!

The fifth iteration of the SCL makes its long awaited return this spring, and we're excited to see the best Swedish gamers back on the virtual ice again amidst the grind of the unusually high-action NHL competitive season. 

To cap off the fourth season of the SCL, Manos secured their 6v6 title and Henrik @Eken45jr Eklund was able to achieve his fourth consecutive 1v1 title. According to the SCL ruleset, both will receive an invitation to join this years SCL as the #1 seed in the playoffs. 

The 2023 SCL season will feature a prize pool of 75 000 SEK combined for the 1v1 and 6v6 sides of the league. Participation this season will require the purchase of an SCL 2023 Player License that costs 5,5 EUR or approximately 62 SEK depending on the exchange rate. The license will allow for participation in both the SCL 6v6 and 1v1 leagues for the 2023 season.

Eligibility

In the development of our regional leagues, the main objective has been creating a structure that allows all of the regional communities to shine, while strengthening each tournament’s own unique identity and sense of national pride. In the interest of solidifying an identity for the SCL that has a stronger native focus while also avoiding scheduling issues for especially the two concurrently running tournaments (eHSM & the SCL), player participation in the SCL will exclude that player from participating in the eHSM.
However, for this season, Swedish players will be allowed to compete in both tournaments simultaneously.

'Player participation' is defined as being listed on the roster of a team participating in the SCL. In short, non-Swedish players can not be listed in the roster for teams in both the SCL and the eHSM.

For SCL 2023, two non-Swedish players will be allowed per team on ice in a game – under very specific conditions. Here they are:

Outside of the Swedish championship (SCL). The German (GCL), Finnish (eHSM), and Czech and Slovak (CSCL) communities will be defined as the “major communities” for the purposes of this text.

Players hailing from nations that currently do not have a region-based championship to sign up for – one where they are allowed to play free of restrictions and are counted as the main target demographic – will be defined as “minor communities” for the purposes of this text.

All teams must always feature a minimum of 4 Swedish players in their on-ice lineup

• Teams may feature a maximum of two non-Swedish players on ice if both players are from a minor community (for example: Danish, Norwegian, Latvian)
• Teams may feature a maximum of two non-Swedish players on ice if one player is from a major community (German, Finnish, Russian, Czech, Slovak) and the other player from a minor community
• Teams may NOT feature two non-Swedish players on ice if both those players are from a major community (German, Finnish, Russian, Czech, Slovak)

Manos capped off their NHL 22 season in great fashion by securing their first ever SCL 6v6 Championship in a Finals series against the experienced Falun Coal Miners. The series was expected to be a tough battle, but eventually Manos were just too strong and ran away with the games in a sweep. 

Adam @esdor Ericson reached out to Melvin @Melguss Gustafsson after the finals for a few comments on their success:

You had an amazing scoring explosion in the second period of game 2, what happened there?
"Just quality by me, and by the entire team, nothing else to it."

You managed to stay efficient with your scoring chances throughout, what's your secret?
"We're the best team in Sweden, and honestly it's not a huge surprise that we came away with the win in the end. It's what we expected since the start, and finishing on a high note feels great."

You really showed what you can do in the Finals, what are your thoughts on that?
"It was almost too easy. We have so much depth in the roster with @Klangen and @Frompa-, just to mention a few guys. It's been magical."

A couple of weeks ago, we truly witnessed greatness at work, when Henrik @Eken45jr Eklund continued his dominant reign over the Swedish 1v1 NHL community. The superstar hailing from the small hockey town Örnsköldsvik has with his most recent Championship now secured four consecutive SCL titles, not letting anyone else get a taste of the gold since the inaugural season of the national league. In the Finals, Eken managed to dismantle Robin @Rubituss Söderqvist in convincing manner with a 3-0 sweep, earning him an undefeated run on his way to the title.

First of all, congratulations on the title. How did the Finals series go in your opinion?
"The first game was very tight and I wasn't really haoppy with my performance there. Rubituss got too much space in my zone and I had trouble setting up my defense. Moving on, I made some strategic changes and played more aggressively in the second and third game, which yielded results for me. The last two games were the style of play I like to employ and I'm very happy with how I could control those."

It looked like your defensive game really ended up winning you the Championship there, right?
"You could say that, Rubituss had some great plays in the first game, which I'm not really happy about giving up, but I'm happy with my ability to adjust going into games two and three."

How does it feel going into every series with the pressure to win?
"It feels like that's been the case in every SCL thus far. It might sound a bit cocky, but I've grown used to it. Usually I'm a bit nervous going into games, but when the puck drops, I get in my zone and manage to turn everything into positives."

What are some tips you'd give to players out there aspiring to reach your level?
"Definitely analyze your game. I recommend recording some gameplay and looking back at it in order to understand what to improve moving forward. Play the best players you can as much as possible, and watch other players play on streams. Finally of course, practice a lot."

It's going to be tough to call a winner in this series. We're seeing the highly prestigious and experienced Falun Coal Miners with a combined over 1500 ECL Elite games under their belts - a number that doesn't even come close to sniffing. The Coal Miners also have experience together from an extended period of time, although they've been broken up at times and this SCL has been something of a coming home party for some of these players. In the Semifinals against Skutebrygga, the Coal Miners stumbled a bit early on, but then took a commanding lead in the series. Despite the game 5 series finish, it was never really in doubt for the squad, and they are now looking for a second consecutive title for some of their players. 

Manos, on the other hand also have several experienced gamers in their ranks, and they all possess a truly astonishing amount of potential that hasn't been fully reached yet. We're talking about the kinds of Mikkel @Birkedal96 Birkedal, Melvin @Melguss Gustafsson, and even Samuel @EDHOLMEN3 Edholm, who are just some of the central pieces for Manos in their run to the Finals. All of these players have been fringe Elite players for quite some time already, and are on the brink of breaking through to the next level. In their latest matchup against Sankens Soldater in the Semifinals, Manos really showcased their ability to lock things down against an offensive powerhouse and came away with the series win as a result of four very tightly contested battles. Next, they'll have to pull off a similar feat against some of the games greatest passers in André @Foppatofflan Liljegren and Anton @antoniomannen004 Svensander.

The 1v1 Finals tonight will feature two great players who have made a name for themselves in the Swedish community over the past few years. Henrik @Eken45jr Eklund is the defending triple Champion and the only player to ever get a taste of the 1v1 gold in the SCL. He won his first ever SCL trophy in Uppsala back in the spring of 2019, and has been on a successful journey ever since. He will be challenged by Robin @Rubituss Söderqvist, who actually also was at the first ever SCL Finals in Uppsala, and played Eken in the Finals. The duo has clashed on several occasions over the years and while that has built a mutual respect, this is also a rivalry between two fierce competitors.

"We've played each other a couple of times over the years in the SCL, and Eken has always came away with the victory in the past. I'm definitely the underdog in this series especially since Eken now has three consecutive Championships. Since we've played each other many times in the past, I think we've got a good idea of how the opponent plays, but in NHL 22 I don't think we've even clashed, so it's going to be great to finish off NHL 22 with this series. My best weapon against Eken is going to be my defensive game and the calmness and routine I've build over the years." - @Rubituss

"I think there's definitely some press on me to defend the title, but often it just pushes me to go the extra mile and makes me play even better. Me and Rubituss have played each other a couple of times in HUT this year, I don't remember how those games went but it seems like he's really found his form towards the end of the season, so it's going to be a fun matchup. I'd say his strengths are on the offensive, a great goal scorer for sure. I'd be dumb to let you in on what I've got planned for the evening, but I'll keep it simple and if I can play at my best level, I'll be tough to beat." - @Eken45jr

Skutebrygga was the only team left in the tournament to sport an undefeated record coming into the Semifinals, but on Monday evening, the Coal Miners ended up being the first team to hand them a loss. The series continues tonight and currently the teams stand even, so we're essentially going to see a best of three between two very capable squads. 

Both of these teams are very efficient with their chances, so the series will definitely not be easy on either goaltender and it might very well come down to which defense manages to smother the oppositions chances better. You'd expect the more experienced Falun Coal Miners to have an advantage in the defensive game due to their extremely versatile lineup and vast experience together, but Skutebrygga has proven to be a very well versed team themselves. Their roster consisting of some of the most exciting up-and-coming players in the scene has really gelled over the course of the tournament and could go on to do great things.

When accounting for games played, @Hockeyjohannes is the most efficient scorer in the SCL playoffs thus far, and is on a great run together with his team. The guy is usually known for playing the LD spot for Växjö Lakers, who recently secured a spot in the ECL Elite division, but now he's managed to successfully step up to the left wing, flanking Melvin @Melguss Gustafsson and Mikkel @Birkedal96 Birkedal. Manos is first and foremost a very offensively skilled team, like many of the most successful clubs this year in the SCL. 

This is going to be an interesting battle between two goaltenders that have the ability to go on impressive hot streaks and have done so in the past. On the flipside, they also have the tendency to fall off for short periods, so we'll have to hope that come puck drop, these guys can bring their best and really show up in an entertaining way. 

Prediction: Manos in 5.

Skutebrygga as emerged as something of a modern Nordic superteam, including mostly Swedish players with some Norwegian spice in the mix. The team bases their game on quick puck movement and exceptionally skilled individuals, and it seems like veteran @Strumpan87 has really flourished in the playoffs thus far on the wing of @Suth98_ and @Henka0009. What you are witnessing is the coming out party of a real SCL contender, that could do great things at the European stage too if they continue treading down the same path. 

Sodertalje SK is an experienced squad that has played together for an extended period of time, albeit in slightly different constellations. This SCL, they are sporting a very deep roster that allows them to look for the most favorable matchups on the ice, but could cause them to suffer in chemistry slightly. @Vesterberg89 on his RD spot will have to go against Skutebrygga top scorer and Södertälje SK alumni @Strumpan87, and will have his work cut out for him all series long. 

Prediction: Skutebrygga in 3.

Manos is an interesting squad, comprised of mostly what seems like players of Växjö Lakers HC fame, but also including some additions like @Melguss and @Putteekiing to strengthen their ranks. Manos have a very deep roster with a tremendous amount of skill, but they'll most likely start gravitating towards their final form in the hopes of a deep playoff push. Both wingers @Hockeyjohannes and @Birkedal96 are great goal scorers that have been fed all season long by centerman @Melguss, and the trend should continue in this series. 

Garotta Di Ansjovis is perhaps sporting one of the more exotic names in the tournament, but they're also a considerable threat on the ice. Lead by veterans like @Buffy and @J-Foppa, the team will have the mental resilience to put up a fight against a highly skilled team that could put them on the back foot a bit. It's highly likely that Garotta will have to resort to a counter attacking strategy in order to clinch wins in this series.

Prediction: Manos in 3.

Sankens Soldater is bona fide superteam with a tremendous amount of prestige in their ranks, quite interestingly goaltender extraordinaire @ICappeI is making a comeback at the left wing and has done so in successful manner on the flank of @Eken45jr and @I-Maise-I. Sanken is without a doubt the more offensively capable squad in this matchup and should take the control for most of the series. Defensemen @Sebban and @Demski_ are excellent with the puck and will jump in on the offense when required as well. 

What we're seeing in Leksands IF is first and foremost a great team, much alike we're used to seeing for squads lead by @iSvamp from his defensive spot. The full Swedish outfit has managed to recruit highly potential players that could be seen as unpolished gems, now working very well as a five man unit and with the skill set to be able to beat any team that comes in their way.

This is the first series to start the Quarterfinals and after the first three games the series is at a 2-1 lead for Sankens Soldater.

Prediction: Sankens Soldater in 5.

We'll be in for a very tough fight between Falun Coal Miners and Björklöven Esport in this Quarterfinals matchup. The Coal Miners have made a comeback after some time and in their signature way, they are immediately competitive with a deep, experienced and highly skilled roster. @antoniomannen004 had an excellent campaign with Setelit On Ice in the eHSM and seems to continue his form also in the Coal Miners lineup alongside @MartindalexC and @Foppatofflan. Defensively, we're looking at a highly capable team with very offensively gifted defensemen, who like to jump in on the rush and shoot the puck from the point. Quite surprisingly, the Falun powerplay has been their weakest link in the playoffs, but thus far they've been able to remedy that with a high scoring 5v5 game.

The Umeå outfit Björklöven Esport have some cornerstones in @Kallmanius and @Pappen, who have been with the squad for a longer time already. They're joined by a strong arsenal of gifted players and some very experienced defensemen on their back line. Especially look for the connection on offence between new recruit @Winci and @Pappen, which is one of Björklövens most dangerous weapons. 

Prediction: Falun Coal Miners in 4.

It's time to start the big games in this season of the 6v6 SCL and eventually find out the next Swedish Champion. Granit Gaming did not return to defend their trophy, so now it's up to a new challenger to claim the throne for themselves. Falun Coal Miners have made their return after a longer hiatus and retains part of the old Granit Gaming core with a strong chance to hoist the cup at the end of the season, but the likes of Skutebrygga, Manos and Sankens Soldater are making a push to challenge. 

The first round of the playoffs (BO5) is to be played between Monday, 19th of September and Wednesday, 21st of September.

The first round of action is certainly full of some interesting matchups and especially noteworthy is the four way rivalry that extends from group 2 with Falun Coal Miners, Nordic Nosebleed, Garotta Di Ansjovis and Carolus Icemen who all clashed in the group stage and will continue battling it out in the first playoff round. Falun Coal Miners will be going at it with Nordic Nosebleed, who interestingly enough were the only team to beat them in the group stage, and Nosebleeds experienced group is notorious for making it tough on opponents even if the situation would seem hopeless for them. Garotta Di Ansjovis shared points with Carolus Icemen in the group stage, and that series will definitely be one to watch in the first round.

Elsewhere, you might want to take a look at the Purification vs Sodertalje SK-series, which could go either way. Both squads have some experienced players that have lots of skill and uncapped potential still in them. Sodertalje might have a slight edge due to their core having so much experience together. 

Other takeaways include Leksands IF and their exceptional special teams play, which should be in the game notes for Style heading into the series. If Style wants to move on with the victory, playing 5v5 for as much of the series as possible would be in their favor.

With the NHL 22 season coming towards its end, we still have the traditional regional Championships to play for and with that we're glad to announce the return of the Swedish Championship League! The SCL is played on the PlayStation 4 version of NHL 22.

The fourth iteration of the SCL makes its long awaited return this fall, and we're excited to see the best Swedish gamers back on the virtual ice again after a well deserved summer break. The community has only grown since last year, and an influx of exciting new talent has been apparent, so gather your friends and register for a blast of a tournament and the chance to snag that Swedish Championship title along the way!

To cap off the third season of the SCL, Granit Gaming secured their 6v6 title and Henrik @Eken45jr Eklund was able to achieve his third title in a row on the 1v1 side of things. According to the SCL ruleset, both will receive an invitation to join this years SCL as the #1 seed in the playoffs. 

Due to some unfortunate circumstances, the 2022 edition of the SCL season will not feature a prize pool. We understand that this can feel like a step back and a disappointment at this stage, but we assure you that our focus still lies in developing the Swedish community as a whole and the SCL will see prize pools again in the future. We remain fully committed to the tournament and pledge to provide the same level of coverage and broadcast production as previous years.

In the development of our regional leagues, the main objective has been creating a structure that allows all of the regional communities to shine, while strengthening each tournament’s own unique identity and sense of national pride. In the interest of solidifying an identity for the SCL that has a stronger native focus while also avoiding scheduling issues for especially the two concurrently running tournaments (eHSM & the SCL), player participation in the SCL will exclude that player from participating in the eHSM.
However, for this season, Swedish players will be allowed to compete in both tournaments simultaneously.

'Player participation' is defined as being listed on the roster of a team participating in the SCL. In short, non-Swedish players can not be listed in the roster for teams in both the SCL and the eHSM.

For SCL 2022, two non-Swedish players will be allowed per team on ice in a game – under very specific conditions. Here they are:

Outside of the Swedish championship (SCL). The German (GCL), Finnish (eHSM), and Czech and Slovak (CSCL) communities will be defined as the “major communities” for the purposes of this text.

Players hailing from nations that currently do not have a region-based championship to sign up for – one where they are allowed to play free of restrictions and are counted as the main target demographic – will be defined as “minor communities” for the purposes of this text.

All teams must always feature a minimum of 4 Swedish players in their on-ice lineup

• Teams may feature a maximum of two non-Swedish players on ice if both players are from a minor community (for example: Danish, Norwegian, Latvian)
• Teams may feature a maximum of two non-Swedish players on ice if one player is from a major community (German, Finnish, Russian, Czech, Slovak) and the other player from a minor community
• Teams may NOT feature two non-Swedish players on ice if both those players are from a major community (German, Finnish, Russian, Czech, Slovak)

After all, it's not a massive surprise to see the #1 seed go up against the #2 seed in the finals, especially since both Granit Gaming and Färjestad BK are such established organizations that have been at the top for quite some time already. What ramps up the heat of the finals even more is the fact that these teams really know the ins and outs of each other due to their experience of playing together in various constellations. The fact is, that 50% of the lineup that Granit Gaming is expected to ice for the finals played for Färjestad this past ECL season, just a few months ago - and saw some impressive success while doing so. Farjestad, on the other hand were forced to reinvent themselves a bit. As stated in previous previews, the team acquired a set of new defensemen and a winger, which has worked wonders for the squad. 

As the 1st and 2nd seed of the playoffs, both of these teams have had rather similar paths to the finals, where neither team saw too much trouble until the later rounds. Färjestad BK was challenged slightly by Ice MachineZ in the Quarterfinals, but managed to overcome the team with several old acquaintances, whereas Granit Gaming had a minor scare against HV71 in the Semifinals, where they were down 2-1 after the first set of games. 

The teams are very evenly matched, as the statistics would suggest, the main difference being Granit Gaming and their slightly more stable defense. Special teams are definitely deadly for both parties and despite both being very strong on the PK, some powerplay scoring shouldn't be out of the question. In net, we're expecting to see Edvin @Thunborg5 Thunborg for Granit, whereas Johan @McSavid Rundqvist will strap on the pads for Färjestad. Throughout his career, Runqvist has seen far more action and therefore is statistically inclined to stop a higher percentage of pucks shot at him, but Thunborg has a history of winning big games and coming up clutch when his team really needs him. It's almost impossible to give an advantage in that department. 

So far this season, it has seemed like Granit Gaming is the more well-rounded team largely due to their chemistry from before and due to their dynamic levels of high-end talent all around the ice. Färjestad is a team that also performs close to the same level, but lacks the similar ability to switch gears and find alternative solutions in a similar way. The fact is, after all, Ljungberg is their go-to-guy on far more than 50% of their offensive chances and despite their success so far, Granit should be a team of a high enough caliber to put an end to that show.

Prediction: 4-2

After a long Friday night with a lot of 1v1 action, we are able to present to you - STILL the Swedish 1v1 NHL Champion, Henrik @Eken45jr Eklund! The youngster hailing from Örnsköldsvik surfaced a few years ago and quickly made a claim as being one of the most talented players around, and rightfully so - he has now secured a third consecutive Swedish Championship and has the chance to do so in both the 1v1 and 6v6 game modes this weekend.

What has made you such a good player over the course of NHL 21?
"I feel like my defensive game has been very strong this year and I'm very confident with that. That is also what has separated me from the competition on many occasions this year."

Now with another title down and some change in your pockets, what will you do with the prize money?
"I think I'll spend quite a lot this weekend with the Granit Gaming boys in Stockholm, probably a bit on HUT packs but what's left after that I'll put into the savings for sure."

Only four remain in the 2021-edition of our Swedish Championship League and those four squads are now going into all-out battle for the title and the cash! Perhaps to no surprise, we've got the seeds 1-4 from the group stage entering this point of the league as a result of stellar play all around, but also by overcoming adversity and finding new ways to flourish in some cases. Let's take a closer look at our matchups and the schedule ahead!

Another interesting factor in these semifinals is also that we have two established Elite squads going into the series as favorites, whereas both HV71 and Djurgården have seen promotions at the end of ECL 12 and are heading into their matchups as the underdogs. In this clash against Granit Gaming, HV71 are without the slightest hint of doubt facing the toughest opposition possible in this tournament, and everything will need to click for them if they are looking to advance. Without their captain @Demski13, they have already managed to overcome that massive obstacle and play for their leader in two matchups, going undefeated in the playoffs so far. It seems like their entire roster have been able to elevate their level as games have progressed and stand-in @Joppe_ hasn't looked at all out of place - instead going head-to-head with the best of them like it's just another day at the office. 

On the other side of the ice, we've got Granit Gaming - the Swedish super squad with some Czech spice in the form of @dzouvi. As expected, they have truly earned their #1 spot and have gone undefeated throughout the league so far. Anything but a championship would be a disappointment and they're not taking that mission lightly. This roster holds an abundance of individual skill that combines for a beautiful hockey symphony on ice, anything can and will happen when Granit takes the ice, and so far it's been a victory train for them. 

Prediction: 4-0

Despite being forced to reinvent themselves slightly in the offseason between ECL 12 and the SCL, Färjestad have managed to retain their high level of play and have proven that throughout the duration of this season. The quarterfinals against Ice MachineZ were their first true test, which they managed to come away from unscathed. They should have taken some lessons away from that matchup though, as Djurgården Hockey is surely a more coherent unit that will strike without mercy when given the chance. We're expecting to see a back-and-forth battle between two rather evenly matched teams, where Färjestad will be relying slightly more on their offensive instincts and quick counter attacks through @affelj96, whereas Djurgården Hockey will be trusting their team play and try to control the pace of the game a bit more. 

Prediction: 3-4

It's time for the quarterfinals of the SCL 6v6 league and with that we're now down to only eight teams left. We've got some very interesting matchups incoming, including some rivalries from the group stage, which is always nice. The quarterfinals of the SCL are to be played between Today, 12th of September and Wednesday, 15th of September. The quarterfinals will be played in a best-of-seven format.

(1)   Granit Gaming vs IK Oskarshamn  (10)

A true case of David vs Goliath on display. Despite having a positive development curve and being able to overcome Södertälje SK in a tight battle in the first round, IK Oskarshamn is in over their head in this one. The reigning champions have plowed through opposition without the slightest sign of weakness throughout the league so far, and are not expected to stop any time soon. To put this matchup into perspective - IK Oskarshamn overcame SSK in a very tight seven game series, whereas Granit managed to beat that same team in the group stage with ease by 4-1 and 6-0. Although an upset would shake the scene to the core, this is not the matchup where that will happen. 

Prediction: 4-0, Granit advance

(2)  Farjestad BK vs Ice MachineZ  (9)

We could be in for an interesting one right here. Farjestad BK is the established runner-up, but Ice MachineZ are surely up for the challenge. Both teams consist of experienced players in slightly new found constellations. The biggest advantage in advance can be found in net, where FBK have @McSavid, who we all know as one of the greatest Swedish netminders around. On the other side, we've got @Provokacija for the Ice MachineZ, who hasn't proven his level yet against high level clubs on a regular basis - now is his chance. This matchup will most likely boil down to which team finds the better flow on ice and which goaltender will manage to elevate their level of play better. A minor advantage for Farjestad BK.

Prediction: 4-1, Färjestad advance

(3)  Djurgarden Hockey vs Björklöven Esport  (6)

Seed #1 and #2 from group 1 clash again. In the group stage, these teams played two low-scoring battles, which both ended in Djurgården wins and Björklöven were left with only one point for an OT loss. The history between these two teams call for a very tough fight that could extend to the full seven games, and scoring should be hard. Both teams are extremely strong defensive units that have the ability to explode on offense when given the chance, and both have a secret weapon on that defensive LD spot - @Jungledonk for Djurgården and @Supremski for Björklöven. Keep an eye on these two!

Prediction: 4-2, Djurgården advance

(4)  HV71 vs AiKnown  (5) 

These two also met already in the group stage - HV71 finishing #1 and AiKnown finishing #2 in group 3. Back then, points were shared. Statistically, the teams are very similar and play with a defense first mindset, but it could be argued that HV71 is a slightly better assembled machine due to their experience together at the forefront. That is not to say that AiKnown would be any lesser of a team and they definitely stand the chance to cause trouble in this matchup for their opponents, especially with the notion in mind that HV71 heart-and-soul @Demski13 will be absent for his team in this matchup. That means a small shuffle for HV71, where @Rubituss takes the center spot and @Joppe_ enters the lineup - having done so well with 10 points in their first matchup against Illumination. This is a tight matchup that is very tough to predict, you'll have to see it first hand!

Prediction: 2-4, AiKnown advance
