It's been a wild ride over the past couple of months that the ECL Elite division has been running and as usual, we could give all the high praise and all the glorious hype because after all - it is our product. This season, however, it was really the players who showed up big time and provided that quality gameplay that we're all out for. Now, only two remain. In a repeat of ECL 11's FILADELPHIA - hREDS Finals, who will hoist the cup this time?

FILADELPHIA has made the finals each and every season that they've been a part of the Elite division and are the definition of a true NHL Esports dynasty. After their dominant outing last season, there was little to no room for improvement, but lo and behold - the black and orange did even better this season! Despite not reaching new highs individually, the team topped their regular season point total record by amassing 58 points in their 30 games, only two shy of a perfect record. Their postseason started with some hiccups against the surprisingly strong newcomer IQUE, but FILADELPHIA really found their form against Farjestad BK in the semifinals. FILADELPHIA's offense really found their stride in the Semifinals too, with both wingers Erik @Eki Tammenpää and Paul @PleeMaker Arontie collecting ten and eleven points respectively thru their four last games. It also seems like FILADELPHIA is stronger than ever on the defense, the fact that the team is one of the most coordinated lineups in the world certainly has a lot to do with it, but their newest recruit Teemu @Xteemuz (Teemuyy) Polttila has also been a crucial piece to their puzzle. Interestingly enough, he also played a big part in the Finals last season, only on the other side which means he is very familiar with the hREDS guys. 

If we're talking about FILADELPHIA as the defensive powerhouse in the division, hREDS is their offensive conunterpart. Just the difference isn't that big. Statistically, it looks like hREDS is doing good, but FILA is still that "big brother" that seems to be a bit ahead at everything.. for the time being. What's changed for hREDS since last season is basically their entire left wing with Aaro @xDoumi Ruuhinen taking the place of Teemuyy and Vili @Vilupoika Häkkinen replacing Joakim @Joukki Nyholm, who was sensational for hREDS in the ECL 11 playoffs. All of these players mentioned are certainly skilled and of true contender caliber, so it'll come down to the smallest of details in finding out the difference between the two teams. We know Vilupoika as one of the most prominent scorers of the game from some years back and it still seems like he hasn't risen to his full potential after his return to the bright lights. Now, on the biggest of stages, can he do that to elevate his team to glory perhaps? 

Prediction:
Right now, it seems like FILADELPHIA is an unstoppable force, but it'll remain to be seen if hREDS will be the immovable object. FILADELPHIA has, as stated on a run like no other, and their stellar defensive play so far is an excellent sign for them. As we know, the finals have often come down to the wire, and the team that makes less mistakes very often comes out on top. We reached out to FILADELPHIA assistant captain and right winger Erik @Eki Tammenpää for some comments about the upcoming series and their season so far.

After a dominant regular season, IQUE proved to be a tough opponent in the quarters, after which you conquered Färjestad BK with relative ease. How does your form look right now and do you think the longer break ahead of the playoffs could have an impact on the series?

"IQUE's style of play worked very well against us, and we really needed to put some thought into how we're going to overcome them in that series. Against FBK we were able to utilize our strengths and get in the groove of things a bit more. This week, we've played almost every night, but I think the two week break could impact the start of the series to some extent since there hasn't been a break like this during this season."

Your teams defensive ability has at least statistically been at an all time high this season, what are some of the factors that have made such an impact on that front?

"On paper it's easy to see that we've made a change on defense and that's one obvious reason. As a secondary reason I'd say the fact that our core has stuck together for such a long time. Chemistry is the most important element in the 6v6 mode."

Why will FILADELPHIA win and how will the series end?

"The 4-0 result last season didn't really do the series justice and the gameplay was way tighter. I think hREDS are playing a similar style as last season, but the individuals have developed. It's going to come down to the smallest of details, but we'll win 4-2 in the end, based on our experience from big games."

We're looking at a rematch from the finals last season. Back then, you guys played well but the results weren't quite there. What have you learned since then that's going to change the outcome?

"Last season, we made way too many mistakes, which eventually did us in. We made some changes in the offseason and I believe our game is now elevated to the point where we have more variations and make fewer mistakes."

About two weeks have passed since you beat HAVU and advanced to the finals, how have you dealt with this unusually long break and do you think it could have an impact on the play of either team?

"We took a few days off after our series win against HAVU, but otherwise we've kept on practicing normally. I don't think this break will have an impact either way."

Why will hREDS win and by how much?

"It'll be a tight series, but i'll say 4-3."

We saw tight matchups, beautiful goals as well as many surprises on our way to the finals of ECL 12 Pro. It is fair to say that two of the most dominant teams of the second half of the regular season and playoffs have paved their way to the finals.  5th seed Djurgarden Hockey will battle 12th seed Team LEISURE on Tuesday and Wednesday to determine who will hoist the cup in the Pro division this season.

The Swedish Djurgarden Hockey and German Team LEISURE will combine to host the ECL 12 Pro finals - only one team will gain direct promotion, whereas the other is in for a hard fought battle against KOVA Esports in the upcoming relegation battle. First, however, we'll focus on the finals ahead!

Over the past couple of seasons, Stockholm's pride Djurgarden have solidified their position as a true contender in the Pro division, but after a disappointing end to their ECL 11 campaign, they are surely determined to cap this one off a bit better. Captain @Jungledonk has surrounded himself with a tight knit group of players that are equally passionate about developing the team game, and it shows - the Swedes have plowed through opposition with relative ease throughout the season in it's entirety so far, with only Team LEISURE remaining in their way. Djurgarden's strength is their team play and adaptability, which will definitely come in handy in this series, but at times the group can end up on scoring dry spells. That is when goaltender @Sorsa103 bails them out with stellar play. In fact, Sorsa is WAY ahead of the competition statistically with a whopping 89,87 SV% to go with an equally great 1.07 GAA - keep an eye on this guy! @Strumpan87 is their leading scorer, but by no means do they solely ride on his success. While some guys will be hotter than others from time to time, Djurgarden is the definition of a squad with a team first-mentality.

Team LEISURE is, as stated before, on a mission to regain their position as the strongest German team in the league. That means getting back their spot in the Elite division first and foremost. After a somewhat underwhelming regular season, this team has showed that their style of play is truly suitable for postseason battles and it is their suffocating defense and quick turnover attack that they most likely will live and die by in the end. After all, it is something that they do exceptionally well, an art they've perfected if you will. Especially if you take a look at the matchup of both teams during the regular season with Djurgarden Hockey getting the edge over Team LEISURE by gaining 3 out of 4 possible Points (4-1 Djurgarden & 3-4OT Team LEISURE) we can expect a very tight series. Since the Germans started to find their rhythm in the second half of the season with @Flo_goes_grazy(flgr93) becoming the starter on the left wing and @PlaymakerSJbeing the experienced and world class center the team needed for a long playoff run to return to ECL Elite. Team LEISUREs defense is what made the team go all the way to this seasons final. In their last two playoff rounds against Conquer Gaming (4-0) and HV71 (4-1) the German outfit only conceded 5 goals in 9 games, with @RPH_31 securing four shutouts and recording a whopping 1.5 GAA in this postseason. Just as mentioned in the first Playoffs preview: Offense wins games but defense wins championships.

After a gruelling workload through the last three months, Wednesday night saw the two best teams in the Lite division clash for the final games of the season. Reality Check HC and noRex Gaming left it all on the ice and went the distance of seven games to eventually see the experienced and resilient Reality Check HC hoist the trophy after a big performance in the decisive game. We reached out to captain @Pursuitti for some comments on the teams season.

Before the season, you were eyeing a Pro spot, but suffered a disappointment in the qualifiers. Talk a bit about how your team handled the issue and how you tackled some struggles over the course of the season.

"It was definitely a disappointment to not make it through the Qualifiers. In fact, I feel like we played well in those games, but in the short tournament, one off night sealed the deal for us. Eventually, about a week before the start of the season it was clear that we needed to make some roster changes and managed to quickly find replacements in @ItzPoro and @Mister (linuseliel), who showed up big when called upon. Even though we had to make some hasty changes, which threw our game off a bit, we immediately set our sights on the Championship - and I'm glad we reached that goal."

You played a big role for the team throughout the season. Were there any other players that stepped up in a surprising way throughout your campaign?

"In my opinion, everyone finned their own role exceptionally well. If we were to take a look at things on an individual level, @TheArska (XxProArskaxX) stepped up for us as the season progressed and found new gears throughout the playoffs. ItzPoro and @jezbaru formed a very good defensive pairing, where Poro handled more of the defensive duties and Jesba served as out fourth man on the rush. Linus found his scoring touch at the start of the playoffs and although he cooled down a bit towards the end, he worked hard in both ends of the ice and secured the eventual championship for us with his 4-1 and 5-2 goals in the seventh game. @Kauppias4 is a guy I'm at a loss for words about. This guy played at an incredible level throughout the season and in the finals especially. Also a shoutout to @Kaapro666 (X_KABA_X), who served as our backup netminder and stayed positive, helping the team in that role all season."

What does the future hold for Reality Check HC?

"As I see it, our future is bright. We've got an excellent spirit within the squad and everyone shares the desire to develop their game as individuals and as a team. I feel like these things have the potential to take us far. I'm not sure if we'll ice a team for the upcoming FCL yet, but you'll definitely see Reality Check HC in the Pro division in ECL 13. Our objective is to maintain the same player core and as a captain, I naturally hope we don't have the need for any changes."

The ECL 12 Lite season has reached its very last stage. The two best teams are battling for glory. This best-of-seven series will determine this season's crown with all the excitement, fierce battle, goals, body checks, tremendous individual prowess and all you can ever ask for in the season finale.

Both of the finalists have been relatively dominant in the previous rounds. Reality Check HC haven't been able to sweep any rounds, whereas noRex have made quick work of United Front in round 2.

There are minimal differences in the key players for each team. Goaltending is one of the important areas when you are playing for the title. In that area noRex Gaming has had a small edge in terms of GAA but surprisingly even more of an advantage in SV% although both of the goalies have played more or less an equal amount of games so far in these playoffs. Both netminders are even in shutouts, but Reality Check goalie @Kauppias4 have accrued that number in fewer games.

Prediction: noRex Gaming has a slight edge in defending and goaltending - the key areas in this kind of tight series - and their scorers have also succeeded well. That minimal edge in defending and goaltending is likely to be crucial. noRex Gaming will grab the Lite title with a 4-2 series win.

@Pursuitti, Reality Check HC: “Our team are very excited about the finals of course. Although some of our players have already had some success in upper Pro, we put a lot of value on the Lite finals. For the finals, we are attempting to improve our level even more and enjoy this opportunity without too much stress. As a team playing on the Central European servers, we are not too familiar with noRex Gaming. However, when you look at their stats you instantly notice that noRex Gaming is a real well defending squad with a top goalie. They have scored a lot of goals in the playoffs so they have the firepower on attack too. Probably noRex Gaming has a slight advantage playing their home games on the Central European servers which might be difficult for opponents but I don't think it is a big issue in the finals. I'm expecting an even series with low goal scoring. We are firmly believing that we are able to beat noRex Gaming if we're able to maintain our basic level."

@Keuschemisch, noRex Gaming: “We are looking forward to a tight final series in this ECL Lite season. After having played a very successful and consistent season so far, we aren’t finished yet and want to win the last game of the season as well. Our goal before the season was to get back in Pro; after failing in the qualifier we were even more determined to get the spot and now we want to even top it. It will be some tough games against a former top Pro team with a great NHLGamer history and a highly skilled and experienced roster. We’ll have to focus on controlling their offensive power to beat them in this series, as well as being efficient on the offensive ourselves. We‘re ready for this challenge and want to wish Reality Check and everyone watching the games having fun playing and watching the finals!”

This past weekend we concluded the inaugural season of our ECL Core division and it was in a dominant manner that Resurrection was able to claim the very first championship in that division to their name. The young team bullied Stone Age to a 4-0 sweep and claimed the trophy, now sending them on an upwards trajectory towards qualifiers to come. Captain @Jiihooo86 is hopeful for the teams future: "I started building the team once my time with Old Farts came to an end. The objective was to create a team out of inexperienced players with exceptional defensive skill first and foremost. Defensively, we definitely were great all season long and @KinQjuusto & @Saukkis923 (JAMJAM923) found their chemistry as we moved along, but we also showcased our ability to adapt to the playstyle of whatever opponent we were facing. @Teemu97 and @jBoulder-mClump both filled their roles as offensive and defensive centermen respectively. Finally, our two-headed monster @tkantola and @Xkeineri showed great skill, which made it easy for the rest of the team to perform well in both ends of the ice. I'm excited about our future and next up we've got the Pro Qualifiers. We'll be making some adjustments over the offseason and already have an addition in skilled Czech player @BlazEm0de-(Domiinnn), who will be joining our offensive corps."

It's been a long season over the summer months and the efforts put in by all of the participating teams have been impressive to say the least. While some divisions are boiling down to the finishing moments, others have already concluded and with that we have new champions! After an impressive run throughout the season, our Neo division champions are HC SHH - congratulations!

NHLGamer reached out to assistant captain @jormatsefiina for some comments about the journey that his team has made:
"The championship means a lot to our team. We had some tough times and were close to falling apart at a point of the season, but eventually pulled through. The future looks good now, we'll be adding a few pieces to the puzzle and keep climbing the divisional ladder!"

HC SHH really grew as a team and managed to play at their very highest level especially towards the end of the season, their finals performance against RODIS was dominant to say the least. jormatsefiina comments: "Our goaltender @Kalle Hautala(haukikalle) was a player that improved exceptionally much and he kept us in play throughout several points of the season. In the finals, we knew we could overload RODIS' defense and gain the advantage through that, which worked well for us."

Both have a nice mix of players that have managed to gel together over the course of the long season. The finals are where their true potential is going to be measured.

(2)  Stone Age vs Resurrection  (16)

Stone Age have been on a mission throughout the season - a mission to prove everyone that they in fact still got it. Under command of experienced winger @Maexsa, several players seem to have found a second wind to their careers and are now performing way above their previous levels, especially as team players and important parts of a winning squad. Their playoff run hasn't been without trouble, however, and the team has struggled with converting on chances from time to time. As a result, several of their games have been rather low-scoring and the team has been denied a goal entirely in three of their last seven games. If Stone Age is to win it all, they need to find one more gear and presumed starting goaltender @Dick Weener(ewokvillage) needs to be at his very best.

On the other side, we've got challenger Resurrection, who are on a very similar mission. Despite having a very different roster to their competition, the squad has managed to maximize their performance and find new highs as the season has progressed further. Honestly, there might still be much more we haven't seen from this teams as especially youngsters @Xkeineri and @tkantola are very exciting to watch and should be players to keep an eye on in the future. Resurrection have had some ability to rotate players in the postseason and it'll be interesting to se what kind of lineup they'll ice for the finals, as they have found success with every formation they've used so far. Mainly, the choice might be between @Teemu97 or @jBoulder-mClump on the center lane.

Both teams certainly possess the skill needed to win it all, and the seven game series about to start will surely be an all-out war.

Prediction: 3-4 Resurrection

The quarterfinals of the playoffs are now behind and we know the semifinalists of ECL 12 Pro. The best four teams of the season have now already secured a chance to play for an Elite spot next season but the Pro title and instant promotion is what the four remaining teams are aiming for. We have seen tight matchups and big surprises. Team LEISURE managed to sweep Conquer Gaming - the best team of the regular season – in breathtaking fashion. HV71 and Blackdawgs fought until the end with the Swedish side getting the edge over the Russians in game 7. BoxinElite overcoming VISU Gaming by winning four straight after losing the series opening game and securing their spot among the top 4 of the league in their rookie season as well as Djurgarden Hockey taking the next step and beating the Finnish outfit from Kiekko-Espoo Esports in six games. In the following we will take a closer look at the two remaining matchups. Who will pave their way to the finals? What are the strengths and weaknesses of each team? (2)  HV71 - Team LEISURE  (12)

After playing against Inter Iceland in round 1, HV71 is now facing a German team for the second time in this playoffs already. The Swedish outfit around captain @Demski13 managed to beat Inter Iceland in six games and secure their place among the top 8 in the league. The esports team from Jönköping had a tough time in the quarterfinals against Blackdawgs. After being down 2-1 after the first evening in the series and losing game 3 in astonishing fashion with 0-6, the blue and yellow outfit seem to have drawn the right conclusions and fought back on the second evening of the series. By winning 3 games and securing a 7-1 victory in the deciding game 7, HV71 put an exclamation mark on claiming their spot among the top 4 in ECL Pro.

On the other side we find Team LEISURE. The German juggernauts might have found their form after the first half of the regular season only losing four games since including the playoffs. Being seeded at spot #7 the Germans were not able to secure home ice advantage which looks to suit them quite well. LEISURE did not lose a single game on the away server during their playoff run. Being able to beat Sulkavan Sudet in 7 games in round 1 the GCL record champion approached their biggest challenge so far in facing the #1 spot Conquer Gaming. The squad around captain @Franky__2768 looked as strong as never before and beating the former Finnish Elite outfit in crushing fashion. Team LEISURE secured their spot in the final four with a 4-0 sweep being able to shut down the strongest offense of the league three times and only conceding one goal in the whole series. Are the Germans on their way back to Elite?

While HV71's offense is improving during their playoff run and looking very strong around their trio of @Demski13, @Rubituss and @Zupancic_King424 (Zuppe_29), Team LEISURE will be a very tough nut to crack defensively. Captain Franky__2768 and @xXPsykoSkillsXx found themselves as the top two scoring D-men in the regular season but seem to given up their scoring abilities to their forwards and focus on shutting down the opponents offense. @RPH_31 already secured three shutouts, which are the most in the playoffs of ECL 12 Pro so far. Both teams have found their qualities on both ends of the ice and always managed to find the right solutions to overcome their opponents in the playoffs. Especially the center matchup will be a decisive factor in this semifinal. Both players are top scorers of their teams and are extremely strong at the faceoff dot. @PlaymakerSJ contributed with 26 points (11G+15A) in 11 games to his teams success while also managing to win over 55% of his faceoffs giving his team the slight edge in tight games. Demski scored 25 points in 13 games and was always able to decide a matchup with contributing three game winning goals in their current run.

Both teams are looking very strong which could make the series go either way. While HV71 played on a good and solid level for the whole season, the ex-Elite team of the former Deadly Phantoms HC found their form quite late in this years ECL. The winger duo of @ProfaneKiss and @Flo_goes_grazy (flgr93), who is playing his rookie season on Pro level, seem to harmonize even better with each game. After losing in the Elite relegation 4-2 against Tunnel Vision, LEISURE’s goal was clear: Instant promotion back to Europes Top 16. But will they be able to break down HV71 defense around @Terasniska, @Putteekiing and @Tiipponenii (Coffelainen)? The Swedish squad often enough proved this season that they took the next step in their development and are one of toughest teams to beat in ECL Pro. Since Team LEISURE already has the experience of four seasons on Elite level, as well as winning the Pro title back in ECL 7, the Germans could have the edge over their North European competitor. The away game disadvantage seems not to have any impact on their gameplan which makes it hard for any team in the league to beat Team LEISURE in their current form.

If they struggled a bit surprisingly in the first round, the quarterfinals saw BoxinElite most definitely get back where they left off in the regular season. The high-flying Pro rookies took down VISU Gaming a lot easier than anticipated, only losing the opening game before winning the next four in a row. Getting their revenge on their playoff foes from last season is sure to give the Finns a nice boost when they look to take on the next challenge.

The quarterfinals were not as easy for Djurgarden Hockey as they cleanly swept first round. That was expected though, and while they have had tight results for the whole season they have still ended up on top most of the time. Once again they did just that, narrowly avoiding a game seven by getting it done in six. The matchup went just about as expected as the Swedes continue onwards with their solid team play and routine, backstopped by amazing stats from netminder @Sorsa103 (10 GP, 88.78%, 1.1 GAA, 2 SO). As already stated, Djurgarden Hockey’s games have been quite tight. “How tight?”, one might ask. Well, their only loss with more than a one goal margin came with a 0-2 result. BoxinElite on the other hand have lost with a two plus goal margin six times out of the 13 in which they have fallen.

Both teams have already secured a chance to play for an Elite spot, but avoiding that best of seven series altogether by grabbing the Pro title is at the top of their minds as they still have plenty of games left to play. BoxinElite has a relatively unproven squad, but @Prom99 and @Mehiiss have already been at this stage a few years ago with White Trash (now known as KOVA Esports). Although they lost to FILADELPHIA in the semifinals back then, they still managed to get promoted ahead of ECL 7. That experience is going to come in handy as they prepare to face off against a team that does not have any players with the same background.

While BoxinElite might be the more offensive one of the teams, their defense has not had a bad performance either. Will it be Djurgarden who makes the series a small margins one, or will the Finns’ offensive prowess prevail? It will be interesting to see who manages to turn the results their way and pave their road to the final. Seeing how the teams’ playing styles match up and how well gelled the Swedes are, it seems like BoxinElite will have to overcome the predicted results just like they did in the last round. It is close though, so once again do not be surprised no matter whose way this goes. As we saw in the quarterfinal series between Conquer Gaming and Team LEISURE, even a presumed seven game series can end in a sweep.

If you feel like you've seen this before, you're not wrong! FILADELPHIA and Farjestad have went head-to-head at this stage back in ECL 10, which was the last time Farjestad was seen in the semifinals. Back then, the Swedes faltered 4-1, but have strengthened their squad considerably since then, while keeping the core intact around captain Christoffer @I-Maise-I Berntsson. To differ from their previous seasons, the new and improved FBK are now on par with the best of them in terms of offensive power with the emergence of Johan @Lehmannens Lehmann and Hampus @l-Furyan-l Duvefelt among the very best of defensemen in terms of point production. The problem is - this has happened at the cost of defensive responsibilities at times - Farjestad has an average goals conceded way above the rest of the semifinalist teams, and a significant drop from their numbers last season.

FILADELPHIA, the reigning champions. They are on yet another impressive run towards their sixth consecutive finals appearance and is the only team currently in the Elite division to make the finals every season since they entered the top 16. On top of that impressive stat, the team also broke their own record of the highest regular season point total ever with a whopping 58(!). The black and orange remained undefeated in regulation throughout the regular season, but suffered their first loss against IQUE in the quarterfinals. Now facing the very familiar Farjestad, who they made easy work of in the regular season, there should be no stopping FILA in a long seven game series. 

This series will be decided in two main areas - the center lane and on defense. There is no doubt about the fact that FILADELPHIA captain Joonas @Patzlaf Paatiala has the edge on Farjestad center @I-Maise-I, and the Finn rarely takes days off. Maise needs to step up his game in the faceoff circle and find a way to help his team more off the puck if they are to overcome the beast of a team that FILA currently is. On defense, however, the current form of Farjestad duo @Lehmannens and @l-Furyan-l tops that of FILA's Aleksi @loimmu Loimuvirta and Teemu @Xteemuz Polttila in terms of production, but the Swedes will need to stay patient and not sacrifice their defensive end, since every mistake will be costly against the defending champs.

hREDS is one of those teams that have been on the rise for quite some time already. Since entering the top 16 back in ECL 10, the squad has made minor changes and managed to improve every season. Their last campaign was their first finals appearance and ended in a rather quick exit, but now the offensive powerhouse could be ready to take things that one step further with last seasons experience in mind. Former radar duo Perttu @Beniittto Kemppainen and Vili @Vilupoika Häkkinen reunited this season, resulting in a career high in Elite points for both, while Niklas @NikkeDangles Tukiainen followed close behind also reaching career high numbers. On defense, the addition of Aaro @xDoumi Ruuhinen alongside Tuukka @Tuukka.R (KingOfApes_) Röpelinen makes for an offense first-pairing, that have managed to help out young star goaltender Filip @Faze91- Azri in a great way so far. 

If hREDS have managed to improve on a steady pace, the engine of HAVU Gaming hasn't been chugging along quite as nicely. Despite making the playoffs in the top three once agains, the black and green collected their lowest point total ever (under the HAVU banner) in the Elite division and they mustn't be happy about that. The recent ground-and-pound laid upon YMCA Esports in the quarterfinals surely salvages some of that confidence and we'll see if HAVU can return to their strong form looking for revenge against hREDS. The return of Ilmari @Buantso Lehkonen to the left wing is massive for HAVU, as the man usually brings out the best of himself and his teammates in the playoffs. 

Last season, HAVU Gaming suffered from an inability to convert on scoring chances against hREDS, whereas the other side was the clearly more prevalent squad on that front. Looking blindly at the stats, it is apparent that we could be in for a similar show this season too, but as seen before - anything could happen in the playoffs. Special teams have been great for both sides and the two are very evenly matched in that department, but hREDS is the far more aggressive squad. In fact, hREDS were the most penalized team of the regular season and can't afford to continue that trend in the semifinals.

Prediction: hREDS in 7

ECL 12 Lite has now reached the semifinals and with that the last four teams remain. There are now two teams from each of the two groups: Groups 2 and 4. They are facing their own groups teams so it makes for an interesting setup where one can look back at the regular season matches. Also the finals are guaranteed to be between a team from each group. Both pairs were 1-1 wins in the regular season in very tight and minimal goal scoring games. These playoff series are expected to follow that very same format: tight defending, a minimal amount of goals, great goaltending and in the end, the team with the better nerves will prevail.

Reality Check HC is a clear favorite in this series although the games in the regular season between these teams were tight. Reality Check HC has looked dominant during the whole season and is the  team with more experience and therefore more stability in their performance level. This can give them a crucial edge in this series. Lulea Hockey does have the skillset to surprise strong teams and have done so previously this season, they have a solid defense, which has been the recipe for their success so far.

Prediction: Reality Check wins 4-2

(2)  noRex Gaming vs Powerhouse HC  (9)

This is a series with no clear favorite. noRex has been on a mission to get back to the Pro level all season, but Powerhouse HC is a team of rather unknown players that have polished their skill and taken down team after team. Both have played very balanced seasons with good routine levels. Game 7 would not be a surprise - in fact very expected. 

Prediction: Powerhouse HC wins 4-3

Players to watch

Like always there are many players appropriate to be highlighted but you can only pick some of them. Due to the low scoring nature of the playoffs, goaltending is one of the crucial elements in these series to determine which team wins. Therefore I highlighted all the semifinalist goalies. Some of them are higher in wins stats and some have better SV% or GAA or SO stats than others. All those components of the goaltending game will have an effect on how these series turn out in the end. Similarily, due to scoring being so tough, the skaters and defenders I have included here must succeed in scoring. In small margin games and series, every small detail goes a long way towards securing your team the win.

The ECL 12 Lite season has reached it's quarterfinal stage. It is time to look briefly at all four exciting quarterfinal matchups and speculate around them and highlight some of the players in these series. Quite exceptional is the fact that four of these eight best teams are from group 4, whereas three are from Group 2- only one squad from outside of these two.

(1)  Reality Check HC vs Hokurit  (27)

The number one seed Reality Check HC is facing one of the phenomenons of the season in Hokurit. Hokurit are about to face their biggest challenge yet but they are used to being in that underdog status and have gone up against the odds twice already in these playoffs. Will the streak continue? Reality Check HC is in top form and it won't be easy. The success of Hokurit has been based on high-class defending. They haven't scored much but neither have their opponents. That trend must continue in order to have any hopes of eliminating Reality Check HC. 

Prediction: Reality Check HC wins 4-2
 

(2)  noRex Gaming vs Södertälje SK  (23) 

noRex Gaming is one the biggest contenders to win the Lite title. They have been very impressive on their campaign so far in both of the previous rounds with only one loss in 9 games. Their opponents have also been rather skilled teams, so noRex should be in great form. Södertälje SK have had a much longer road to quarterfinals but might be a team that warms up when the really big games start. noRex Gaming is a favorite in this series too.

Both of the teams were ranked as potential success teams before the start of the season. Both have also redeemed the expectations so far pretty well. They will most likely have a fierce battle in this series for place in the semifinals. Game 7 would not be a surprise at all.

Prediction: Powerhouse HC wins 4-3

(11)  Lulea Hockey vs Unwanted  (13)

This is a pretty even pair in advance. Both have had one game 7 series so far and one easier series. Seems both have had to struggle similarly in previous rounds. Game 7 won't be out of reach in this series also. The lookout is very similar for each side as both are relying on one forward to provide primary scoring and the team to win the series will need support from their second and third man. The team that can take the edge away from their opponent will have the advantage in this series. 

Prediction: Unwanted wins 4-2

Players to watch

Like always there are many players appropriate to be highlighted but you can only pick so many. All of these players I have highlighted are more or less key players of their teams. It is appropriate to mention the contribution of Unwanted and Hokurit goalies @KASINELONEN and @wilinhoo - Both have hugely improved their SV% from the regular season and especially KASIINELONEN has a notable 5 SO in the playoffs and has improved in that stat also since the regular season.

First on the docket is FILADELPHIA vs. IQUE in what can only be described as a complete and utter landslide in favour of the orange and black brigade. No disservice to IQUE, but personally I just do not see a single aspect in their line-up that could challenge FILADELPHIA to any meaningful degree. If it becomes a high-scoring, end-to-end, affair – FILADELPHIA wins. If it becomes a low-scoring, cagey and uneventful display – FILADELPHIA wins. If it becomes a special-teams battle where games are decided upon critical penalties taken for, or against, a particular team – FILADELPHIA wins.

Can IQUE find a way to pull off the upset though? Well, to put it simply, they have to play perfectly. On top of this small task, they will need to lean heavily on @Pirtsa89, @Makeaxl, @zNico, and @laitineen64 to clog up anything in front, then, and perhaps most importantly of all, capitalise, on any quick counters using their wingers in @santeerii, and @Nieppii.

FILADELPHIA’s path to victory? Show up… and that’s about it.

Next up we have hREDS vs. POGGERS, which has the potential to be the highest scoring series in the ECL 12 Playoffs. Both teams are geared towards quick counters and ‘direct’ play. Both have shown throughout the season to be able to put up a large number of goals in a single game (7 for POGGERS, and 10 for hREDS). Both also boast a d-core that is offensively minded, with hREDS’s defenders (@xDoumi & @Tuukka.R) finishing 6^th and 10^th , and POGGERS’ (@Terodee & @Eemil) finishing 4^th and 15^th, respectively.

This similarity in style however can be POGGERS’ downfall here, however. Much like with IQUE before them, in order to secure their spot in the semi-final POGGERS cannot fall into the trap of believing they can simply just go toe-to-toe with hREDS and get into a scoring-fest. hREDS can, and will, skewer any exposed POGGERS defenders if given the chance, so anticipating this one would understand if POGGERS attempted to curtail their offensive aggression in an attempt to not only give themselves more time with the puck, but to give their defenders time and space to recover from the hREDS onslaught they are likely to receive. Indeed, even this might not be enough, with hREDS’ @Beniittto nigh on solely possessing the ability to create something from absolutely nothing – something that the POGGERS’ players will be very accustomed to as the series wages on.

 HAVU Gaming (3) vs. YMCA Esports (6)

Again, no disrespect to the lower seeds mentioned previously, but these next two series are where the action will be if you are looking for series where the games have the potential to not only be competitive but could even go the distance to the always entertaining game 7.

HAVU Gaming, as always, has finished the season in a strong position, albeit I’m sure with a bit of anger stemming from not performing up to their usual stratospheric level. Indeed, this first round matchup presents HAVU with a real test for once in a long time, or at least one that has the potential for it. Throughout this season HAVU has been as ironclad defensively as seasons past, however their offense has spluttered compared to their usual pace and is sitting at ‘only’ 2.87, good for 4^th in the league ahead of a very close GOONS squad, and distantly back from Färjestad BK in 3^rd. Of course, it’s not like the forward core of HAVU hasn’t faced adversity in the past and overcome difficult situations – in fact it may very well be that the duo of @Dominointi and @FlyerKungen once again turn it up a notch and find that ‘extra’ gear now that the playoffs are upon us.

YMCA Esports on the other hand are coming into the series with the best defence out of the lower seeds (5-8) and the 4^th best amongst all ECL Elite Playoff teams, although it should be stated here that this comes with somewhat mild caveat of YMCAs offence being the second most anaemic out of all playoff teams. Nevertheless, if YMCA are able to score the first goal, thanks in no small part to the engine of the team at C in @Timasy, then they stand a real chance of doing some damage in this matchup. Outside of that and simply frustrating HAVU, it is still rather difficult to nudge the needle in favour of YMCA over the course of a BO7, regardless of the potential issues that HAVU may be facing.

We now arrive at the series that has the most potential for an upset (whatever that means in a series where the 4^th seed plays the 5^th seed), but also one that has the potential to realistically go either way.

Much has been made about Färjestad BK over the past few seasons. Indeed, I’m sure everyone has their own opinion regarding how they play but one cannot argue with the results they have forged as of late. Back-to-back 4^th place finishes in the regular season is nothing to turn your nose up against, in fact this season they even cracked the 20-win plateau which is approaching some serious rarefied air as far as ECL Elite goes as very few sets of teams can join them in this achievement. Despite this, Färjestad BK comes into this series with nothing set in stone as their opponent in GOONS, whilst a lower seed, finished only a measly 2pts behind them in the standings and are seemingly finding more and more confidence as their season goes on.

In truth, I cannot quite pin down this series and predict how it will go with much certainty. Färjestad BK are battle-tested and experienced in playoff situations across all manner of tournaments, with all their players possessing vast experience from previous ECL or SCL Playoffs. That said, one could make the argument that they are somewhat one dimensional, with most of their attacks being structured around and emanating from @I-Maise-I – take particular care in shutting down the middle of the ice across all three zones and Färjestad BK may develop some issues. On the other hand, GOONS are somewhat similar in that @kriketski17 forms a large part of their offence in the way that he sets the tempo of the team before dishing it to his wingers, granted GOONS’ offence is much more free-flowing than Färjestad BK’s so if effort is made to shut-down @kriketski17, then this strategy may be dulled in its effectiveness by GOONS’ flexibility.

It should also be noted that Färjestad BK has a massive advantage on the special teams front, with a superior power-play and penalty-kill. Therefore, it would be wise for GOONS to minimise how often they go on little adventures to the box, lest they provide Färjestad BK’s deadly PP with an opportunity to be the difference maker. Indeed, it may very well be the case that the fate of this series is decided based on how many penalties GOONS offer up – although there is some hope that this won’t come to a head as GOONS recorded the fewest amount of PIMS this season.

Fellow hockey fans, the Core division Semifinal pairs have been decided and now we are ready to find out the Finalists of the very first ECL Core season. First of all, I want to say thanks to all of the teams that participated in the ECL 12 Core season. It has been a pleasure to see how many teams this division had, and that made it interesting to watch throughout the season. This preview includes four of the best teams in this division, and I'm extremely excited to see how these matchups finish.

STARGAZING and STONE AGE have both been in a dominant mode all season long, and both of them had a number 1 seed in their groups after the regular season. The firepower of these teams has been really good, and they've had an easy job protecting the net for their team (SGZ:26GP - 1.46 GAA, AGE: 28GP - 1.5G AA in the regular season). We can assume that their defenses are pretty organized in the semi’s also, and scoring against these teams is going to be hard.

Key points for home teams

It's hard to find any kind of achilles' heel for STARGAZING, I mean at least when u look at the stats. Stargazing have performed almost flawlessly throughout the playoffs, and will of course be one of the favorites to raise the cup at the end of the season. The main factor of their game is the two-way playing style. This team can score through their wingers and center, but also defenders participate in the offensive plays very actively and that also goes for the forwards participating on defence really well. In the defensive end, they have @Emppa988 (6+16 in 17 games), who is one of the top scoring defensemen in the playoffs, and should be a marked man for the opponent.

STONE AGE on the other hand, have had some troubles in the playoffs and there are couple of things that worries me. This team has had troubles with keeping their performance up. From time to time there are difficulties to perform against seemingly easier opponents, for example their last two opponents in the playoffs (Team Rocket & hc marko). This is the time for this team to find their best performance especially from the teams leading characters @anttiko10, @Maexsa and @Liukq.

Starting away Teams

TOHTORIT and RESURRECTION both are their own groups #2 seeds and are on rather solid runs this season so far. Both of them eliminated each others groups #1 seed in the quarterfinals (Arkham Asylum lost to Tohtorit 2-4 and Pasilan SKA lost Resurrection 0-4), so well deserved Semifinal spots all around. These teams also have pretty good defensive stats, and it will not be a walk in the park for the home teams in their first games of the semi’s.

Key points for away teams

TOHTORIT is a talented and skilful team. This team’s performance lies on their offensive line @Ojala16, @Linkku60 and @Ristimaki12 and their ability to score, with @johtaja_lebi creating plays on defence. You can’t be underestimating this team at all, or they will surely put the puck in the net more than twice per game. over their last 3 games against Arkham Asylum, they only allowed three goals behind @Stammer70, so good luck for breaking that defense.

RESURRECTION Finished second in their group before the playoffs and they have managed to keep the flow going on. Their influence this season was the acquisition of the two-headed monster @tkantola and @Xkeineri. This duo have had an impressive influence on the team, but you also can't forget the third wheel of their offense - @Teemu97 was called upon in the second round of playoffs and quickly filled his spot, gaining the trust of his team and diversifying options for the squad. Defensively the team is very solid and balanced, but there is still room to improve especially in net for experienced netminder @Jiihooo86.

Teams from Group 1 were quite dominant in the first round of the ECL 12 Pro Playoffs, with the number one seed Conquer Gaming being the only team from Group 2 to advance. It is now time to get ready for the quarterfinals though, so without further ado let’s get into the preview:

(1)  Conquer Gaming – Team LEISURE  (12)

Conquer Gaming have been impressive throughout the whole season and are not thinking about easing up before the mission is complete. Their first round series against Bjorkloven Esport ended convincingly 4-1, with every game being close and getting decided by only one goal except for their single loss (0-5). Team LEISURE on the contrary did not have an easy time with Conquer’s Group 2 runner ups Sulkavan Sudet, only getting the job done in the deciding game seven. In the other series that included cross-server gameplay, the home team ended up on top in 12 out of 13 games, meanwhile in Team LEISURE’s series it was the away team that won every single game. This could be interpreted as a sign of the teams’ ability to adapt to the higher ping, or just as a random occurrence. We will see how it shapes out in this series.

Both teams have similar public images as squads that value strong team play and defence. Both of them are also former Elite teams looking to get back to where they once were. The prior statements are starting to get pretty repetitive after being copied and pasted into quite literally every Pro article this season, but do not worry, you will not have to bear it much longer: one of these two teams is finally going to be able to start their summer vacations next week. For now, it seems more likely that it will be Team LEISURE as they are the ones that have had the tougher time thus far. Could they possibly use their recently gained momentum to gain the edge over Conquer? It is not completely off the cards, so definitely check in on this battle to find out. Team LEISURE may also be able to benefit from playing a tighter first series, meanwhile Conquer Gaming has been steadily plowing through the competition for the whole season without many mishaps.

Prediction: Conquer Gaming 4-3

(2)  HV71 – Blackdawgs  (10)

Despite a few big margin losses, Blackdawgs were able to win the game seven against Patience to advance to the quarterfinals. The stat line did not seem to flatter them, with their opponents often having the lion’s share of time on attack and for example the deciding game ending with Blackdawgs scoring four goals on four shots. They found the four wins anyway though, which speaks volumes about their resilience and perhaps even skill on defending against the most dangerous of chances. HV71 was on the other side of this equation in their own series, having a lot more puck possession than their opponents Inter Iceland. The Swedes ended up on top with a 4-2 series score, and are now looking to repeat it against a team that they have already won twice this season: Blackdawgs lost (1-3, 2-4) in both games between them during group play.

HV71 had a strong regular season and are not looking to take their feet off the gas pedal just yet. They already have the experience of beating the current Blackdawgs roster, along with the added confidence boost of winning against a team with a somewhat similar playing style in the first round. To hope to extend the series and eventually triumph, the underdogs on the other hand need to have learned their lessons in the weeks that have passed since the regular season matchup, in addition to coming up with some fresh elements to their game after the last playoff round. Unless the ‘dawgs find those new tricks up their sleeves, this one should go quite clearly in HV71’s favor as they march on towards the top four.

(4)  BoxinElite – VISU Gaming  (7)

BoxinElite did not have as convincing of an appearance in the first round as anticipated, with the French SPARTIATES X MCES taking the series all the way to, yes, once again, a game seven. Was it just a case of not being used to playing on the Central servers, or was it a warning sign that they could be taken down with some solid, patient defending? They won every home game, but also lost every away match. Fellow Group 1 team VISU Gaming performed about on par with the expectations, stopping short the season of Pata Hellalla 4-2. They showed their strength of character in game six by evening up the score just 14 seconds before the final horn and then wrapping up the hard fought series in overtime. @Pettersson12 and @Jjmakkeli (JussinSisko) split the playing time, with the former going undefeated, so it is going to be interesting to see whether this arrangement continues or if one of them is going to claim the starting spot for good. VISU was the only team going through from the first round that did not stick with the same starting six for the whole series.

Similarly to the HV71 - Blackdawgs matchup, these teams have already played against each other this season, though more recently. Barely a week and a half has passed since the regular season finale, where BoxinElite bounced back in the second game with a 3-2 score after losing to VISU with a hefty 2-6 in the first one. BoxinElite will surely be looking to get revenge as the loss prevented them from winning the group, but their opponents seem to have been getting their early season groove back on. VISU also ended up on top (with a clean 4-0 sweep) when the two faced each other last season in the Lite quarterfinals. Both teams have changed around half of their respective rosters since then, so that result should not be read into too strongly except for the mental side of things. BoxinElite need to step up and find the same spark that made them blossom in the regular season, or otherwise this could result in a rather unpleasant flashback to last season on their part. A bit like the Sulkavan Sudet - Team LEISURE matchup in the first round, this is a series where an apparent underachiever meets a strong regular season team in a clash that many think favors the playing style of the former.

(5) Djurgarden Hockey – Kiekko-Espoo Esports (6) Written by @viivimaria

Kiekko-Espoo Esports faced Dynastia in the first round of the playoffs. The match series was very eventful, as it included very great goals and one marathon match, in which the decisive goal wasn't found until in the sixth overtime period. The most important characters of Kiekko-Espoo were the team captain @Hazard-laser and perhaps @sMiika, who stepped up when called upon a bit surprisingly. Both players strapped the team to their backs in tight situations.

Swedish team Djurgården meanwhile, won against Hotbox by a pure 4-0 sweep in the first round of the playoffs. A much tougher struggle is expected from the upcoming quarterfinals, rather than another overpowering by the Swedes. One of the absolute top characters of the Swedish team was also goalkeeper @Sorsa103.

After the first round of the playoffs, both goalkeepers of this match pair can be found in the top positions in the statistics and are relatively superior in comparison to the competition. Although sMiikaG did very well in the opening round of the playoffs, it is still to be expected that @jg697000(Gresu__), who played as the team’s top goalie, will return to the playing lineup in the next matches for Kiekko-Espoo. What is certain, is that the blueshirts have two great goalkeepers, either of which can be put on the ice as the playoffs progress.

A very steady fight is expected from the upcoming semi-final series, and a great team will advance regardless of the outcome. Special teams and the conversion of scoring chances are also further emphasized

The fifth week of ECL Elite action brought some interesting matchups and equally interesting results. Some squads managed to pet their stats, while others managed to find their way into an even deeper hole than before. As we're heading into the last few gamedays of the regular season, every point is crucial and truly anything could still transpire at the finish line.

Monday's broadcast was already an exciting one as last seasons ECL Pro teams GOONS and Tunnel Vision clashed to the beautifully sounding voices of your favorite casters Cody @Tougie24 Tougas and Paul @Cyn Anderson. GOONS have already been a heavily debated team so far, proving great performances despite their inexperience but also due to the mystery surrounding their logo artwork - NHLGamer has taken an official stance on it being a badger, but the organization has not commented on the heated debate yet. Tunnel Vision, on the other hand, have not fared as well, finding themselves in danger of relegation. Up until Sunday, the team found themselves in 15th place with a mere six wins - one of them against GOONS in their rivalry clash.

A notable absence in the top four this season has been JYP Jyvaskyla, who have lacked the consistent and effective play they have been known for, and now find themselves out of the playoffs in need of some help to even get back in. Unfortunately last week did not help their case with only one win out of their four total in matchups against POGGERS and FILADELPHIA. Today, JYP sits in 10th place with the possibility to reach 7th if everything should fain for POGGERS, IQUE and SAWO ESPORTS ahead of them - a playoff berth does look unlikely.

Most teams have already solidified their approximate spots in the standings at this point, but it is till very tight around the relegation zone and all squads are surely going all out to avoid having to go into those gruelling battles against the cream of the crop in the Pro division. To end last week, we had seven teams within a four point margin on places 9-15, and by now it seems like only SAWO ESPORTS might have clawed their way into safety. Keep an eye out for these fights in the very last rounds!

Interestingly enough, FILA and hREDS have been barking at each other a bit on social media in regards to the scoring stats department. Right now we're looking at a triple lead in quite dominant fashion for the big, bad reds as Perttu @Beniittto Kemppainen, Vili @Vilupoika Häkkinen and Niklas @NikkeDangles Tukiainen have really heated up as the playoffs are closing in. hREDS is by a decent margin the highest scoring team in the league and the average of 4 goals for per game should push them to at least another finals appearance in the playoffs too, should they be able to keep that going.

Defensively, FBK star Johan @Lehmannens Lehmann continues to shine, as he has been throughout the duration of the season. He does have backup in the form of Hampus @l-Furyan-l Duvefelt and together they make for possibly the best defensive pair in the league right now - FBK is 9-1-0 thru their last ten games, look to have their eyes set on the 4th seed towards the playoffs and are receiving some heavy secondary scoring from their defensemen.

An all around dominant season by Casper @ICappeI Lundgren isn't anything we're not used to, but now the man is chasing his shutout record of 12 shutouts in the regular season. Finishing last week at seven and adding two more on Monday has him looking good with six more games to go in the season. The honorable mention this week goes to Oskari @SibeIius Grönroos of HAVU Gaming, who recorded two shutouts against Northern Ascendancy last week and has been sharing duties with Hannes @Hansulinho Kettunen as the statistically better part of the strong tandem.

Stargazing continues being the favorite to advance to the semifinals from this matchup. Even though Tadpole made a huge statement in round 3 where they managed to make a big comeback, the difference between these teams is far too big. The biggest factors are going to be in the net, as the Tadpole goalie @Zuominen (Zumppi_) hasn't had the easiest playoffs so far. A big reason for this is also the difficulties Tadpole has had to defend as a five man unit from time to time. Tadpole needs to step up defensively to hold the scoring chances at minimum for Stargazing if they are to pose a threat for the #1 seed. Stargazing swept their opponent Mora IK in round 3, and I can't see a reason why they wouldn't continue on that path.

Even though Stone Age took a 4-1 win against hc marko, it felt a little bit odd to see their games. It seemed like their feel for the game was gone the whole series and they just showed up, somehow making that enough to advance. hc marko took four out of five games to OT and I think in two of those games Stone Age came back from being down in the last minutes. Hopefully we see the old Stone Age in the Quarterfinals! This series will be the battle of the goalies. Team Rocket is a pretty welcome surprise with their 1-4 series win over Lemmenvelhot, and will be a big challenger for Stone Age in my books. Team Rocket has a balanced team in front of @Tlindgren96 (HelloImDonga), and that will be a big factor in this series.

Both of these teams are on convincing playoff runs without too many hickups on their road so far, but this will be the end for one of these stories this season. Pasilan SKA is entering the series following a comfortable sweep against Virtuoso, who could not match the scoring power that SKA and mainly @hene kettu (juuhen25) combined with @Hokitero71 (macentoitunu) has displayed so far. Now, Resurrection who are on a similar run and also very easily trampled Its a nice city in round 3 will aim to stop SKA. Resurrection has a wide array of weapons in their arsenal, mainly the two-headed monster @tkantola & @Xkeineri up front, but also strong backup like @Teemu97. It'll be an exciting clash, and both goalies will have their hands full in order to stop scoring explosions from happening.

This series is interesting. Arkham, who were the #1 team in group 8 against Tohtorit, who were the #2 team in group 7. I wouldn’t be surprised if we will see a game 7 in this matchup. Tohtorit managed to squeak by Jokers Hockey in round 3 in a thrilling series thet extended to seven games. Tohtorit managed to win the decisive bout with a goal in OT to advance with a 1-0 win. If Tohtorit could find the same gear that they had in the regular season, this series would be a walk in the park, but lately they have had some troubles on the horizon. Perhaps Arkhams playstyle will be a more suitable match for them? Arkham took a solid 4-1 series win over BonusAmbers, but they had some difficulties in their game. It’s rare to go 126 minutes in a n ECL playoff game, but they did just that - finally winning the decisive match by an own goal to put them in the quarterfinals. Scoring should be improved!

We have seen some surprises as well as favorites defending the top spots in their groups. In the following preview we want to take a closer look at the upcoming eight matchups in the first round. (1)  HV71 – Inter Iceland  (8)

With an important 4-2 victory over Rookie Mistakes on the last gameday, German side Inter Iceland managed to secure the last playoff spot in Group 2. The squad around goalie @PLA77NER(Hasek-39--) was not able to repeat their stunning regular season from ECL 11 Pro where they managed to secure a strong rank 2 behind Tunnel Vision but found an early exit in playoff round 1 against RCTIC (2-4). Forward @Stefan_397 once again leads the team in terms of scoring and will be one of their most decisive factors during this budding playoff run. On the flipside we find the Swedish side of HV71 who won Group 1 with a strong record of 22-8-0. The club from Jönköping manages to qualify for their first postseason on Pro level and will be one of the top contenders if they are able to continue their form. One of the best offenses combined with the third best defense in the whole league will be a tough nut to crack.

While HV71 was the only team in the whole league to not lose a single match in overtime, Inter Iceland fell short four times. Keeping their calmness and staying cool in the right moments will be one of the most decisive factors in a tight series. Both goalies can play an important role. While Hasek-39-- is surely one of the most experienced goalies in the community, @Tiipponenii(coffelainen) finds himself among the top goalies in ECL 12 Pro and records 8 shutouts - the most of any goalie during the regular season. The offense around captain @Demski13has found the right balance between playmaking and goal scoring abilities. While Elite experienced @Rubituss finds himself on rank 3 with 64 points, while his winger partner @Zupancic_King424 (Zuppe_29) contributed with 24 goals for his team. It is worth mentioning that 11 out of his 24 goals were GWGs! While HV71's dominant playing style could suit Inter Iceland’s dangerous counter attacks it will be hard to beat the squad in blue and yellow.

(2)  BoxinElite – SPARTIATES X MCES  (7)

The promoted squad from BoxinElite managed to play a stunning regular season and finished on a more than convincing rank 2. They only fell one point short to group winners HV71 due to losing one game in OT against Sinister. Team captain @xleksa35leads by example. Being one of the top scorers in ECL 11 Lite the, right winger showed his individual class once again - 68 points in 30 games makes him the second best scorer in the league. SPARTIATES X MCES had a tough start to the season. With only two wins out of their first 13 games the French side was surely not paving their way to a possible playoff appearance but had an amazing second half of the season. Winning 13 out of their last 15 games secured them rank 7 and their first postseason in their first season at the Pro level. The French are the third team from the central server to qualify for the playoffs beside Team LEISURE and Inter Iceland from Germany.

The Finnish BoxinElite is in clear favour of winning this series. Having one of the strongest offenses as well as a solid defense the stage is set for a long playoff run. While special teams could always make a difference – especially in a tight playoff series – both teams are lacking in efficiency while being on the powerplay. BoxinElite had the best penalty kill in their group (94,44%) and will be very hard to break down even while being one man short. It will be interesting to see if SPARTIATES X MCES are able to maintain their strong form and continue their five game winning streak. The winger duo of @Winciand @Adri1_SCP needs to produce and convert any chance given into a goal. High efficiency will be the most important factor. Will the French side be able to perform in the underdog role?

The team from Sweden's capital found themselves among the top teams of Group 1 for the whole season. With a record of 18-7-5 Djurgarden Hockey secured rank 3 and home ice advantage in the first round. The Swedish side added @Strumpan87 from SSK Esports to their roster who immediately became their top scorer and contributed with 57 points in 30 games. While Danish Winger @Birkedal96 left the team after 6 games to ZSC Esports in ECL Elite, @amadee21 started every game on the right wing and found himself on a strong scoring streak. Lower seeded Hotbox started with a 5 game losing streak into this ECL 12 campaign. After getting acclimated to the Pro level, the Finnish squad started to collect their first points and especially being superior in winning tight matches by only one goal. Captain @Frans-Fin, who played every game in the regular season is also the teams best scorer with 44 points in 28 games followed by his winger colleague @James(Jamechkin) who contributed 35 points to the teams success.

While Hotbox records the league's best powerplay with 34,21%, Djurgarden Hockey records the league's best defense by only conceding 45 goals in 30 games. Like in every series, special teams may be a decisive reason to win or lose games. It will be interesting to see if the Swedish side manages to stay away from the penalty box or if Hotbox will be able to break down Djurgardens solid defense. While the Finnish outfit of Hotbox is quite new to ECL Pro playoffs territory, the Swedish squad is well experienced on that ground. Finishing on rank 2 last season and beating Blackdawgs (4-2) in round 1 but falling short to later promoted ZSC Esports (0-4) the squad around captain @Jungledonk will be keen on taking the next step. Right according to the mantra: Offense wins games but defense wins championships?

(4)  Kiekko-Espoo Esports – Dynastia  (5)

Will it be one of the tightest series in this year's first round? Kiekko-Espoo Esports find themselves on rank 4 while recording 18 wins and being one point ahead of VISU Gaming. After falling short of a playoff qualification in ECL 11 by only 2 points, the Finnish outfit around captain @Hazard-laser is set to take the next step in the postseason. After bringing in @Frilander to strengthen the defensive force beside @Raikkoneeh, Kiekko-Espoo seemed to have found their starting six that we can also expect to play in this series. Dynastia fought their way through the Pro Qualification tournament right into their first postseason appearance on Pro level. Right from the start, Dynastia was able to collect points. The only team the freshly promoted side was not able to get points from was Hotbox who eventually finished one rank behind them in their group. Captain @Majuri20 (Diktaattori62) and winger @Vilze (Vilze92) are leading their team in points. Strong performances will be needed to beat Kiekko-Espoo in the first round.

With 64 goals in 30 games, Kiekko-Espoo is the weakest offensive team of the top 8 in Group 1. On the other hand they record a strong defense by conceding only 1,93 goals per game. With their starting goalie @jg697000(Gresu__) reportedly being absent in the first round it will be interesting to see if backup @sMiika will be able to follow in his footsteps and carry the team to the second round. While Dynastia is one of three teams who managed to secure a spot for the playoffs with a negative goal difference it will be exciting to see how the offensive and defensive abilities of both teams will develop in this series. If Kiekko-Espoo maintains their calmness, they should be able to make use of their efficiency. @Timez(Timoccio), @Mikka and Hazard-laser played all 30 regular season games and scored many powerplay goals which could give them the edge over Dynastia.

(1)  Conquer Gaming - Bjorkloven Esport  (8)

Bjorkloven ended up staying above the playoff line after some walkover drama made sure to keep Sinister below them, but it does not in any way mean that they would not be worthy of playoff hockey. That being said though, the tight knit Conquer Gaming is the strong favorite here after steadily plowing through a Group 2 where it felt like almost every single team got into either losing or winning streaks of eight plus games. A testament to their consistency, Conquer had the best goal differential in the whole Pro division by a wide margin: a whopping +49 compared to the next-best +34 of Sulkavan Sudet and Djurgarden Hockey. Their leading offensive force centerman @Jertsicc was on fire too, finishing with a division leading 26+46=72 points in 28 games. At the other end, netminder @Jeresti (28 GP, 82.94%, 1.54 GAA, 2 SO) finished with the best save percentage amongst goalies who played the majority of games.

While Conquer ended up as the second best in both most goals scored and the fewest conceded, Bjorkloven did not really shine in any stat category. Bjorkloven’s roster also had more variation, with seven skaters seeing playing time and only @Janzuh and @vVoDee featuring in every game, meanwhile Conquer played the whole regular season with the same starting six. Conquer should be able to keep their train back to Elite steadily on the tracks, but the ECL 11 Lite champions could cause the well oiled machine some problems by starting on the right foot from the get go, with the help of their high level names like @EDHOLMINHO and Janzuh stepping up and carrying them through. Out of all playoff teams they were the most penalized one in the regular season, so they will need to stay out of the box too if they want to have a chance to cause an upset.

(2)  Sulkavan Sudet - Team LEISURE  (7)

Another tight-knit former Elite roster, Team LEISURE have not had an amazing fairytale campaign back to the top this far this season. They struggled in the beginning to find their footing in the tighter Group 1, falling to a nine game losing streak after winning their three first, but have seemed to finally find it with 10 wins in their last 12, many of them with wide margins. Compared to the German outfit’s lackluster start resulting in them barely making the playoffs, Sulkavan Sudet on the other hand have been a positive surprise by managing to snatch the #2 seed from Group 2. The division’s top scoring squad (98 goals for) ended their regular season on a high note too, with winning streaks of four and eight games in their last 14. Their last opponents consisted of mainly the group’s bottom teams though, meanwhile Team LEISURE’s schedule had a bit of a wider mix of both bottom and playoff bubble opponents.

This could be one of the more interesting matchups in the first round, with Sulkavan Sudet always having been an offensive minded, strong counter attacking squad that now are facing the highly experienced Team LEISURE, who have traditionally been known for their strong defense and team play. That is not to say that they cannot score though, as they ended up scoring the second most goals in Group 1, with their tally of 88 falling just one shy of the well known offensive dynamo BoxinElite’s 89. They got a lot of help on that front from their back end, with @Franky__2768 (6+28=34) and @xXPsykoSkillsXx (5+29=34) finishing as the number one and two in points among all defensemen in the division.

Now that the Germans seem to have finally found their stride, I do not see many reasons why they would not be able to upset the much higher seeded Sudet. LEISURE’s playing style seems like it will match well against them as long as they keep an eye out for the Finns’ counter attacks. They have only made a six-game playoff appearance during their two prior Pro seasons, meanwhile Team LEISURE has always been a playoff performer and got some more experience from tighter games in the lower scoring Group 1. Even though Sulkavan Sudet racked up the most goals in Pro, they also let in a lot and that is why in my eyes Team Leisure have the advantage despite their low seed.

(3)  Patience - Blackdawgs  (6)

At around the midseason mark, Patience had some kind of internal falling out with their clear starter and only listed goalie, @PCJP(Pelkoneen), and he has not played a game for them since. After that the post between the pipes has been shared by ECL rookie @SirRaittinen and ECL 1 original @Miska (Zundeh), who has a few seasons worth of games under his belt at that position. The former seems to have been performing better though and looks slated to be the starting netminder come playoff time, with the latter most likely taking the center spot and @Karkkyjaa moving to SirRaittinen’s prior LW spot. Patience’s results have taken a bit of a dip after the goaltending change, but we will see if the uncertainty is now behind as they get ready to take on Blackdawgs.

As expected prior to the season, the mostly Russian outfit was led by the clear internal top scorer @Valluxet with 27+26=53, 15 more points than their next best @Tiltsson. Other than that, they did not cause major feelings in any way, ending up with streaky results both ways. Every time they lost a game after a win, they also lost at least the next one. As in, all of their losses were part of at least a two game losing streak. The same kind of trend can be observed with their wins too, with only one of them being neither followed or preceded by another one. Expect this series to be a tight battle that can be won by either team that ends up having the hot streak during next week. Can Patience smother the guy on whose shoulders the Blackdawgs' offense lies on, or can Valluxet execute his scoring prowess and take advantage of the opponent’s goaltender situation?

(4)  Pata Hellalla - VISU Gaming  (5)

Last but definitely not least, Pata Hellalla and VISU Gaming are going to be facing off against each other. VISU looked very strong to start the season with only two losses in their first 16 games, but then something happened and what at the time looked like an easy ride to the top seed changed to a nine game losing streak. They managed to somewhat gather their form back when it started to look like they could even fall out of the playoffs, dropping only three points in their last five with a record of 3-1-1. In their second last regular season game, the former ECL 11 Lite runner ups got a huge confidence boost from a 6-2 win over BoxinElite that also kept the fellow Pro rookies from overtaking HV71 as the Group 1 number one seed.

Similarly to VISU Gaming, Pata Hellalla had a very strong start too with 11 wins in a row, and after a one goal loss to Inter Iceland they once again got three wins in a row. After that though, in the remaining 13 games they only managed to gain a total of three wins, two of which in overtime, and one overtime loss along with seven of them in regulation, on top of the two walkover losses handed to them against Patience over their last matchup. This series is a battle of two teams with plenty of experienced players, which is once again going to be decided through who has the best form coming into the matchup. Although both outfits started out looking like their respective groups’ number one squads, VISU seems to have the slightly better form right now, giving them the edge over Pata Hellalla. Even then, this series is a toss up and could really go either way so do not be surprised about how it ends, unless it is a clear 4-0 sweep for either one.

We're happy to admit our shortcomings and with that it's great to see several upsets in the first round of ECL 12 Lite Playoffs. On the other hand, three of the top seeded teams are still in the race. In this preview, brief speculation on each of the fixtures lies ahead.

(1)  Reality Check HC vs BIK Karlskoga Esport  (29)

The #1 seed facing the bottom seed is always an interesting setup. Underdog BIK Karlskoga Esport had their day in round 1. Will history be able to repeat itself in round 2 as they are now definitely facing their toughest challenge yet? Reality Check HC quite comfortably won 4-1 in Round 1 even though Grilli Tulille gave good opposition in that series for example winning once and in the other games keeping it close. The black and yellow are in a good form and hard it's to imagine lightning strikes twice in the same place for Karlskoga. BIK Karlskoga Esports were underdogs against Royal HT but won that series and this can have an impact in this series against Reality Check HC by boosting their confidence.

(2)  noRex Gaming vs United Front  (28)

This is also the case of a heavy favorite facing a true underdog. Similarly to before, it is tough to imagine United Front being able to cause another consecutive upset. In my opinion, however, United Front has better chances to repeat the surprise when compared to Karlskoga because they are on paper a slightly stronger team with a more playoff-friendly style of play. noRex Gaming lost one game to The Last Line but in general took home the series win in convincing fashion. United Front eventually beat Barys eSports in a tough game 7 series.

(3)  GIFU Hockey vs Hokurit  (27)

GIFU Hockey advanced quite easily from Round 1 and their matchup against VANHAT KYLJYKSET. This time it most likely won't be that easy. Hokurit is in great form and are coming off of a tough seven game series against UNI Gaming which has surely put them in that winning mentality. This could be the chance that is there for the taking for Hokurit, if they keep their strong play going, this could be a legendary run.

Prediction: Hokurit wins 4-1

(9)  Powerhouse HC vs Almost Retired  (26)

Powerhouse HC in, as their name suggests, powerful form and with that one of the serious contenders for winning the Lite title this season. Powerhouse HC defeated experienced Tic Tac Toes in a very tight, low scoring series 4-2. Almost Retired pushed through against all odds by beating IK Oskarshamn in a tough series as an underdog. The question is: did their fuel run out in that series or could there still be some left in the tank? Powerhouse HC might be too tough of an obstacle in this series.

(11)  Lulea Hockey vs Baby Goons  (25)

Baby Goons' good form from the regular seasons continues and a fierce battle in this series is to be expected. Lulea Hockey had a huge and tough series but won it in a game 7 against Hyperion. Baby Goons also won their series against TuTo Esports in Game 7 so both squads are now in playoff mode for sure. Baby Goons are most likely at their peak in terms of confidence. Their glory is likely to continue in this series but it won't be easy getting past Lulea Hockey. 

Prediction: Baby Goons wins 4-3
 

(12)  Spirit vs Södertälje SK  (23) 

Spirit won Ducktales BK 4-1. Notable in that series was that all games went to OT which is quite extraordinary. Södertälje BK had two OT's in their seven game series against Central Hockey Canucks. Both have experience in tough and tight battles, but spirit should be the ones advancing.

Prediction: Spirit wins 4-1
 

(13)  Unwanted vs EHC Biel Bienne eSports  (18)

EHC Biel Bienne Esports have been in good form this season so far and have continued that run into the playoffs by beating AiKnown in a tight round 1 series. Unwanted extended into a seven game series against RoKi Esports and managed to advance. They are a mentally strong team that also possesses tremendous amounts of skill, but EHC Biel Bienne eSports are great in the underdog position, and their form will not stop yet.

(14)  Project X vs AfroDunk  (16)

Along with Powerhouse HC, Project X is one of the black horses to grab the title in my books and now they're continuing their road to glory. AfroDunk is a good team that beat TTK with relative ease in the first round, however they lack the toolset to overcome a team as strong as Project X.

Prediction: Project X wins 4-2

Players to watch

In the players to watch-section we'll take a look at players that had a great contribution to their teams already in the regular season and further continued their form in the first round of playoffs. One of the most notable stars so far in the playoffs have been Project X goaltender @Easygame20(Torvelajr_) with a SV% above 90% and a very low GAA to go with that. Two EHC Biel Bienne Esports players @KG12PK88and @Red09Dragon08 have made remarkable contributions to their team in the playoffs. Both are among the top 10 in scoring stats for their position.

The finish line is in sight! With only a third left to go of the season, now is the time for a final push. It is still mathematically possible for every team to either make or fall out of the playoffs, but naturally the likelihood of those events are up for debate. 

FILADELPHIA continues strong as the sole team to stay undefeated in regular time this season. The black and orange suffered their only loss so far at the start of last week in a big matchup against hREDS in their ECL 11 Elite finals rematch. This season, the team is looking better than ever defensively, while maintaining a high offensive production - proven by their very low GA/GP at only 1.06, simultaneously averaging 4 goals a game into the opposing net. It seems like FILA is a lock for the #1 seed into the postseason with their toughest matchups already out of the way, HAVU Gaming and hREDS have the chance to challenge but a favorable outcome for them would require some lackluster effort on FILADELPHIA's part.

Just behind the top 3, things are wide open and somewhat surprisingly recently promoted GOONS have managed to keep up their good performances. The newcomers lead by the likes of Kristian @kriketski17 Veijola and Mika @FinKonna Paasikontu currently sit in 4th place with a few games in hand on Farjestad BK, who also seem intent on clinching yet another playoff spot, their third consecutive in fact. The Swedes suffered two stinging losses at the hands of YMCA Esports early last week, but managed to come back convincingly by destroying KOVA Esports in a scoring explosion, netting current goal scoring leader Andreas @affelj96 Ljungberg a total of eight goals in those two games.

The battle for those few playoff spots around the playoff line is also raging hard, and as usual it'll come down right to the finish line. Most prominently, we've got POGGERS, SAWO ESPORTS and YMCA Esports currently in playoff position, but Vesa Pompa, IQUE and Northern Ascendancy have all but given up. JYP Jyvaskyla are also looking to salvage their season after a terrible start despite being previewed as a surefire playoff squad. Players going under the radar that have been crucial for their teams are definitely Mikko @EABUNKA Kärkkäinen for SAWO and Jan-Mikael @Janski (Jansku23) Aittoniemi for POGGERS - these guys sit at 25 and 23 goals respectively, amounting to nearly 50% of their teams production.

In the scoring race, hREDS experienced centerman Perttu @Beniittto Kemppainen is topping the tables, followed closely by recent GWC EU Champion Erik @Eki Tammenpää and it looks like the fight for that #1 spot is going to go right down to the wire between these two.

After yet another strong week, Johan @Lehmannens Lehmann has further solidified his position as leading scorer among defensemen. The 26-year old right defenseman notched six points in four games and is just ahead of Joel @jtorro-_- Tourunen and Aleksi @loimmu Loimuvirta. 

When it comes to goaltending, Casper @ICappeI Lundgren reigns supreme! The FILADELPHIA netminder is at 17 wins for the season, a GAA of 1.06, a second-to-none save percentage and two goals! What!?

Transfers
It's a somewhat rare occasion to see some movement at the Elite level after the start of the season, but some transfers have come to knowledge in the past week or so, we'll also be recapping possible movement in these reports. Here are the transfers that have come to light since last week:

Despite not getting to make a single appearance in black and orange on ECL ice, the netminder spent a significant chunk of time learning from the best in FILADELPHIA. Now he is returning home to dear Vesa Pompa, who have struggled this season. The Swedes have an already strong netminder in Erik @MrAllsvenskan Rotsenius from before, so it'll be exciting to see if the two are to share duties or if Vesa Pompa has something else in mind. Thunborg already made his debut quite surprisingly on the RD spot in absence of other options - netting his career first ECL Elite goal against hREDS in a 3-2 defeat.

The Russian virtual hockey scene has grown tremendously over the past few years and with that, the eighth iteration of the RCL now hosted two divisions for teams of various skill levels. The influx of organizations and traditional hockey teams into the scene has also helped growing the game, which we're pleased to see. The eighth RCL season was incredible in itself, and ended in a third consecutive RCL title for METALLURG MAGNITOGORSK, who won their former championships under the NOVA-banner.

Some impressive records were also set along the way to the championship by this skilled roster, and all of the eleven roster players made contributions towards their accomplishment. Especially throughout the playoffs, the MAGNITOGORSK seemed unstoppable from time to time - Goaltender Aleksey "zZzvezZzda" Zvezdin was one of the most crucial parts in the team as he kept his net clean for a streak of 306 minutes and 25 seconds, the longest streak in RCL Playoff history. Also as a result of stellar goaltending and excellent team defense, METALLURG allowed only one goal in four games throughout their final series against Barys eSports. Together with Barys, the two also set the record for the longest game in RCL history - a fifth overtime game extending to 157 minutes and 27 seconds, coming to an end only when left defenseman Alex @SPB_AlexZver_22 Zverev found the net to seal the deal and win his team the championship.

The assistant captain also commented on his teams efforts as follows:
"We worked hard to take the RCL PRO title for the third time in a row. This season, many wrote us off due to the fact that there were some rebuilding in the team, but we've proven before that it is definitely not the names on the back that decide, but team play is what wins the titles. We had a great final, conceding only one goal in the entire series, the whole team played a brilliant defense. Of course it was also nice to finish with a victory in 4 matches of the 5th overtime. I am proud of my guys, I hope this is not our last RCL title - we will work hard to come back and repeat this next season!"

(1)  STARGAZING vs Mora IK esport  (41) 

After a couple of pretty easy series wins, STARGAZING is going up against Mora IK in their biggest challenge yet. The games that we have seen from MORA IK in the past two series have been entertaining and interesting to see, but now they have an opponent with increasingly talented guys. I'm not sure if Mora is capable of stopping STARGAZING, But they can't be ruled out of the game. 

If Mora IK’s goalie @Tacterz will continue his playoff run like in the first two series, he will be the main player who gives the Swedes a chance for some W’s. Although, even if Tacterz would be amazing in net, he will need the support of the entire team to push them past the opponents.

(2)  Stone Age vs hc marko  (37) 

The situation in this series is rather similar to the one in STARGAZING vs Mora. Stone Age will be the favorite to go through, but hc marko has a pretty solid defense and that helps to stop the offensive power that Stone Age possesses. The main factor in this series is how marko adapts to Stone Ages playing style. Marko also needs some diversity in their game, to keep Stone age guessing and on their toes.  

Prediction: 4-2 STONE AGE 
 

(3)  Pasilan SKA vs Virtuoso  (30) 

Pasila and Virtuoso have faced each other at the regular season stage this ECL. SKA took the points and won the games 4-2 and 4-5 OT. This series is the first series of the round 3 that could go either way.  Statistically SKA is way better of putting the puck in the net (5.12 GF/GP in regular season), but playoff hockey is different beast. This matchup is potentially a series where we will see a game 7.

This series is interesting. Tadpole is the team that i have followed the most throughout the season. Their playstyle, in my opinion,  is so suitable for beating Niitti Pohjassa, that my prediction goes for Tadpole. @Janne Hietala (Hiatala_) and @Zoueli both have accumulated 37 points in the playoffs already, putting themselves in the 4th and 5th place in the player statistics. This team is the first team in round 3 which gets the away series win.

(7)  Lemmenvelhot vs Team Rocket  (25) 

In this series i would have to bet the team who has goalie who can make saves. The goalie for Team Rocket @Tlindgren96(HelloImDonga) has played well in the net so far. This guy had a 1.5GAA in the regular season and also after two rounds of playoffs. In comparison, the Lemmenvelhot goalie @Tptk00 has been letting the puck behind his back about 3 times per game.  

Prediction: 0-4 Team Rocket 
 

(8)  Arkham Asylum vs Bonus Ambers  (22) 

Arkham was the number 1 seed in their group 8. This Team has a really balanced mix of skaters with a good goalie - a dangerous team if you look from the opponents perspective. @TheSpeedo has a defensively strong team in front of him, he is facing only about 7 shots per game. Although the team is good on defense, their opponent BonusAmbers has scored 41 goals in the 8 last games so it is interesting to see who will go to the quarterfinals. 

Prediction: 4-3 Arkham Asylum 
 

(9)  Tohtorit vs Jokers Hockey  (17) 

Tohtorit have that "wow-factor" as a team. I have to say I was impressed with this team when I looked at the stats in the regular season. @Ojala16 and @Linkku60 both scoring over 100 points is a great accomplishment in itself. However, as stated, playoff hockey is a different story. I would say that in this series, Jokers Hockey will need to step up defensively and goaltending-wise, because there will be sweaty times in the defensive end for @eKvaarn and the boys!

In this matchup, we'll see two squads who both finished second in their respective groups going up against each other. Its a nice city at 10th seed have had some close calls in their past playoff rounds, barely squeezing by EHC TATNEFT AK BARS in a game seven in the first round, but they will be eager to show what they can do with the lead of top scorer @Toimitusjohtaja3 against Resurrection. On the other hand, Resurrection have passed the previous two rounds with relative ease and are now facing their first real big challenge. The team is heavily reliant on the puck skills of @tkantola and @Xkeineri up front, and if this duo provides, they'll go through to the next round.

We are boiling down to the finish line in our Neo division and this week will feature some extremely exciting games with four of the best teams in the division going up against each other. We can surely expect high-scoring battles at times with all the skill on show in these clashes, but in the end, we'll have two squads coming out as winners and these will be going at it one last time in the Finals on 4th of July.

The ECL 12 Lite regular season has finished and we are ready for the playoffs. It is time to speculate briefly on the fixtures and predict the outcome of those exciting series. There are many very even matchups ahead and some with a bit more of favorites but like we have seen in previous ECL seasons, the playoffs are full of surprises and there are many competitive teams so anything can truly happen.

Note: At the time of writing this GIFU Hockey vs VANHAT KYLJYKSET series has already begun so it is left out in this preview for that reason.

(1)  Reality Check HC vs Grilli Tulille  (32)

Number one seed with lots to prove Reality Check HC faces the very multi-talented team Grilli Tulille, consisting of several players merited on the virtual football pitch. Grilli Tulille had a very tight situation to even reach the playoffs with both Thunder United and them being tied in all tie-breakers. The two completed a best-of-three series, ending in Grili Tulille claiming the last Playoff spot.

In this game, we've got the top seeded team versus the bottom seeded team. Reality Check HC had a huge regular season as expected and Grilli Tulille barely managed to squeak into the playoffs by the narrowest possible margin. Grilli Tulille is already accustomed to playoff style hockey, but they are unlikely to beat a team as talented as Reality Check.

Prediction: Reality Check  HC wins 4-2.
 

(2)  noRex Gaming vs The Last Line  (31)

Two teams from the same group in the regular season will face off. noRex Gaming won both regular season games. Both squads are in good form to start the playoffs - The Last Line beat Powerhouse HC in the last game and had an impressive 6-3-1 record in their last 10 games, whereas noRex finished their regular season campaign with a 7-1-2 record in their last 10. Quite an interesting point is that The Last Line beat Powerhouse HC in the last game and noRex Gaming lost to the same team in their last game. Despite that, noRex Gaming is without a doubt the favorite in this clash.

Prediction: noRex Gaming wins 4-2

(3)  GIFU Hockey vs VANHAT KYLJYKSET  (30)

This series has already started and is even at 1-1.

(4) Royal HT vs BIK Karlskoga Esport  (29)

Both teams were in same group. Royal HT won the group and BIK Karlskoga Esport barely reached the playoffs. Royal HT won both their games between each other quite comfortably so there is a clear favorite in this series. BIK Karlskoga Esports needs all going exactly as planned and lots of luck to advance from this series as their opposition has already proven their skill against their system in the groupstage. Goaltending must be on top and BIK would need to convert on any chance they get, although unlikely, anything could theoretically happen.

Prediction: Royal HT wins 4-0
 

(5)  Barys eSports vs United Front  (28)

Barys eSports have been quite impressive in their debut season in the ECL. They finished second after noRex Gaming in their group and with that reached a favorable position in the postseason. United Front finished 7th in their group after a decent regular season. They had quite the roller-coaster form throughout but overcame teams like FILADELPHIA Academy and in the last matches played rather tight games against group winners GIFU Hockey. Barys eSports seems to be a slight favorite but this series is likely to be tighter than you might expect. 

Prediction: Barys eSports wins 4-2
 

(6)  UNI Gaming vs Hokurit  (27)

UNI Gaming finished 2nd in their group and Hokurit 7th respectively. Hokurit had a fluctuating regular season but beat teams like Powerhouse HC so they have the caliber to challenge UNI Gaming for sure. On the other hand, UNI Gaming has been strong throughout and possess quality and experience from Pro last season, they also beat their group winner GIFU Hockey an both occasions in the regular season, which is a show of strength. UNI Gaming is the favorite but Hokurit is capable of challenging well in this series.

Prediction: Hokurit wins 4-2
 

(7)  IK Oskarshamn vs Almost Retired  (26)

Two teams that were in the same group. Both games between these teams went the way of IK Oskarshamn, but one of them did take overtime. IK Oskarshamn is a favorite no doubt. We could restate the same mantra as in many other series, we've got a heavy favorite going up against an underdog that needs all the hockey gods on their side in order to overcome the big obstacle and move on.

Prediction: IK Oskarshamn wins 4-0
 

(8)  TuTo Esports vs Baby Goons  (25)

Again we've got two Finnish squads who already clashed in the groupstage. TuTo won both tight games, out of which one extended to OT. This series is likely to be tight even though TuTo finished second and Baby Goons 7th in the group. Baby Goons have underachieved and could fulfil their potential come playoffs.

Prediction: TuTo Esports wins 4-2
 

(9)  Powerhouse HC vs Tic Tac Toes  (24)

Both of these squads were in the same group and if we looked at it ahead of the season, the seeds should perhaps be inverted. Powerhouse came through this season, though and won both games between the two with two goal margins. Tic Tac Toes is a team with tremendous talent and has challenged the likes of noRex Gaming very well. 

Prediction: Powerhouse HC wins 4-3
 

(10)  Central Hockey Canucks vs Södertälje SK  (23) 

Central Hockey Canucks has put forth impressive efforts against top teams like Project X and GIFU Hockey throughout the season. Södertälje SK has also in their own group had some good games against top teams like IK Oskarshamn. Therefore, there isn't any major favorite in this series and it could eventually swing either way.

Prediction: Central Hockey Canucks wins 4-2
 

(11)  Lulea Hockey vs Hyperion  (22)

Lulea Hockey did pretty well in their group, which included some high seeded teams like IK Oskarshamn and Reality Check HC. They played tight games against both, winning once in each matchup. Hyperion finished 6th in a tough group as well, beating teams like GIFU Hockey and Project X both once along their way. Hyperion has potential although Lulea is a favorite in this series.

Prediction: Lulea Hockey wins 4-1
 

(12)  Spirit vs Ducktales BK  (21)

Spirit ended their regular season in good form: 10 games and 8 wins (1 OT win) and 2 losses (one in OT), which pushed them into 3rd place in their group. Ducktales BK also had similar form at the end of the regular season (8 wins/3 OT and 2 losses/1 OT). Both were in the same group and played two even games against each other. Spirit won both times but with narrow goal margins on both occasions. We're expecting a tight series with lots of drama, especially as both clubs come into the clash in good form.

Prediction: Ducktales BK wins 4-3

(13)  Unwanted vs RoKi Esports  (20)

Unwanted finished 4th and RoKi Esports 5th in the same group. The two played each other just before the end of the regular season and shared wins, but Unwanted walked away with a point more through an OT loss. RoKi Esports had a disappointing last season so they have a lot to play for. Game 7 is most likely a very good guess in this series.

(14)  Project X vs FILADELPHIA Academy  (19)

These teams were in positions 4th and 5th in the same group. Project X won both their tight regular season games so FILADELPHIA Academy has it out for them in the form of revenge on their minds. FILADELPHIA Academy has the reputation and integrity of their mother club to play for alone, but also has the backing of FILA-fans alike behind them going into this bout. A lot of pressure for success in Lite this season. We're in for an exciting and tight series with potential to extend into a game 7.

(15)  AiKnown vs EHC Biel Bienne eSports  (18)

These teams finished 4th and 5th in their groups respectively. AiKnown has the skill and experience in their roster and has showcased it by beating a strong squad like Royal HT which is an achievement in itself. HC Biel Bienne eSports beat IK Oskarshamn 4-2 and lost only in OT so you could say they've done exactly the same on their own part.

(16)  AfroDunk vs TTK  (17)

TTK started the regular season in their group with 7 consecutive wins, but later on their form has cooled off a bit. There is potential for the better, however. AfroDunk challenged teams like Reality Check and IK Oskarshamn in their group and won once each without conceding a goal and just before playoffs. AfroDunk finished 4th in their group and TTK 5th. Expecting a 7 game series.

Prediction: AfroDunk wins 4-3

Players to watch

As usual, Lite has showcased some exceptional skill this season and with that, here are just few players to follow in the playoffs. Grilli Tulille is an exceptional team due to their multi-game talent and their goaltender has also done well against tough opponent - if the mechanical skill isn't there, the mental strength definitely should be.

It'll be exciting to see new names rise to stardom in the crucial moments of these series. Here we are trying to highlight top players for their teams that are expected to shine in these big games of the season too. 

some defensemen have also been highlighted, and for these guys the +/- stat is something that was looked at besides point production. The +/- is a decent measure of individual defensive skill but even more than that, team defensive skill. A high production paired with a good +/- is a sign of a winning team.

We're now midway through the ECL 12 Elite season, which means that some teams have by now been able to solidify their spot - be it for good or for bad - in the standings, whereas others might have fluctuated a bit more. One thing that is certain is that now, if ever, would be a great time to turn on the jets for the home stretch of the season.

Surpassing the midway point of the season marks for an exciting time, as it is just about the last chances for any team to attempt turning things around for their season. We've got the usual suspects HAVU Gaming and FILADELPHIA up top. Although HAVU has four games in hand already, there should be no reason for them dropping too much below 3rd place at the furthest if they are able to keep things up. For FILADELPHIA, there's some clouds on the horizon with the potential absence of centerman Joonas @Patzlaf Paatiala for some games in the near future, but with solid backup goaltending by Edvin @Thunborg5 Thunborg and the offensive skillset of Casper @ICappeI Lundgren on the wing, the team should be able to remain competitive, should they schedule any games in Patzlafs absence.

One of the most surprising outcomes around the league this past week was KOVA Esports clinching two victories against contender hREDS by winning 3-2 in regulation and 2-1 in OT, thus leaving hREDS with only one point from a matchup they should have had in the bag. It was in fact an all around very solid week for KOVA, led by clutch efforts and big goals mainly from right winger Jere @Jerax13 Hällström and a string of excellent performances by goaltender Axel @MonkeyHeadAF Falck.

While the middle of the pack is very even and we have around eleven teams in total still fighting for remaining playoff spots, it is looking grim for a few clubs. Newcomers ZSC Esports and Tunnel Vision have fallen into bad runs and haven't been able to convert tight games into points for at a favorable rate. With that, the Swiss are currently sitting at 14th, while the Finnish outfit is dead last, tied in points with Rusty Blades, but at a disadvantage due to tiebreakers. The biggest issue for the teams at the bottom has been an inability to defend as a team at a high enough level combined with some immense struggle scoring. Especially Tunnel Vision is in a pickle, converting at a rate of only 1,29 goals for per game.

When it comes to the individual scoring side of things, hREDS have stepped things up despite their stinging losses against KOVA this past week. Perttu @Beniittto Kemppainen and Niklas @NikkeDangles Tukiainen have secured a double lead for the big, bad reds just ahead of FILADELPHIA's Erik @Eki Tammenpää and Paul @PleeMaker Arontie. As for netting goals, the Swedish sniper Andreas @affelj96 Ljungberg continues to impress with 23 notches to his name so far and is en route to a career high, should he keep up the pace. FBK only played two games last week, but the left winger managed to cash in on five goals against Tunnel Vision.

Seems to be a weekly theme to highlight Johan @Lehmannens Lehmann in these reports too, but the fact is that despite playing only two games this past week, the FBK defenseman is still topping the points department for defensemen throughout the league. However, Joel @jtorro-_- Tourunen from HAVU Gaming is creeping up on him by collecting FIVE goals and seven points in four games throughout the week. With that performance in the books, jtorro now also leads the goal scoring table for defensemen.

As far as goaltending goes, @ICappeI is still performing at the very highest level together with several of his Swedish colleagues, Filip @Faze91- Azri and Johan @McSavid Rundqvist in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. The very experienced Mika @FinKonna Paasikontu for success story GOONS breaks up the Swedish dominance with his 9 wins, putting him at 4th place. Erik @MrAllsvenskan Rotsenius and Ben @benu Rinnet stand out from the pack with exceptionally high saving percentages due to a higher amount of shots faced compared to their peers.

The first half of the regular season in ECL 12 Pro is done and with that it is a good time to take a closer look at what happened in the first weeks of virtual hockey action. Which teams are performing well? Which players are making the difference and who are the new kids on the block? Only a few points will make the difference and things begin to heat up in the race for the playoffs as well as in the battle of escaping relegation. We can look forward to an exciting race to the finish line in the 12th season of the second highest tier in the European Championship League.

Djurgarden Hockey and VISU Gaming are leading Group 1 with 31 points each while the freshly promoted group of former Exerceo still has two games in hand on the yellow, red and blue. The Swedish side built around captain @Jungledonk seem keen on repeating their strong performances from last season when they finished at a solid rank 2 behind the eventual Pro-finalists GOONS in the group stage. With 47 points in 22 games, @Strumpan87 is Group 1's top scorer and underlines the offensive standards of Djurgarden. Goalie @Sorsa103 already has 5 shutouts and is performing on a high level to strengthen their defense. VISU Gaming's @Sagee95 is on his way to become one of this seasons most dangerous forwards and already contributed to 21 goals and 23 assists to help his team gain a good spot in the playoffs. Especially his performance in the 7-2 win over RCTIC, where he scored 7 points, stresses his offensive abilities. Both teams look very strong and on the road to home ice advantage in the postseason if they are able to continue in their winning ways. With only 16 games played so far, BoxinElite is one of the special teams to keep an eye out for in the second half of the regular season. Scoring more than 3 goals per game and and rocking an outstanding record of 12-4-0, the Finnish side is trying to gain one of the top spots in group 1. If they manage to set up yet another winning streak and maintain their focus, BoxinElite can surely secure home ice advantage in the playoffs.

Right behind we find yet another two Swedish squads: HV71 and ECL 11 Lite Champions Bjorkloven Esport are on their way to playoff qualification. Led by their captain @Demski13, the esports team of the 5-time SHL champion HV71 has seemed to take their next step in their development after missing the playoffs by only three points in ECL 11. Bjorkloven's captain @Kallmanius made the right decisions and brought in @rakkauspakkaus- from Ringette HC as well as ECL Season 1 veteran @Janzuh. After starting their Pro campaign with 8 wins in their first 10 games, Bjorkloven Esport immediately made an impact in the league and showed that they can compete on that higher level. Both Swedish squads need to continue gaining as much points as possible, especially with Kiekko-Espoo Esports and Blackdawgs breathing down their necks. The Finnish and Russian warhorses started rather well and are on a decent run with room to improve still. Blackdawgs' @Valluxet is performing at a high level once again, contributing with 20 goals and 15 assists and is one of the main reasons for the success of his team. It will be interesting to see which sides are able to repeat their strong first half in ECL 12 Pro and manage to gain a spot in the playoffs.

In the middle of the pack we find Sinister, Hawaii Hockey, Golden Nights and Rögle BK. All four teams are quite new to the league after managing to gain promotion following ECL 11 Lite or find their way in through the Pro Qualifiers. While Sinister and Hawaii Hockey both started with a negative record, they seem to have acclimated themselves to the Pro level and were able to start winning streaks and find themselves in a tight battle for a playoff spot as we speak. @Kumbik was one of Bjorkloven's top scorers last season before changing colors and joining Hawaii Hockey in the Pro Wildcard Battle. The Czech forward and his center @theMaddias crucial pieces in the offense of their team and are surely some of the most exciting players to watch on the last stretch of the regular season. Will they be able to lead Hawaii Hockey into the postseason? A bit surprisingly, we find Herlev Eagles in 10th place in the standings of group 1. The Eagles who finished on a solid third place last season have failed to live up to their expectations. Especially with Danish superstar @vibholm10, who found himself among the leagues top scorers the past few seasons. Starting with five losses in a row, Herlev is still lacking in offensive efficiency. In the last eight games the team around captain @oSandello needs to turn course in order to keep their dream of making the playoffs alive.

At the bottom of the table we find freshly promoted Russian team Nearbird Fighters, who have only managed to win two out of 16 games so far. Just ahead of them, Finnish outfit RCTIC find themselves in 15th place and are currently suffering from a six game losing streak against Rogle BK, Herlev Eagles and VISU Gaming respectively. @Janikka's Finnish Roosters continue to lag behind compared to last seasons performances also. After a negative start, the Roosters got back on track with five wins in their last six games. A qualification for the playoffs seems to be very unlikely but after splitting points with the very strong HV71 and Bjorkloven Esport, the Finnish side can be optimistic to avoid relegation if they continue to play like their most recent games. Another surprising face in the bottom of group 1 is the 5-time GCL Champion Team LEISURE. After getting beaten by Tunnel Vision in six games in the Elite relegation, the former Deadly Phantoms HC were keen on proving themselves and paving their way back into Elite, but after starting with three wins including two shutouts on the first matchday, LEISURE's ambitions turned around. Nine losses in a row followed by three matchdays with split points are not what they want to see in terms of results. Defender @xXPsykoSkillsXx finds himself among the best defensemen of the league while the offense is lacking in efficiency - LEISURE needs to find a way to decide tight matchups in their favour to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Germans have 12 matchdays left to prove everyone wrong and find themselves a spot in the Top 8 of group 1!

In the second group, Conquer Gaming seems to have separated themselves from the rest of the pack by only losing once in regulation and once in overtime, backed by a strong start from their goalie @Jeresti and the entire division’s leading scorer, centerman @Jertsicc. Pata Hellalla has also been able to immediately reach a high level, fueled by their top scoring defensemen @kungenkurwa and @JOHTAJAVIRTANEN alongside the last minute addition of current internal top scorer @apettaja. There are two teams at the middle of the table that have not broken from their tradition of relying strongly on their captains: Inter Iceland and Sulkavan Sudet, led by @PLA77NER (Hasek-39--) and @Oxdoggi respectively. Their squads have been up and down, struggling to get into consistent winning streaks but on the other hand have also avoided losing too many times in a row. A bit below them the two Swedish teams with more or less Finnish reinforcements, Sjukstugan and Lekstugan HC, have fallen to gruelling losing streaks after starting out okay. They need to quickly gain their focus back and start turning the streaks into positive ones, or else they will have to battle to retain their divisional spots instead of eyeing for the last potential playoff spots.

At the bottom end of the standings we find SPARTIATES X MCES in a somewhat similar, yet more challenging situation as the aforementioned teams ending in -stugan. The French outfit have seemed to have some trouble adjusting to the Pro level of play, only winning two of the first 13 games. Could they now be on the up though, having won their last three against top teams Pata Hellalla and Rookie Mistakes? The later mentioned squad has not had as strong of a start as maybe expected, but led by captain @Niskalaukaus and his assistant @xColeslaww (Koleslaav_) they have still managed to claw their way to pose a challenge at the top. Along with SPARTIATES X MCES towards the bottom is another team with a freshly signed esports contract, METALLURG MAGNITOGORSK. After winning four of their first seven games, the Russians have had losing streaks of five and four, with only a win in between. Any playoff hopes are probably over for the French and the Russians, leaving them to fight for their lives to at a minimum avoid instant relegation and even the qualifiers if all goes well.

Company of Geeks had quite a decent beginning but have only won one of their last nine, with only the two most recent losses coming in overtime. The young rookie @xLeikku has taken his first strides on the ECL ice quite effectively, leading the team and at one point the whole division in scoring alongside with his captain @Jesus (eJezuz). The story of the German organization PENTA has been different, starting the season with an eight game losing streak before they began to pick up steam. Despite the tough adjustment period at the new level, their current form has them right at the brink of a playoff spot with Dynastia trailing them closely behind. The Finns started the season playing a lot of games with up and down results, ending up with a 8-7-1 record after the first seven days. As they have continued on a similar path since, captain @Majuri20 (Diktaattori62) definitely needs to lead his team towards more consistent results if they want to solidify their spot in the playoffs. They have had some trouble scoring relative to the rest of the group, so that should be a big area of focus for the remainder of the season.

Despite never being a team expected to be seen in the relegation battle, the quite recently formed Patience has still managed to exceed expectations by mounting a challenge at the top of the table. Contrary to the best inexperienced newcomer teams we have grown accustomed to seeing in seasons past, it has not come with crazy offensive fireworks, but instead with the second fewest goals against per game in the group after Conquer Gaming. Their most experienced skater and former ECL 3 champion @Karkkyjaa has proved valuable, leading them in a fight for a top seed with an A on his chest. If Patience has been overachieving relative to pre-season expectations, bottom of the pack Sack Brothers have done exactly the opposite of that. Heading into their sophomore campaign after a first round exit last season, they looked like one of the group's better teams on paper with some added strength on the back end. That wasn’t necessarily reflected in their on-ice performance, with them only managing to cough up three points in the first 10 games alongside a couple of big margin losses. Perhaps they have finally started to gel together after the roster changes and are now back on their way up though, with four wins in their last six games.

Finally, there is the squad that managed to upset team after team as a lower seed in the ECL 11 Lite Playoffs: Hotbox. Their rookie season in Pro began as anticipated in the season preview, with only three points amassed in the first eight games. After the rough start their lord and saviour emerged though, in the form of forward @James (Jamechkin), who joined them from Lite’s Reality Check HC after his qualifier related roster lock ended. Before the season got underway it looked like he was slated to be acquired as a defenseman by Rookie Mistakes, but fortunately for Hotbox that did not end up happening. Things have seemed to click for Hotbox and Jamechkin from the get go, with the Finns going on an eight game winning streak as soon as the move happened and only dropping three points overall during that period. If they can keep on going with the same flow, Hotbox now looks like a lock for the playoffs.


Some of the pre-season predictions have been accurate and others have not, meanwhile some have been in the correct range but still not quite. That is the nature of the game though, and we will excitedly await to see how the rest of the season shapes up. Still a lot of points left up for grabs as the ECL 12 Pro regular season is to end on June 23rd, so fight hard and have fun doing so - see you on the ice!

The second week of ECL Elite is usually when we start seeing the trends of the season as teams get more games under their belt and start showing their current form. The season is surprisingly short and we're soon at the halfway point and some teams are desperate to pick things up, will they do so moving forward?

Trends have surely developed, and on the positive side of those, we've got HAVU Gaming, FILADELPHIA and hREDS as expected. This power trio has managed to stay on top of things through the first two weeks of action and are now all boasting a point average of 1.75 or more, which will surely put them in the top three at the end of the season should they be able to keep up their great work. On the other hand, we've also got teams like SAWO ESPORTS and POGGERS at somewhat surprisingly high positions in the standings - although with games in hand on competition. Both SAWO and POGGERS are currently sporting point averages of 1.00, which historically won't put you in the playoffs in Elite competition, but these squads still have room for improvement and could find a way to sneak their way into the top eight if they are able to steal points in big matchups. At the bottom end of the standings, it looks tough for recently promoted squads ZSC Esports, Tunnel Vision and IQUE, whereas Elite mainstays KOVA Esports and Rusty Blades are struggling even more. What seems to be a common factor for all these teams is having trouble scoring, as all of them are currently below 1.6 GF/GP, which is rarely enough at the highest level. An interesting notion is that Rusty Blades are defending very well and are 6th in the league in terms of goals allowed per game, but struggle mightily with scoring at only one notch per game, which has put them at the bottom of the pack. 

So far, FILADELPHIA is the only team on a perfect run, as they have right out dominated the league with fairly routine wins through their first ten matches. They will be going up against HAVU Gaming on Wednesday and hREDS on Thursday, two clashes that will set the tone for the rest of their season.

FILADELPHIA and hREDS have been the highest scoring teams in the league so far and naturally it is not surprising to see both Erik @Eki Tammenpää and Paul @PleeMaker Arontie continue at the top of the scoring table, followed by Perttu @Beniittto Kemppainen. In terms of goals, though we are pleased to see Andreas @affelj96 Ljungberg continue his good form for FBK, but more surprisingly POGGERS' right winger Jan-Mikael @Janski (Jansku23) Aittoniemi has went off and is at 17 goals in 14 games this season so far - that's just below half of all of the goals for that POGGERS have scored.

Last week we highlighted FBK defenseman Johan @Lehmannens Lehmann with 10 points in 6 games and somewhat questioned his ability to keep up pace, but the man has proved us wrong as he now sits at 21 points in 12 games and is truly playing a career season. Tero @Terodee Dahlström has also been great production-wise for POGGERS and Aleksi @loimmu Loimuvirta has stepped up his overall play and reached entirely new highs beside Teemu @Xteemuz (Teemuyy) Polttila for FILADELPHIA.

In terms of goaltending, we still have Swedish dominance! Casper @ICappeI Lundgren is still on top with a perfect record, followed by Filip @Faze91- Azri, Johan @McSavid Rundqvist and Elie @eliekamel87 Kamel. Outside the top five, we've got the experienced Hannes @Hansulinho Kettunen and Oskari @SibeIius Grönroos, who are sharing responsibilities for HAVU Gaming. Hansu is sporting an impressive 89.36 SV%, leading the league in that department.

It's a somewhat rare occasion to see some movement at the Elite level after the start of the season, but some transfers have come to knowledge in the past week or so, we'll also be recapping possible movement in these reports. Here are the transfers that have come to light since last week:

The experienced defenseman of former Nordic Blizzard and Dynasty fame is now back at the highest level after spending ECL 10 with RPEAT Esports in Pro and ECL 11 with Oton Letkutemppu in Lite. He has made an immediate impact for the better in the Rusty Blades team and slots in very well on that LD spot next to team captain Juhani @Tanski87 Tanskanen. Rusty Blades are despite their new signing struggling mightily with scoring and unfortunately DieCutterMC is unlikely to help them too much on that front.

IN Mikkel @Birkedal96 Birkedal (Djurgarden Hockey)
The Swiss Elite rookies have struggled making their entrance into the highest tier of competition, ableit they get the benefit of the doubt due to a somewhat challenging schedule in their first week. Now, the team has decided to recruit an offensive force, when former Djurgarden Hockey right winger @Birkedal96 joins the ranks of the Lions. He is hardly a player that creates offence on his own, but is a very intelligent team player that can slot into a system like the ZSC are playing very well. Known as a proficient scorer, Birkedal should help the rookies find the back of the net at a higher percentage if he is able to translate his skill to the higher level.

Power Rankings Provided by @MartindalexC

This season, the logic behind the power rankings have been overhauled in order to make them based on something tangible that can actually be quantified - as opposed to just, "well these guys are doing kinda bad, right?". In short, a number (or points rather) is generated for each matchup a team plays that they should attain, going above this number (by collecting more points) means that they are above average, whereas going below (failing to collect points) means that they are below average. Said positive / negative number will be reset each week and the rankings will be based solely off of that, this decision was made so that each week's rankings are truly separate, and teams are not afforded a higher position simply based on previous weeks (i.e. the rank decay is incredibly high). With that said however, each team will also have their 'season-wide' rating visible so everyone can see how precarious, or safe, each team is based on their current form. 

Furthermore, this week I have a (hopefully) final addition to the 'background' data for these rankings and as such will attach the updated week 1 rankings below* - there should not be any further changes beyond this point though! As well as this, since we are now moving into Week 2, two numbers will be assigned to each team in brackets. The first number represents their performance in the past week, whilst the second number represents how the team is doing over the entire season thus far.
